Jewell: Teamsheet Will Reveal Leadbitter's Decision
Jewell: Teamsheet Will Reveal Leadbitter's Decision
Thursday, 26th Apr 2012 16:10

Boss Paul Jewell says fans will learn whether midfielder Grant Leadbitter will be staying at Portman Road or moving on when his contract is up this summer from Saturday’s teamsheet at Doncaster. The 26-year-old was given an extra week to consider his future with Middlesbrough understood to have offered him a contract and Brighton and Hove Albion also linked.

Jewell, who admits that the former Sunderland man now seems more likely to move on than remain at Portman Road, said: “If he’s in the team on Saturday, he’s agreed to stay. If he’s not, it’s because he’s moving elsewhere. It’s as simple as that.

“I expect to know by tomorrow. We’d love him to stay, but if he doesn’t we wish him well and we move on. It’s a big move for him, I understand that.”

The former England U21 international joined the Blues for a fee of £2.65 million from the Black Cats in the summer of 2009.

as far as i'm concerned grant should have made his mind up ages ago,is this another case of the player black mailing the club?as he should realize as well most of us wouldn't see it as the greatest player loss we've had. grant is not committed to this club so put him on the list.and in these times of hardship when we have to tighten our belts players are quibbling about how many zeros the have on their pay cheques.so stop wasting time and go mate if you feel you have to.

Last few games he has been a changed player, now was he putting himself in the shop window, in wich case good riddance, or was he playing for his place in wich case why play like that now and not earlier we will probably never know.

Who would have paid good money for him. So ineffective.
Hyam should have been playing, then we would all know much more about his potential.

If he leaves it is another terrible management decision by our joke of a club. You buy a player for nearly £3 million a let him go for nothing plus all the wages he has earnt. We should never get in a situation like this, he either signs extension when has a year left or we put him on transfer list and at least get something for him. Also these stupid 1 year deals we hand out, what long term plan is this? We have no good youngsters coming through either, we are in right mess

I think he is a decent midfielder but we always seem a bit slow with him in the side.

It's starting to look like we will need a large number of new players in the summer once again though and I think he will have to be replaced. The squad is ok but we need first teamers as the overall quality is poor hence our woeful league position

He has been an important player this year.

A high work rate.

Poor finisher.

Distribution has not resulted in real goal opportunities

He has all of the appearances but none of the results.

Some people need to be a bit realistic - both Drury and Hyam are inconsistent, Bullard who knows what, and Stevenson is as yet unproven. Where will the drive and goals come from midfield next season? Add Martin and Emmanuel-Thomas, both of whose goal per game return is poo, and we will be very short of goals for.
How many new players will we need next season?

Best news all season of he goes what a waste off space he is! Worst midfielder ever!

Grant will leave. If he gets a better offer then why not? Let's hope PJ has a replacement in mind - along with finally addressing the defence (2 x CB, 1 x RB, 1 x GK) and the strikeforce (we may only have Chopra left!).

Much for PJ to do - let's hope he has learnt from last pre-season. The last thing we want is NINE of the players signed during the season (includes loans) not being available for the 2013-14 season. We need to BUILD. PJ has not done that (with exception of Cresswell and JET).

Too little too late for me, I fear that should he sign we would see a return to the form of the majority of his contract.

This is the time to shift the dead wood.

I'm obviously watching a different game to everyone else then.

I'm not saying he sets the world alight, BUT that's not his intended role in the team. Grant is a player who gets the ball down and keeps possession for the side. The groans from the stands when he plays the ball backwards or sideways is laughable - maybe it's because there were no runners further forward, thought of that!? Rather keep hold of the ball than risk loosing it and caught on the break.

Recent performances have shown his talent. Cynics call it playing for a contract or putting himself in the shop window. Bit of a coincedance it happened whilst the team were confident and on a decent run don't you think.

Grant always seems to get the raw end of the deal from certain 'fans'. Actually watch a game and I'm sure you'll see other players give the ball away, or be less effective than him, but are too blickered.

Remember Bullard anyone? God's gift wasn't he? Where is he now........ (focus your frustrations at more worthy targets I'd suggest)

"“If he's in the team on Saturday, he's agreed to stay. If he's not, it's because he's moving elsewhere."

Things become more bizarre by the day. We now have club announcements put out as folklore.

What next " Red sky at night, Smith signing he might"

Can we have the money back please, great work Simon Clegg (A) paying over the odds for a crap player and (B) not selling him so we could recoup some of the wasted cash.

Utter joke

Decent form of late and if he wants to commit his future to our club then good on him, I want players here that want to play for us despite offers form elsewhere.

"OK lads gather around the Bingo machine. First number out, legs 11 - Lee you're in. 2&4, 24......oh bollocks Jimmy have you tampering with my balls again?"

Must be end of season with a story like this. Lol

What a drama about a below average player. I'd say he was league 2 standard at best. Another Keane disaster perpetuated by Jewell's inflated opinion of him.
