Town Linked With New Move for Pearce
Town Linked With New Move for Pearce
Wednesday, 14th Mar 2012 09:26

Town have been linked with a renewed move for Portsmouth central defender Jason Pearce, one of the three Pompey players targeted in January. A return for Pearce, 24, would come as little surprise with chief executive Simon Clegg recently telling TWTD that the Blues’ attempt to sign some or all of the trio was still a "live issue".

Last week Town were understood to have been offered Joel Ward by Portsmouth, who are desperate of offload players to raise cash, while keeper Stephen Henderson, the third January target, joined West Ham on an initial loan earlier in the week.

The Hammers and Southampton have also been linked with moves for Pearce, who looks likely to leave Fratton Park before next Thursday’s loan deadline.

Although the transfer window is closed, clubs can sign players on loan with already agreed permanent deals then formalised in the summer.

Portsmouth refused bids from Town and other clubs for Pearce in January, although the Blues’ offers for Ward and Henderson were accepted, only for the deals to break down due to the players’ wage demands.

Elsewhere, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Arran Lee-Barrett, Josh Carson and Carlos Edwards were the players involved in yesterday’s photo shoot and filming to promote next season’s two new kits, which are being released in April.

Meanwhile, Town players past and present will be involved in the club’s golf day at Hintlesham today.

I hope this happens - unless he doesn't want to come here. in that case forget it and move on, going on far too long.

Dozzellsbobblehat - Too right, I sometimes wonder if some of our fans actually want the club to do well.

tractorboy2434: we dont have the money to buy Pearce? I'm under the impression that ME is more than willing to fund the club for the right players. A young good CB, I'm sure ME would see him as a right player. A Smith Pearce partnership at CB could be great for years to come IMHO.

Jason Pearce would be a great signing if his heart is actually in it rather than just coming to help Pompey out, Henderson was clearly just a money grabber as he said Portsmouth was best for his development, then a week later he's sat on West Hams bench as number 2 to butter fingers (Rob Green)

Sounds like the ball is in Pearce's court. Also whether he wants a payday or to play. Soon see if he's a money grabber and if so, do we really need another one of those ?

"If he was that good, would they be in the bottom three?"

Looks like saffronblue wins comment of the day...

We signed McAuley from Leicester after they were relegated from the Championship - he didn't turn out too badly for us.

I can remember McAuley turning out very badly for us in quite a few games. He had as many good games as he did bad games and therefore was an average player. Good riddance.

Im seriously sick and tired of this. Cant we sort it out or move on and forget about it? Please?
I know its hard talking to Pompey and all that but, ffs it cant take THAT long?

As has been mentioned, I highly doubt he would join Southampton as he was "so committed to pompey" in the transfer windor due to his love of the club. He would certainly go from hero to villain if he joined the saints and not only that would be clear that all coming from his mouth would be utter bullsh**. I believe this is a straight race between us and west ham. Wouldnt blame the guy for joining west ham if he did though due to potential premiership football next season.

If he joins west ham or saints, highly unlikely he will be their first choice centreback if either club gets promoted...

With us, he could be made captain!

I reckon if we will sign both of them as there manager said that wherever one goes the other follows. So it's just a matter of agreeing deals for both I reckon !!

Do me a favour "doubt he'll join Southampton" and "commited to Pompey".
The Pompey ship is sinking and the rats are jumping ship or being pushed, either way they have had their chances in joining town and they did'nt want to come, end of.
Since when have pro. footballers need a reason to leave and expand their wallets...sorry...career horizons. Leave him to drown along with that disgrace of a club, wallow on the bench at West Ham, or get called a judas going to Southampton.
I don't want to see anyone at the club I love who is only here as a last resort, lets cut this w****r loose and move on to a hungrier CB who wants to play for the mighty town.

Edwards, Cresswell, Smith, Delaney and Sonko should be our defence for the rest of the season.

Henderson or ward where after stupid wages not pearce.we couldn't have talked to pearce as pompey refused our bid. Maybe this is why hutchings is doing all the media work because jewels out there talking to possible targets.

Bored of this story. We're not in desperate need of him right now.

Plus he is left sided. I think we shield be looking for a right sided centre back to partner Smith, and with Delaney as back up, plus probably one more right footer, we could be set.

Where would Ward play at the moment?
Dislodge Edwards from right back and push Edwards to right midfield as skipper? Where would JET play? Up front with Chopra in place or Martin? Nice problems to have but i don't see Ward getting straight into the starting 11 on current form.
