Hull: Ayala Set for Norwich
Hull: Ayala Set for Norwich
Thursday, 11th Aug 2011 13:45

Hull City manager Nigel Pearson is reported to have said that he expects Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala to join Norwich City. The Tigers have given up the chase for their former loanee having had an £850,000 offer accepted for the Spaniard last week and with the Blues and Swansea also understood to be chasing the 20-year-old.

Earlier in the week, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that the club had made an offer for a central defender — and was still awaiting a response this morning — but said other clubs, including two from the Premier League were also interested: “I think there are about four clubs, including a couple of Premier League clubs in for him as well, so that’s where we are.”

If that player was Ayala, then it seems likely that Jewell will have to continue his lengthy search for additional central defenders.

Pearson is also reported to have said that there are no new developments on Jimmy Bullard’s situation at Hull.

It was always going to be Norwich with full houses every week and a realistic chance of staying up. Blackburn, QPR and Swansea for the drop I hate to say.

on the contrary , Id say Norwich are one of the favs for the drop back to Championship. Not overly impressed with the calibre of player they have brought in , if "staying up" was the intention. They look to me , to be preparing for life after relegation !

I hope you are right Retro but don't forget they have a fine Manager who motivates ordinary players. If Ayala does sign, Lambert is on the way to solving the one problem area they have - the defence. Be interesting to see who PJ targets now but it looks grim for Saturday especially if Delaney does not make it.

Sat with a Norwich fan now (not happy about it) and he is scratching his head as to why (if true) they are signing him. He said they've got more than enough defenders!

And agree RetroBlue - Norwich will only get the three seasons in the Premiership... autumn, winter and spring!

Agree 100% with Retroblue, seems the budgies have bought players good enough for the Championship the season after, not the Premiership this.

Hardly looks grim. It'll be Smith in for Ivor and the same team that smashed Bristol last week. Many of which have had Tuesday night off. I'm confident ahead of Saturday, i've seen nothing in Hull to impress me.

As for Norwich, i couldn't give a feck what they get up to. Infact, a Premier League East Anglian derby 2012/2013 would be excellent for the region.

COYB!

Norwich apparently had a 5 year plan on relegation to League 1 whereby they got promoted in 2 years, then got promoted again in 3 years.

They managed both within the first 2 years.

After that, the plan was to consolidate as a premier league side with a relegation planned in.

If that plan is any good and if they are still sticking to it, then getting relegated this season is part of the plan. If they get lucky and manage to stay up, then even better.

Nonetheless, lets hope they go down.

Not saying we Bullard is coming but was just playing with the maths.

If Hull terminated Bullard's contract with a pay-off of a year's salary and he is on £45k per week that would be £2.3m. If he then signed for a club who paid him 20k per week for a two year deal he would earn £1m per annum. After two years he would have had the same income from moving as he would have had staying!

The club getting Bullard would only have paid £2m and Hull would save £2m. So everyone would come out as winners?

i have to agree with retro, the players Norwich have purchased are hardly going to set the league alight, i dont believe they are of the quality needed to compete and stay in the prem...but probably are good enough to do well in the championship the following season!...i also agree with stow however....Lambert is a fine manager and motivator but you need more than motivation to stay in the top division...you need a bit of class and some luck!...ask Ian Holloway..as he walks past the dug out at portman road again this season.....
