Town Reportedly Leading Haroun Chase Thursday, 2nd Jun 2011 14:54
Town are again being linked with Belgian international midfielder Faris Haroun, who TWTD reported was on the Blues’ radar a fortnight ago. Boss Paul Jewell is said to be leading the chase for the 25-year-old, who is currently with Belgian top flight side Germinal Beerschot.
The Antwerp-based team are looking to offload some of their higher earners this summer and a number of English sides and German clubs FC Köln and Bochum are now said to be showing interest. Zulte Waregem, also from Belgium, were previously linked with the Brussels-born player, who scored five goals in 28 matches during 2010/11.
Haroun, who also holds a Chadian passport, played youth football with RSD Jette and RWD Molenbeek but began his professional career with KRC Genk, making his senior bow in the 2003/04 season.
The 6ft 2in tall midfielder, who is reportedly keen on a move to England, joined his current club ahead of the 2008/09 season, having been a member of Belgium’s Olympic side in Beijing, where he narrowly missed out on a medal. The U23 team, which also included Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen, Manchester City's Vincent Kompany and Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, lost the third/fourth play-off to Brazil.
Haroun has been capped six times by his country at full level and has a year remaining on his Germinal Beerschot contract.
Town are known to be eyeing the Belgian market with a scout believed to have watched the recent Anderlecht-Club Brugge clash.
Elsewhere, Watford striker Danny Graham, who was linked with the Blues last month, is reportedly the subject of a £3 million offer from Swansea with QPR and West Brom previously having had £2.5 million moves for the ex-Carlisle man rebuffed.
Swansea’s apparent approach for Graham, who appears destined for the Premier League this summer, may make it even less likely that the Swans will seek to turn Tamás Priskin’s loan switch into a permanent deal.
On Tuesday, TWTD revealed that the Welsh club’s promotion swelled the Blues’ coffers to the tune of £160,000 due to a clause in the loan deal.

Just more speculation. Need to get these deals done. Are PJ/Clegg actually at the club? I seem to recall Clegg taking his holiday last year when all other clubs were returning!

If it hasn't dawned on PJ yet,it soon will;that Ipswich Town are an unfashionable mediocre mid table Championship side who havn't been near the playoffs in recent times;and whose glory days are but a distant memory. It is therefor becoming more and more difficult to attract decent players to this club especially when we have an invisble Chairman/Owner whose pockets are increasingly getting deeper whilst his arms get shorter! Then there is the Mr Clegg? In the 50 years have been following Town feel we have as weak a squad as I can remember since the days of Jackie Milburn when we had the likes of John Colrain(Hoss),Joe Davin etc;so good luck Paul you are going to need it,and please try to hang on to the two or three decent players you have left.

Seasider, get a grip, scummers done it with unknowns, and so can we. Like me you will remember back ten years or so, we had just finished the old season finishing 5th in the premiership. We started the new season looking forward to european football, we had just signed some stars, sereni, finidi george, ulrich la pen and amir karich followed shortly ( these players costing around 10 mil in transfer fees alone). The old northstand was pulled down and our first game was at home to Derby, resulting in a 3-1 to town, Finidi george putting in what i felt was one of the finest debut performance ever seen at portman road. At the time we all felt that life as a town fan was on the way up, how wrong could we be? Relegation and administration were to follow, IT was those expensive signings that ruined this club and i dare say the dressing room spirit. So lets no worry about expensive stars, lets get in the right players and build a team to take us up the way the scum did it. Lets give paul jewel his deserved chance to do this. COYB

Can't believe all the moaning on here. This is exactly the calibre of player we should be aiming for, and if it comes to nothing - well, at least we're trying. Massive ears, though.

I agree with Seasider in one respect, though: this is a very poor Ipswich Town squad, and the loan signing of Bullard - while an excellent move - papered over a lot of very serious weaknesses.

I trust PJ to get us to the promised land, but only if Clegg starts doing his job properly, I really have no faith in the bloke.

The more I think about the current state of our squad, the more worried I get. For instance, I'd never really considered central defence to be one of the problem areas, but all of a sudden we appear to be in something of a minor crisis: Delaney and Smith are now our only recognised centre backs, unless I'm missing someone. Add to that our limited options up front, a central midfield that (assuming Bullard doesn't sign) is pretty uninspiring and only one recognised full back (and he's 35) and I'm a bit worried, to be honest. Not a moan as such; I like PJ and I really want him to do well. But I disagree with him when he says we need 5 or 6 new players. We need 7 or 8. At least.

Agree Pique, I said the exact same thing on a post last week, I'm not sure Fulop is the answer to our GK position, surely we need 2 x CB just to have enough bodies! a new right back, 2 x CM (we've lost Norris & Bullard) a new winger with pace wouldn't go amiss either!! add to that that we desperately need 2 X strikers & you've got a new squad!! & lets be honest this really is the minimum required!! realistically, we're not gonna sign 8/9 players, but IMO it's gonna take this amount of "quality" players for us to just compete.... we'll see....
Pique added 22:02 - Jun 2
Suffolk_n_Good: Exactly. Think your list is spot on, although I might also add a left back; let's face it, Kennedy isn't going to play 46 games next season, and if PJ doesn't fancy O'Connor or Civelli in that position and Whight isn't ready, we've got another problem. Agree that Fulop isn't the answer at GK either, although given the current state of the rest of the squad I'd keep him exactly where he is for now!

Pique - 'the calibre of player we need'? Who is he!? Germinal Berrschot!? Never heard of them let alone him. Sure he's decent enough if Jewell likes him but fairly sure 100% of us on here have no idea what he's like!
Suffolk_n_Good added 22:17 - Jun 2
LOL Pique!! GK is the least of our worries!!! at least we've got someone to play in that position!!
Pique added 22:24 - Jun 2
Keaneish: I hadn't heard of him either, but that's beside the point. I doubt many people had heard of Antonio Valencia or Pascal Chimbonda when PJ brought them to English football, but those players alone suggest he deserves the benefit of the doubt. As for 'calibre', winning 6 caps for Belgium (currently second in Group A behind Germany) and playing alongside Kompany, Vermaelen and Fellaini sounds pretty thoroughbred compared to our current midfield options.
