Higginbotham Reported to Have Turned Down Town
Higginbotham Reported to Have Turned Down Town
Tuesday, 31st Jan 2012 10:47

Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham is reported to have turned down the chance to join the Blues. The 33-year-old looks set to leave the Britannia Stadium and is said to be weighing up whether to move to West Ham, Birmingham or Leeds.

The veteran central defender or left-back is believed to have decided against the proposed move to Portman Road as it was too far from his family home near to his current club.

Fellow Stoke defender Danny Collins was similarly understood to be less than keen to return to Portman Road due to being based in the North-West, although is now close to joining Southampton.

The Blues would probably have looked at ex-Sunderland, Derby and Manchester United man Higginbotham as an alternative signing to main target Portsmouth’s Jason Pearce, probably on loan with the 6ft 1in tall Mancunian contracted to the Potters until 2013.

I think in the case of signing a centre half the age is not important. We can all bang on about how its just over 30's being signed however clearly the majority of targets are young players and now any over 30 Jewell gets shot down for even looking at. We need to be realistic and sometimes the older centre halves with experienced heads are the better ones. Look at John Terry, Jamie Carragher, Rio Ferdinand etc.. The age of centre backs is not too important and Higginbotham is actually a good defender who takes a quality free kick and long shot.

my point - Stop having a go at PJ for everything he does and give the man a break because to stay in this league everyone needs to come together and support the ******* team, not all being negative. This needs to start tonight which i have no doubt that it will as we are playing West Ham, however it needs to happen at every game home and away. The fans really can be a 12th man sometimes.

Mathew Upson fed up not getting games at Stoke wants a move, Titus Bramle not playing at Sunderland, both Ipswich lads, both better than what we have got, worth a punt even to keep us up this season.

Kyle McFadzean would be a good signing. West Ham are so concerned about our
impenetrable defence that their signing three new strikers for tonite's game!

why come to a club thats sliding into League 1, irrespctive of what Olympics Clegg says about us making progress - Oly Clegg would see changing kits every year as progress, but fails to do anything about why we are here - to play football and win games - give Clegg the heave ho ME, you can do it, you've got all your Olympic deals done now, he has no further use

More hot air coming out of our club to tty and keep the fans happy.

We will end up with no one. Surely he must have had his targets at the beginning of the window and should have moved quicker. The transfer window isn't a surprise!

Reading have signed Matthew Connolly on loan from qpr who is a good young centre half and a Peterborough defender going to Swansea.

This shows the dire mess this club is in both on and off the pitch. If players don't want to join because of jewell or because they don't know if he will have job then something has to give.

If we get beat tonight I think you will hear some anger vented towards clegg and jewell. Enough is enough.

Olly Clegg will have waved his magic olympic flame wand, and rubbed his magic gold medal lantern - and puff, out comes the geni with a new team shirt and the business plan for new shirts each season - bl**dy marvelous Clegg, you're just what the Olympics need, catch the next train the Liverpool Street and get off at Stratford

If we don't sign anyone I think we'll lose badly.

He must go, he is as much use as a crate of vodka in a Mosque

Its all just hot air, we are signing nobody that will cost any money, the loan window opens next week then it will be business as usual, another couple of 34-35 yr olds who just want a few months away from their clubs and see where we end up in May !

upon second thought he actually equates more accurately to a crate of vodka in an AA meeting. The vodka in the Mosque is irrelevant and will cause no harm but in the AA meeting it will ruin those at the meeting, much like he is doing to our football club
