Wickham Back at Town to Say Goodbyes Friday, 1st Jul 2011 15:26
Ex-Town striker Connor Wickham was back at Playford Road today to say his goodbyes to his former team-mates as they began their preparations for the 2011/12 campaign. The 18-year-old joined Sunderland in a deal which will ultimately rise to more than £12 million earlier this week.
Boss Paul Jewell said: "It was nice to see Connor pop in and say his goodbyes. We are sad to see him go. It's disappointing but we couldn't stand in his way and he goes with our best wishes and hopefully it's a move that will work out for both parties."
Wickham is now off on holiday having been away with England’s U21s at the UEFA European Championship in Denmark this summer.
Meanwhile, defender Tommy Smith enjoyed this morning’s training session, tweeting: “First day done. Good to be back! Feeling good, looking forward to tomorrow already!”
Elsewhere, former Town skipper David Norris has completed his Bosman move to Portsmouth, signing a three-year deal.

The midfielder said: “I’m delighted it’s finally done and dusted. I spoke to the manager back in January, and we’ve been in touch and I’m happy to be here.
“Portsmouth seems to be everyone’s favourite neutral team — everyone seems to like to see Pompey do well, especially with the troubles they’ve had.”

Best of luck to Wickham. Norris clearly lied through his teeth then. No surprise.

Glad to see Connor come abnd say farewell, Norris - complete to$$er, had it sorted for a while. As for the troubles Pompey have had, all self inflicted, feel more sorry for the companies owed money by them

Mr Norris you have got it completely wrong as Portsmouth have a dreadul reputation for the way their financial affairs have been handled and the way the Club has been run. They are most definitely not everyones favourite second team in fact they one of the most unpopular. The only praise I can give you is that despite knowing you were going to leave you did give 100 per cent to the very end. Hope you enjoy playing at the run down Fratton Park in a very depressing area of Town but then money talks doesn't it Mr Norris.

Norris was part of the Magilton/Keane era of avergeness. Wickham was the best thing Keane did at this club and now hes gone too. Hope Jewell gets a reliable midfielder in the guise of Jimmy Bullard. After all, he did score our most important goals in the second half of the season.

Nice to see Connor come back to say goodbye and thank everyone - shows what a nice lad he really is. As for Mr. Norris - great shame. I was one of those backing him when he was really lying about wanting to stay. Egg on face time, sorry to those I scorned.
