Collins Joins West Ham
Collins Joins West Ham
Friday, 9th Mar 2012 16:48

Former Blues loanee Danny Collins has joined West Ham from Stoke City on loan for the remainder of the season. The 31-year-old Welsh international was with Town between August and December making 16 appearances.

Collins says he's made the move to play matches, something he wasn't doing regularly at Stoke: "West Ham are going well in the league and looking for promotion. They are having a good season, so this was a chance for me to come out on loan and get some games in.

"I went out on loan to Ipswich earlier this season and played 16 games there and I've played a few games for Stoke, but I want to be playing week-in, week-out if I can. Hopefully I can come down here, get myself into the team and be part of it.

"I keep myself ready on and off the pitch and have been training hard to keep myself ticking over. I played a couple of games for Stoke over the last couple of weeks. I got the call on Thursday night so I've come down to try to play some games."

He did say he wanted to stay up north ...

We don't want him anyway, our CBs are ten times better!

Half an hour closer (three hours versus three and a half, according to Google). That'll make all the difference.

what a load of tosh. If Colllins wanted to play games he would have stayed with us. Absolute load of twaddle - why bother even reporting it?

So very close to Stoke, what an absolute tool. He should have at least been honest or even said nothing if he didn't want to come back, now he's just shown himself up.

A man who wants to be at a successful club.

I'm sure he was also quoted as saying he'd only consider Ipswich long-term if we were top 6. We're not and we're a long way from it. Fair play I say. Can you blame him?

My abiding memory of him from his Town days was the 3rd goal at Barnsley to put us ahead!

Makes absolute sense for the guy to make a decision in his best interest, which West Ham obviously is, as they look like they might win promotion, at which point he would be hoping to earn a contract and premiership wages.

The thing that really pi55es me off, is the total lack of honesty of these "mercenaries"! Why can't they just be honest, instead of spinning a load of crap about the family and being near Stoke, blah blah blah. Iused to like this guy, but now he has zero credibility with me and by the looks of things, not a lot of integrity to boot.

Shame, because he was a very good player.

He did well here, and although overated slightly I think, scored some important goals.

But since he's left Smith has been fantastic so in hindsight I'm glad he didn't come back.

Can't really blame him for going there but the spin he gave us before he left has now made him look a bit stupid. He could have kept his mouth shut.

In the media fascinated society we live in, spin has to be put on things. If he'd have said 'I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than continue at Ipswich' everybody would be whining, so of course he's gonna give a 'credible' reason not to. Joining a great footballing side there though, the hammers are like a little Baraca;0/

Glory hunter. And didn't prevent some really poor Town defeats. So important to have players who really want to wear the shirt!

Just to clarify a few facts ! Danny Collins enjoyed his time at PR. Indeed last month he contacted PJ to see if he could come back. PJ spoke to Tony Pulis who rebuffed him, saying he was in his plans while they are still in the FA cup. Not sure how big Sam has talked TP around but it was surprise to DC late last night that he was going

Another highly paid footballer who will say whatever he thinks the fans want to hear and then do something entirely in his own best interests.

You can't believe a word that most of them say.

Why do we care? Has nothing to do with us, so why even report this on TWTD? Only interested in ITFC players.

Overrated, just like Andrews, funny with the likes of them in the side we were absolute rubbish, now these couldn't care less loanees have gone we are better for it. Glad we didn't sign him or Andrews on permanent deals, thought they were overrated(Andrews in my opinion is one of the worst midfielders I've seen recently at PR, however the only thing he could do was score goals) and we leaked goals for fun with them and Englands equally useless number 3 keeper in goal!!!

Not sure I fully agree about Andrews but I hate the loanee system, think it is one of many factors desroying the game. Big clubs buy up all the young talent and thn loan out with clauses so cant harm the parent club. To me its buying points by default, if players were not allowed to go onloan and could only play for the team they sign for it would take the gloss off big money paydays for these youngsters. It would show the ones that love football or love sitting on thier arse taking the money.

WestNorfolk, I have a complete dislike of the loan system, however Jimmy coming in on loan last year was potentially the reason why we stayed up and not relegated. I don't like the idea of having a loanee in goal and I thought that Stockdale just looked dodgy at times, McCarthy has looked dodgy too, but the last couple of games he has played well, however he could disappear back to Reading at a moments notice and we wouldn't have a real number one keeper. My criticism of Andrews is based on how he seemed to get caught in possession and seemed to offer little protection in front of our back four as he seemed to give the ball away with misplaced passes all too often.
