Blues Linked With Move for Watford Keeper Loach
Blues Linked With Move for Watford Keeper Loach
Friday, 1st Jun 2012 12:32

Town are reported to be considering a move for Watford keeper Scott Loach. The 24-year-old was a schoolboy with the Blues Academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family moved back to Nottingham where he had been born.

Loach, who last summer said it would be “a dream to play” for his boyhood club one day, fell out of favour at Vicarage Road during 2011/12 with Manchester United’s Tomasz Kuszczak coming in on loan.

Coincidentally, Kuszczak is top of Paul Jewell’s list of potential new keepers but Loach, who is contracted to Watford until June 2013, may well be amongst his alternatives. The former England U21 international will have worked with keeper-coach Malcolm Webster during his time at Playford Road.

In addition to his spells with the Blues and Nottingham Forest, Loach was also with Southwell United and Lincoln City's youth set-ups, while he has spent time on loan at Stafford Rangers, Morecambe and Bradford City while with Watford. A number of other clubs are also said to be monitoring Loach’s situation with the Hornets.

In addition to Kuszczak and Loach, the Blues have also been linked with Birmingham's Colin Doyle, although with sources close to the club playing any interest down, and a loan move for Manchester United's Ben Amos, while ex-Aston Villa man Brad Guzan is also believed to be on the list of possible new keepers.

Loach, who is 6ft 4in tall, can be seen in action for Town’s Academy in this short film.

I think PJ is right. Don't dive in now, wait till everyone has been signed up and then look for a loanee. Saves money and it's only a goalkeeper after all.

Would definitely take him. Would be fantastic having someone between the stick who we know is 110% committed to the ITFC cause, as both a player and a fan.

Would not be top of my list based on his form last season where he was replaced by on loan Kusczak. The previous season he did however impress so who knows Webster may bring the best out of him. If he wants to play for Ipswich this is a big plus, but that is not a reason to sign him. Believe there is better out there but will support him if he comes.

Loach had a 'relatively' bad season last yet, but the years before and his true form is blinding at times. Definitely my number one, has a true passion to play for us and will do us a brilliant service! Go on Paul this is your number 1 target!!!

If Watford brough in an on loan goalkeeper to replace Loach last season though, is he good enough to be our number one? I'd much prefer the man who replaced him, Kuszczak!

I'd take him.

We are no longer a big or particualrly attractive clubs to players' now it seems, so supporters should be realistic in the level of player we can reasonably attract. I think he fits the bill.

ALB is local and committed to Ipswich, but that doesn't in itself make him a very good keeper.

Having said that, I would welcome Loach because he does have potential to be good, despite an off season for Watford. I don't think we will be able to do much better with the lower budget we have now.

Can we realistically afford Kuszazak? I doubt it.

If Loach is a good championship keeper then why not.

Sign him up - hes a quality goalkeeper....particularly at this level....and an Ipswich Lad! BUT we were linked with him last summer, and the summer before no doubt so I wont get my hopes up too much!

I will personally drive him to Ipswich myself. Got dropped twice by us last season and has been a real liability. When he was dropped after new year and Kuszczak came in we steadily rose up the table to finish 11th.

Loach is a good shot stopper but his decision making is terrible and he has a real problem with shots from range. The defence totally lost confidence in him and he had to be dropped.

You could do considerably better than him.

Sign this guy on a 4year deal!! he will be 28 by then.. and be working and living in a place he loves and feels comfortable!! one season doesnt erradicate ability and we need to think laterally when signing players.. not just when they are playing great!!! thats a sign of a brilliant manager turn something good from something that nobody else see's!!!
