Swansea Again Target Priskin Loan
Swansea Again Target Priskin Loan
Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2011 22:03

Swansea have renewed their interest in taking Town striker Tamás Priskin on loan, according to sources in South Wales. The Swans, managed by Priskin’s former Watford boss Brendan Rodgers, targeted the 24-year-old last summer and just before Christmas.

Rodgers, who was in charge of the Hornets during Priskin’s most productive season in English football, is reported to have revealed that he is close to landing a loan striker ahead of Thursday’s 5pm deadline at a supporters' event this evening.

Town manager Paul Jewell has consistently bemoaned his side’s failings in front of goal but is unlikely to allow any of his strikers to move on until someone else comes in, with Priskin, Jason Scotland, another recent Swansea target, and Connor Wickham the only strikers currently in his squad.

Priskin failed to make much of an impact during his first season with the Blues, moving to QPR on loan in January 2010 having scored only twice in the first half of the 2009/10 campaign.

This campaign started more positively but the Hungarian international has been in and out of the side under both Jewell and Roy Keane and has still managed only seven goals, most notably the winner in the Carling Cup first leg victory over Arsenal.

Priskin, who is currently away with his national squad ahead of two games with Holland, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2012.

Earlier today Jewell said he had made enquiries regarding loan players with a striker likely to be amongst his targets.

Meanwhile, Jewell and coach Sean McCarthy were spotted watching Colchester's 1-0 victory over Oldham on Tuesday.

They can have him, in exchange for Scott Sinclair :)

Yeh, cheers for the Arsenal goal and memories. But too many times, hasn't cut the mustard. Seems to get disheartened and disinterested very very easily.

Let him go in the Summer, when we may have strikers to replace him

I reckon he gets disheartened easily because of the town supporters being generally very poor and hard to please. I'm sure anyone would get a bit disheartened if as soon as you made a mistake, all positives of your game were instantly forgotten and you got moaned at for the rest of the game.

Would much rather we kept Priskin and let Scotland go...

If we're going to get rid in the summer we might as well save the wages now. Frankly this season is a write off so save the cash. Only bring in people we're hoping to sign.

He had a spell for a while this season when i thought he was going to become real deal but he is very inconsistent. In the right team think can be a really good player just not sure will ever be a 20 goal a season man

Mr Inconsistency himself, we don't need him to be honest. I prefer Scotland to him. And I'd prefer to see a new face to either of those

this is ridiculous.. priskin, is a striker, who, if gets a good run of games, can frighten defences! why are fans on his back! not what a player needs is it?!! .. swansea, in my opinion, are a team, who should be going up this season - and brendan rogers knows that.. sinclair will be returning to chelsea, and he needs someone to fill his boots.. so this shows that he has potential! why else would a club in the premier league next season want him!

KEEP THIS GUY, HE HAS TALENT!!!!!!

Prefer him to Scotland definitely. PJ won't loan him out unless he gets a striker in himself by the deadline, if he does, good, if not I don't mind seeing him stay and would like to see a bit of experimentation, give him a game up top with wickham because it could work.

Taylor15 do you know anything? Sinclair is Swansea's player not on loan from Chelsea.

The problem is Jewell, like Keane, seem hell bent on only playing one bloody striker up front .

How the hell can a lone striker do it all on his own. Scotland cant do it, Priskin cant do it , and now we see young Connor can do it.

So how about playing TWO bloody strikers up front together ffs !!!

mmmm...let him go I think. He's had opportunities aplenty to show his true worth and quite simply he hasn't. He has never reproduced the form here that he showed at his previous club, which was what - presumably- brought him here in the first place. I don't think Connor has had long enough in the 'lone striker' role for you to be writing him off just yet, to be fair to the lad RetroBlue.

ipswich24, yeah, my bad.. but okay, answer why he would want priskin, if he is 'poor' .. if he's not ipswich standard, he surely can't be premier league standard..

KEEP PRISKIN FFS!

Reminds me of Pablo, you know he can be a star on his day, but he just goes cold for so long. We need someone who can put in a good performance every game. Not just now and then. Shame really because again like Pablo hes got the quality, just not the consistent form. I say let him and Scotland go in the summer, and look at players such as Danny Graham and Shane Long (although i shouldnt think they will be let go cheaply!).

warwick blue: I definately wasnt writing Connor off in the lone role. In fact I suspect when he's a older he will be a fantastic target man. But at just 17 yrs of age , and no experince to speak of , he is not the man for the that job right now at Town- and is IMO a little unfair to ask this of him!

Interesting comments from all considering the following:-

Priskin 9
Norris 9
McAuley 6
Peters 4
Wickham 3

NO NOT GOALS but the league table for the number of times voted MOM by TWTD participants.

It would suggest he has been one of our most consistent players this season!!!!!!

@budgieplucker, You have a valid case there, i wont argue, but the fact of the matter is Priskin doesnt score enough goals to help our challenge for promotion. He plays well at times, thats granted. Against Barnsley at home he was the best on the pitch. He just lacks goals. Its nice having a fancy player on the pitch, but sometimes it just takes someone who can make something out of nothing in the box and put away half chances. Rewind back to the prem days with Marcus Stewart, he banged in 19 goals in the 2000/2001 season. A real poacher. Im not saying a player like him in his day would be easy/cheap to find, but thats what we are lacking. I guess since the departure of Darren Bent & Shefki Kuqi a few seasons ago, weve lacked that quality up front. Weve got goals in Norris & Bullard from the midfield, we just need someone to deliver upfront, and Priskin/Scotland just aint the answer. Wickham will be massive, but at 17 its a tall order to expect him to lash 20+ goals a season. Give it time though ;)

I can understand why some people are saying get rid but I do honestly feel he's got the goods in his locker. It's just getting them out that's the problem. The unsettled dressing room/management, being up top alone and not getting a long run in the side clearly haven't helped his confidence in front of goal. If PJ gives him some heavy shooting training over the summer and a good run in pre season where he can score regularly then I know for sure we'll see a new 20 goals a season man in him. His all round play really isn't that bad. He just needs a couple of goals to turn his form and luck around.
