Town Again Linked With Chopra Bid
Town Again Linked With Chopra Bid
Tuesday, 7th Jun 2011 20:55

Town continue to be linked with a bid for Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra. The Blues, who former manager Roy Keane targeted last summer, are again reported to have made an offer for the 27-year-old former Newcastle and Sunderland frontman.

Late last month, Town were understood to have turned their attention towards Chopra, having had a £2.3 million offer for Doncaster’s Billy Sharp rejected.

Cardiff, who recently sacked manager Dave Jones, were believed to be waiting until the appointment of their new boss to make a decision on whether to allow Chopra to leave with a bid of £1 million said to have been lodged, although some sources have suggested that the Welsh club are looking to recoup more of the £4 million they paid Sunderland in July 2009 with a fee of £2.5 million mooted.

More recently it has been claimed that the Welsh club could allow Chopra to leave even before the appointment of Jones's successor, perhaps with Town becoming impatient regarding the situation.

Elsewhere, Watford’s Danny Graham, linked with the Blues earlier in the summer, has completed his £3.5 million move from Watford to Swansea, signing a four-year contract.

I would say this is more than a link. Radio Suffolk reporting that a bid has been made around £1m mark and Cardiff are considering it, would be surprised if he was allowed to go for that, but fingers crossed.

Cardiff failed in the play offs, they are rebuilding to go straight up next season.
Chopra not good enough for them, but he is for us. Says it all.

tractorboybig what rubbish you talk last season he played 27 games in all competitions 9 of those was sub apperances due to playing behide bellamy and bothroyd in the pecking order at cardiff and scored 11 goals during that period.

Oh and i nearly forgot to add weren't he also out for 8 weeks of the season as well so scoring 11 goals in all competions with what has happened is impressive in my books you may disagree but i think it is.

I ask you what type of player would you want to get then at ipswich then as you seem to moan at every single player we are linked with

since when was a 27 year old "an old player at the end of their career"?

Chopra would be quality. The reason why a 1 million bid may be accepted is because he only has 1 year left on his contract and cardiff are in financial difficulties so may need the cash...

Blue Army is spot on. would be a fantastic signing

If there is some truth in this and we do sign him then thank God we didn't pay £4 million last season.

I would be surprised, with Bothroyd gone and Bellamy returned to City, they are low on strikers themselves.

Surely they will wait until the new manager is installed before making a decision?

Unless they need the money now to pay an interest payment.

Is this guy really as good as what we all think he is?
Has he got anything to prove to anybody or are we just getting another out going player if roumers are true?
Yes he can score goals but only if he's up for it and the two games against us last year ok injured for one but the other i thought he was poor and not interested.....
If were going to spend money on a striker lets go out and get one that wants to progress and wants to show people what they can do........what about Matt Tubbs from Crawley Town...40+ goals last year. Watched him in the FA cup a couple of times and has got that hunger to put his head in where it hurts..... only 24 as well i think....looks like he has something to prove to....worth a punt i think,

Good value of we can do the deal - Still would like Sharp but for no more than £2m - seeing as Graham - proven last season - went for £3.5m
Wickham will probably go me thinks

First of all - great job TWTD. Keep these rumours and links coming, its what makes the close season interesting.

Secondly, I find a few of the posts above unbelievably negative and naive and pointless. In particular, IF a bid has been placed, the club would be confident that they could offer realistic and attractive terms to the player. They will be aware the type of contract the player currently has and will believe that they can compete with that, in terms of wages, bonuses and length of contract.

Thirdly, why keep battering ME, SC and PJ. Give the management team time, we will be able to judge the success of the summer dealings once the season is in full swing, and the success of PJ tenure once he has had a full season or two.

ME continued investment has taken this club from a dire financial position for which we should be thankful. This investment will continue as ME now needs the Premier League for a return on his investment.

SC in all fairness has to do his job inside the financial parameters set out by ME.

And lastly, if anyone thinks PJ isn't bothered about being a success at Ipswich then they are simpy deluded.

The field is playing us out there with everyone being cagey about the availability and price of our targets. Let's hope we are also playing the field ourselves a bit!

if we can get chopra, nugent and keep wickham and play a 4-3-3 with these 3 guys up front then it could possibly be intreasting.Could even play Wickham just behind these 2
