Jewell Linked With Hulse Reunion Tuesday, 22nd Nov 2011 22:49
Town manager Paul Jewell could be one of a number of Championship bosses tempted by the loan availability of QPR striker Rob Hulse, according to reports in London. The Premier League club are said to have circulated the 32-year-old’s name along with those of several other fringe players ahead of Thursday’s 5pm deadline.
Hulse is understood to have turned down a switch to Doncaster as he wants to remain in the south, while Blackpool were also claimed to be amongst those interested last week.
Jewell signed Hulse for £1.75 million from Sheffield United when Derby boss in July 2008 and the 6ft 1½in tall frontman was understood to have been in the Town manager’s thoughts when he was looking to add to his attacking options in the summer.
The likely exit of Tamás Priskin, coincidentally to Derby, could see Jewell seek to augment his striking ranks before Thursday's deadline, although the link with Hulse could just be down to the pair's previous association at Pride Park.
Hulse, who started his career with hometown club Crewe and has also played for Hyde United (loan), West Brom and Leeds, joined QPR ahead of 2010/11 for a £1 million fee but managed only 13 starts and nine sub appearances in their promotion season, scoring two goals.
In the summer, Hulse, whose Loftus Road contract runs to June 2013, decided against a move to Millwall as he was hoping for some involvement in QPR’s first season back in the Premier League, however, he is still to feature for Neil Warnock’s side.
Also on the circulated list are centre-half Danny Shittu, Brazilian defender or midfielder Bruno Perone and Norwegian winger Petter Vaagan Moen.

I got excited by the headline when I first read it. My Blackberry truncated it and I read 'Jewell linked with Hul' Hoped he was going to be the new Hull manager

"although the link with Hulse could just be down to the pair's previous association at Pride Park." would have welcomed him in the summer before we came a retirement home

Where in the report does it say PJ wants to bring him in, what it says is that he is on a list that QPR want to ship out and was considered in the summer, but as usual the Portman panic merchants spout off before actually reading the article in context.

Aghh! Why are we even looking at loaning a striker? It's about the only area of the pitch that isn't a priority for us. Sort out the goal keeper situation, central defence and midfield first please PJ!

*SIGH* Everyone has 'stolen' my thoughts on reading this frankly unbelievable piece of news. Jewell is literally becoming a parody of his own cliche (and dragging our precious football club down into his house of horrors with him...) *SIGH* Will ANYONE be at PR this Saturday (apart from those poor souls who shelled out for a season ticket when there was still hope that they were going to be seeing some decent football)?

Oh come off it! Hulse again - he's linked to Town every 3 weeks. If had a fiver for every time I've seen his name linked with us, i reckon I'd have well over £30 by now! Another exceptionally average also ran. Really tenuous media speculation, certainly no reason to be demanding Jewell's head on a platter!

Hulse ...PAH ...his recent goalscoring record, age and lack of first team football make him an ideal player for town! Shittu i would like to see signed just for the comedic connotations of his name being sung by the North stand.....(but dont tell the supporters club!!!!)
MathieandMarshall added 12:17 - Nov 23
I signed Shittu for my Town team on FIFA 11, was Immense! Mind you i also managed to bring in Scott Sinclair, Darren Ambrose, John Walters and Roger Johnson. Strangely though despite transfer listing Leadbitter i was unable to sell him. Some times FIFA can be a true reflection of life! : )

Just think Charmboy, you could have wasted that £30 on some more dross this Saturday at PR or kept it in your pocket.!!!
blue_floyd added 12:53 - Nov 23
Our defence needs sorting out first. Get Shittu in instead.
tomisamos added 13:04 - Nov 23
I love how the fact that Danny Shittu is over 30, struggling to break into the side and probably likely to only really play out one last contract doesn't bother anyone yet the biggest objection to Hulse and about half the players Jewell has actually signed is that they are over 30, would have struggled to play for a higher league team and are big names that are only likely to play out one last contract.

We don't need another striker, we have enough already, what we need is quality in the midfield that will supply our strikers, oh wait, we have Lee Martin and Josh Carson for that, and didn't Jewell compare Byron Lawrence to Jack Wilshere? If so then put him in, he can't be any worse than Leadbitter surely? I feel sorry for our youngsters if we prefer to bring in has-beens instead of giving them a chance.

Jimmy Juan and Sixto Peralta is the answer
davidsc1971 added 13:44 - Nov 23
Alan Shearer is available, and Teddy Sherringham. In midfield why not Gazza or Paul Ince. All available on frees. Paul Mariner, George Burley, Alan Brazil..... why stop at 30-somethings?
