Trust U16 Girls Win Dana Cup
Trust U16 Girls Win Dana Cup
Monday, 8th Aug 2011 15:07

The ITFC Charitable Trust’s U16s girls' team won the 2011 Dana Cup in Denmark last weekend. It's the second time they have won the competition, one of the biggest youth tournaments in Europe which has in excess of 800 teams participating each year, having previously carried it off in 2009.

The squad of 14 took on teams from across Scandinavia, Cyprus, the USA and Europe, beating Norwegian side Gneist IL in the final 2-1.

Mark Lawrence, former Girls’ Centre of Excellence Director said: “After the disappointment of not gaining a licence from the FA to run our Girls’ Centre of Excellence, the girls felt they had a point to prove and duly showed this with their passion and play during the tournament.

“The girls' squad’s team spirit and commitment contrived to make this a wonderful ending to Ipswich Town Girls’ Centre of Excellence."

The Trust’s boys' U15 team also did well at this year’s Dana Cup, only just missing out on the first place trophy after losing on penalties in the final. This was a fantastic achievement as there were 91 teams competing in the boys U15s section.

The boys' U12s team managed to finish first in their league but were knocked out in the quarter finals stages by a team from Sweden.

Just shows what a disgrace it was by the FA not to renew the girls license, all people deserve an equal shot at their dreams and theres plenty of females who dream about playing in the new superleague and maybe england one day especially with the new TV coverage the national team gets on the BBC. The FA should be creating more centres not getting rid of what they already have!

That's very good. Come on we need a couple of Nobby Styles in the midfield. Great opportunities.
