Are You the Hottest Shot in Town? Monday, 15th Aug 2011 17:15
The Blues are looking for fans to take part in their Hottest Shot in Town competition. Three supporters will be invited on to the pitch at half-time to discover whether or not they are a latter-day Ted Phillips.
The ITFC Charitable Trust will be armed with a speedgun to test the power of contestants' shots, each of whom will get two blasts, with the top four over the season returning to Portman Road for the final home game against Millwall on April 21st, to find the overall winner.
The winning contestant will not only land the title of the Hottest Shot in Town, they will also walk off with £1000 of vouchers to spend in the Co-op.
But there will be an extra edge to that as well, where speed work will come in handy again - and the winner will be joined by a Town player to claim their prize. Further details will follow from the club at a later date.
Ex-Blue Fabian Wilnis had a go on Saturday, hitting the 65mph mark but can you do any better? To enter the Hottest Shot in Town competition, text ITFC and the following details to 60070
ITFC (Full name) (Age) (Contact number) so for example: itfc paul jewell 27 01473 400500
Don't forget to leave a space after ITFC or your entry won't get registered. The club will call you if you've been selected, so make sure you provide the best contact number on which you can be reached.
Texts will cost your standard network rate for SMS. Please get permission from the person who pays the bill. By sending SMS messages to Ipswich Town FC, you agree that the club may send no-cost return messages, at any time post-receipt of your message for the purposes of advertising and marketing. To opt out of receiving these please text STOP to 60070.

Might have a go at this one, because I am guaranteed to win. But what the hell is the Co-op when it's at home and what do they sell? Hang on. I won't be taking part after all. It says Hottest Shot. Could have sworn that 'o' was an 'i'. COYB! FOG!

I'd enter (and win) but there's nothing in the co-op I want. In fact I think the co-op is terrible.

I hope they drug test all competitors. Wouldn't be a level playing field if they didn't.

Wonderful to hear the words "Ted Phillips" again. The Leiston killer. I remember standing on my orange box

and watching him crash the cross bar above goalies who knew precisely where it was going but wouldn't risk their fingers

Will we be allowed a run up or will it be from a standing start? Don't know why I'm asking as I'm rubbish with a really soft shot

Orange boxes were indeed part of the equipment for us youngsters in the early 60s. Thank you "Fourth." I do remember standing behind the "Churchman's" End when a furious penalty from Ted Phillips burst the net and rebounded off the wall to hit the opposing goalkeeper on the backside with the rebound.
