Liverpool Make Wickham Bid
Liverpool Make Wickham Bid
Friday, 3rd Jun 2011 23:28

Liverpool have made Town an £8 million offer for striker Connor Wickham, according to a number of national newspapers. The Reds have long been linked with the 18-year-old with their director of football strategy Damien Comolli at the Hull City match in February.

If the reports prove to be true, it’s unlikely a bid of that size would be enough to tempt the Blues and at least one paper claims the offer has already been turned down. A figure of between £10 million and £15 million is understood to be Town’s asking price with Wickham’s recently signed contract until 2014 believed to include a clause which would allow him to speak to a club if they make the Blues an offer at this pre-set level.

The Merseysiders, who Wickham supported as a boy, were also linked with the Hereford-born frontman earlier today, while Tottenham are long-term admirers.

If Town do sell Wickham this summer, they would probably prefer to do so after the UEFA European U21 Championship in Denmark later this month where, with all the Premier League big guns keeping a close eye on his progress, his value could increase.

After facing Norway in a warm-up game at Southampton on Sunday (ESPN/ESPN HD 2.30pm), Stuart Pearce’s side will take on Spain on June 12th, Ukraine on June 15th and the Czech Republic on June 19th in the group stages.

h32, while i accept i probably worded my comment 2 jas0999 badly by saying go support some1 else, my actual point was that the club doesnt need negativity from its supporters. while im not saying we should be wildly over optimistic, my point was that ive never seen jas, or 1 or 2 others, ever post nething positive on here. i too would post a negative opinion if it was justified, just dont feel theres ne reason 4 it rite now. as i said 2 jas, if we not got a few signings in by mid july, then yes, we every reason 2 be pessimistic.

blues1 - first and foremost the 'negativity' you mention is created by the Club itself, and there for all to see.
If you can see anything at all positive coming out of Portman Road right now - then you've seen something, I and many others, have certainly missed.

Therefore what can be expected from sensible supporters other than negative opinion and thoughts ?

Wickham knows that moving to a major club like Liverpool will mean playing reserve footie for awhile. Something he is not keen on. However it goes without saying that the club will sell him on our terms, for we do not need to sell him to survive do we?

Only sell him if a) the money is right, b) the deal includes add ons etc. and more importantly c) we have 2 or 3 players already signed to replace him. We must not be sold short in the terms of money or players.
