Delaney Out for Six Weeks
Delaney Out for Six Weeks
Tuesday, 8th Nov 2011 16:36

Town defender Damien Delaney is expected to be out of action for around six weeks after undergoing surgery on the stress fracture of his foot he suffered during the recent defeat to Crystal Palace.

Boss Paul Jewell said: "Damien has a stress fracture of his foot and he's going to be out for a little while.

"He had an operation yesterday and he will be out for a while, maybe six weeks or so, but I'm not sure on an exact timescale so we will have to just wait and see."

The Blues boss has had better news regarding Lee Bowyer, Daryl Murphy and Nathan Ellington: "Lee Bowyer and Daryl Murphy did some running with the physios today, so those two are progressing nicely, and Duke's calf is OK now.”

Bowyer had been suffering with back and hamstring problems, while Murphy pulled his hamstring in the reserves defeat to Arsenal last Tuesday.

Was going to make some smart arse comment about not caring but then realised it could mean Tommy Smith back in the team!!!

If Murphy can get fit I'd have him left wing (I've never rated Martin) with Carson on right. On current form I'd drop Bullard so central pair would be Andrews and Leadbitter.

i think some people need to be careful what they wish for... last season with G MAC next to him Delaney played well, this year he had the terrible Smith (who is also left footed) and the very young and NOT centre back Ainsley, the poor guy didnt stand a chance! Keanish i agree with every think you print normally but on this one i disagree it was the entire team that were at fault you cannot make scape goats of two of them although arguably Leadboots is the captain and should have tried to raise his team... If Delanney is out, Inger not fit, Sonko not fit and Colllins returned we are potentially left with Ainsley and Smith at centre back god help us all.......... BTW those saying Sonko is ingury prone, i disagree he has had the same injury all season but not been allowed to let it heal properly hence i has become a major rather than a minor problem, and Ingermarson was great in the game is saw pre season he has just been thrown in at the deep end and to be honest is just far too injury prone, he has been poor since returning but i still think he is a decent player if only he could keep fit and play week in week out.

"young stars can step up"
Who exactly? Ainsley- No. Nowhere near ready yet and showed it the last time he played for us. Tommy Smith-No. Been really dreadful for us every time he's stepped up.
As for Ingimarrson- dear oh dear.....
Its difficult to see who can play alongside Collins when Sonko is out. I would pick Delaney. He's the best of a bad, bad, bad bunch.

Delaney and leadbitter were two of the most senior and permanent Town players on the pitch that day who had been at the club for a while plus they were the core of the team along with Chopra. As senior pros I do hold both of them responsible and it was mainly through the middle we were exposed.

That said, I take your point bluejay about who would partner Collins with Sonko and Ingy both out. I can't ever see smith playing again and ainsley isn't ready either. Jewell obviously agrees as he would have had at least one on the bench for the donnie game.

More injuries, just what we need. So the defender saga continues...

Keanish, one could argue that both Martin and Smith are somewhat responsible too, although it was a little too late when Smith came on he didnt help the course did he? I do know where you are coming from though!!

Damien Delayed-Knee and Grant Leadboots are no big loss really.

bluelady - you're right, with G MAC beside him Delaney was very much doing the business - G MAC did so much to help him, and they formed a useful partnership.

He again needs the G MAC type of player beside him - which, without Sonko, we haven't got.
Delaney lacks confidence, and I believe becomes totally confused as to what is going on around him - there for all to see I'm afraid.
Shame really - and something GOOD coaches should be able to work on !! - not seeing much progress in that direction.
