Evans Bid Turned Down - Reports
Evans Bid Turned Down - Reports
Tuesday, 19th Jul 2011 08:43

Town have had a £1 million offer for striker Ched Evans rebuffed by Sheffield United, according to reports this morning. The Wales international has been linked with the Blues on a number of occasions since May, most recently on Saturday.

The Blades, who were relegated to League One in May, are desperate to remove Evans’s £15,000-a-week salary from their wage bill and look set to make a significant loss on the £3 million fee they paid Manchester City for the 22-year-old’s services in the summer of 2009. However, it appears the Blues will have to offer more cash if they are to sign the Wales international.

Evans, who has also recently been mentioned in connection with Middlesbrough, Leicester and Cardiff, is understood not to have travelled with the rest of the Blades squad to their pre-season camp in Malta.

Elsewhere, Cardiff boss Malky Mackay is reported to have reiterated his desire to keep midfielder Peter Whittingham, who was linked with the Blues by Welsh sources over the weekend in the wake of the Blues’ offer for a winger being turned down.

Meanwhile, there’s been no news on whether Town will further their interest in veteran former Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Coventry and Hull holding midfielder George Boateng. The Dutchman recently spent time training with the Blues and was set for a similar spell with Nottingham Forest last week.

Forest man Guy Moussi, who plays a similar role to the 35-year-old, was also a player interesting the Blues but the 26-year-old Frenchman has agreed a new deal with Steve McClaren's club.

Town’s senior players are in action in their first UK-based pre-season friendly this evening when they take on Blue Square Bet Premier side Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium (KO 7.45pm).

Those that aren’t involved tonight are likely to be in the squad which faces Bury Town at Ram Meadow on Wednesday (KO 7.45pm).

The first bid will always be rejected, improve the offer and he would be our player.

Poor old Phil, some of you complain about the point of some of these stories and others like myself love them! It seems he can't get it right!

Magilton, Keame and now PJ can't sign players. Or is the problem Evans and his lack of ambitiion?

Sheff Utd's board told their manager that he needs to sell Evans as he is one of their top earners. Surprised 1 Million was rebuffed. Think he would be a decent signing.

I love the way we have an offer turned down and there is a 'problem'. It's the art of good negotioation. If we weren't getting offers turned down I would be concerned about our valuation of players. We're right to play hard ball, just because we have some money doesn't mean we'll spend over the odds.

For what it's worth, Evans is a good player and could be the perfect strike partner to Chopra. I think Priskin or Scotland needs to move on though.

why do people continually insist on us buying sharp? i understand that he is a good player, however him and chopra upfront together would cause defenders much aerial threat. We havnt got a lot of height in our team apart from delaney and ingimarson so a large striker would be beneficial, to give us another outlet and to cause a danger from set pieces

Yeah forget him, didn't do anything last season - we need bigger fish in our pond!

Blades fan in peace....

I don't believe this report,I'm sure McCabe wouldn't turn down £1M for Evans, they want him out asap as his wages are said to be around £15,000 a week. This quoted £3M we supposedly paid for him is incorrect, we actually paid around £750,000 with the rest of the £3M being made up of add ons such as appearances, and if we got promoted to the PL(that one was a laugh) This info came from Mr McCabe himself on a radio Sheffield interview a few months ago so we didn't pay £3M for him guys.

for all those who are stating that evans is a bad player due to his lack of success at sheff utd, & that we should sign sharp, just remamber that sharp was at sheff utd a couple of seasons ago, when they had a much better team & was absolutely rubbish, so dont think you should judge evans when he was playing in a very poor team. its hard to perform in a team thats struggling, especially when their style of football isnt really suited to your game. so, should he sign for us, just get behind him, he may just prove all you doubters wrong.

I reckon we'll go back in with £1.5m bid tell them that is as high as we will go and they will accept....As for those complaining PJ can't sign players and/or is the problem with Evans...did your mother drop you lot on your heads as babies? It is the only answer that makes sense. And those saying forget Evans he's crap go after Sharpe I want to pose the the same question....Sharpe does not want to come here...and it would be a disaster if he did ass he is too simular to Chopra....As far as Evans goes I trust PJ's judgement not some morons on a football website....

It's great that we're able to give our new signings a proper pre-season.

If true, we'll inevitably offer more and he'll soon be an ITFC player as Sheff U need to get his wages off the books. Right sort of player I guess (ie tall target man that could play next to Chops), but not really that excited by him to be honest

blues1-Totally agree with your comments, I feel sure the 'tictacs' will be 4-4-2 at home this season and PJ is looking to fill square holes with square pegs, players that can compliment each other, imo Evans has potential to be a good signing.
johnhazelbum-did you fall out of bed on the wrong side this morning?;)

Would prefer Maynard, Leicester are reported to be intrested (on BBC) and still to sign the contract offered by Bristol.

PJ has only spend £1.5 million of his budget, I am guessing that the budget was higher than that plus the extra money from the Wickham sale.

So PJ must have money to burn so to speak, Maynard Sharpe Wittingham Coppiner
1 striker and 1 midfielder out of those four would do me

Really do need another class CB and poss a keeper to really push Fulop

Johnhazelbum - if you look at the transfers in other champ clubs this summer you'll see that teams have made a similar amount of signings to us. W Ignoring the likes or West Ham and Leicester...

It's often very hard for any manager to bring in players to Suffolk, especially when competing with London clubs. I think PJ is doing a tremendous job thus far.
