Jewell Linked With Hulse Reunion
Jewell Linked With Hulse Reunion
Tuesday, 22nd Nov 2011 22:49

Town manager Paul Jewell could be one of a number of Championship bosses tempted by the loan availability of QPR striker Rob Hulse, according to reports in London. The Premier League club are said to have circulated the 32-year-old’s name along with those of several other fringe players ahead of Thursday’s 5pm deadline.

Hulse is understood to have turned down a switch to Doncaster as he wants to remain in the south, while Blackpool were also claimed to be amongst those interested last week.

Jewell signed Hulse for £1.75 million from Sheffield United when Derby boss in July 2008 and the 6ft 1½in tall frontman was understood to have been in the Town manager’s thoughts when he was looking to add to his attacking options in the summer.

The likely exit of Tamás Priskin, coincidentally to Derby, could see Jewell seek to augment his striking ranks before Thursday's deadline, although the link with Hulse could just be down to the pair's previous association at Pride Park.

Hulse, who started his career with hometown club Crewe and has also played for Hyde United (loan), West Brom and Leeds, joined QPR ahead of 2010/11 for a £1 million fee but managed only 13 starts and nine sub appearances in their promotion season, scoring two goals.

In the summer, Hulse, whose Loftus Road contract runs to June 2013, decided against a move to Millwall as he was hoping for some involvement in QPR’s first season back in the Premier League, however, he is still to feature for Neil Warnock’s side.

Also on the circulated list are centre-half Danny Shittu, Brazilian defender or midfielder Bruno Perone and Norwegian winger Petter Vaagan Moen.

Un-fcuking-believable. We have a young striker scoring for fun in the reserves not being given the chance, and Jewell starts looking at another 30+ y.o striker from a Prem team.

"although the link with Hulse could just be down to the pair's previous association at Pride Park"

"Town manager Paul Jewell could be"

"according to reports in London."

In light of the above, why are so many people taking this as gospel?? If it happens, complain by all means if you don't like it, but having a go at PJ over woolly newspaper reports in the capital is not really on.

What a sad comment board TWTD has become. Lets switch it off for a few weeks. It is more depressing than the ITFC results!

.......... just the type of player Jewell would sign - ticks all HIS boxes.

Get rid of this excuse of a Manager before we literally disappear without trace - everyone can see it, the only requirement for anyone to do so, is to possess a grain of Football knowledge.

As bluelady rightly says, only a link - but I would not be at all surprised if it all materialised.

What is this, a football club or a retirement home?

For gods sake Jewell get some young up and coming talent in or you will be history, sooner rather than later!

I really hope there isnt any truth in this and it is just lazy journalism. We have two excellent goalscorers at championship level in the team already in Chopra and Scotland, the problem is we are not providing them with the chances to score. Signing more strikers will not change this, changing the tactics and bringing in width and pace to midfield and defence will

Dear Mr Jewell, I am the wrong side of 30, got a dodgy knee so a little injury prone, not blessed with great pace and if the going gets tough will probably shy away from working too hard. I have played for several clubs but never really had success, would really appreciate one last pay day before everyone realises I am completely past it. Where do I apply???

I see it as a significant step towards making us a more entertaining side. But we should only sign him if he agrees to bring Emu with him!

if we had an emu a horse and a bullock in the team we would be unbeatable
