Town Closer on Kourouma
Town Closer on Kourouma
Saturday, 9th Jun 2012 09:57

Town are understood to be closer to making French-Guinean midfielder Cheick Kourouma their second signing of the summer. TWTD was first to reveal that the Blues were targeting the 19-year-old a fortnight ago.

Kourouma spent the first half of last season in Italy with Genoa CFC Primavera, Genoa’s U20 team, but is believed to have joined the Blues on trial towards the end of the campaign, on the recommendation of Ibrahima Sonko, who is also understood to have pointed Town in the direction of one or two other potential signings before his release.

The powerful central midfielder is thought to have spent time with Reading during Sonko’s spell at the Madejski Stadium.

Kourouma is a free agent but as he is below 23-years-of-age development compensation is due to Genoa and his previous clubs, Real Zaragoza and Sochaux.

Meanwhile, Lillestrøm striker Bjorn Bergman Sigurdarson looks set to join Wolves with a fee of €3 million having been agreed, according to the Norwegian media. Town were amongst a host of clubs also eyeing the 20-year-old Icelandic frontman.

If true looks like the end of Luke Hyam.

Scrap our academy Jewell, it's a waste of £1m+ a year.

it doesnt mean the end of Luke Hyam at all, they could be the future of our centre midfield together. besides if he is a better player then signing him makes sense. would you turn down signing ronaldo because it would upset the development of carson? a bit of a different scale i know!

AlfRamseyStand - A report that we MIGHT sign a player means that our academy, who produced someone we sold for over £8m just a year ago, is a waste of money??

There's nothing like a positive first comment in reaction to what should be a good news story. Instead it's twisted and used to make yet another negative comment.

Last summer people moaned when we signed older players such as Bowyer and now people moan if we sign younger players believing that it's the nail in the coffin for our current younger players. I guess you'll never please some of those who persist on putting a negative spin on everything.

On the back of signing Elliot Hewitt I for one would welcome this second signing of a young player to help build the future of our football club.

I'm looking forward to next season with hope as I think all fans should. With players like Cresswell, Smith & Hewitt we have the makings of a young promising backline for years ahead. If we can keep hold of JET we have an exciting player to watch and in the likes of Martin a hard working player who is getting better all of the time. Drury was playing really well when in the team last season and with a couple more addititions bought in quietly away from the media and other prying clubs we could have a good team going into the new season.

The comment about scrapping our youth set up are nonsense but the fact that Wycombe are scrapping their youth set up is another demonstration that the new Academy set up has been designed to benefit one set of clubs only and that's the big boys in the Premiership.

This guy is 19. Comes from French Guinea (is that Guinea or Guinea-Bissau?). He's been with 3 european clubs already (Why do we need to pay all three? surely each has to pay the former?). Why is he always on the move, who owns him? What's the story, anyone shed any light here?

Ugh more rubbish from abroad.

He could be another one for the future, but if he is good enough and earns his place he could be a regular. As for the development of Hyam and Carson this player joining town will only strenghen the team if he is good enough. Hyam has done well in the last 18 months and has come along way, as for Carson he needs to do well this season. Big thanks to Sonko!

Cheick-y little signing this could turn out to be (see what I did there).

Personally I like the negative posters on here as it makes me realise how rich and fulfilled my life is!

Hopefully great signing PJ. If we carry on signing in this fashion I am expecting an exciting season next year but probably not promotion. However 2013/14 "WILL COMETH THE MAN"!!

If some of you so called "fans" are going to come out with pointless negative one line spouts then at least give some reasoning behind it. It's embaressing reading some of the drivel on here.

Sounds like he could be a promising talent, but impossible to judge until anyone has seen him a few times. Moved around a bit already, but there could have been a number of reasons for that (if they are due compensation, then surely they wanted to keep him?)

TurinBlue - it means he is from Guinea but was most probably moved to France at a young age so is also French like most French players are! for example Viera was French-senagalise

To be fair I think Sir Alf was being ironic in his Academy comment. The fact is that with more business sense at the club, the Academy could have returned double the £8 million for Connor - Jordan Rhodes is potentially worth more and Trotter is another we let go too soon and is now interesting the big clubs. We need to think long term, not easy when a manager knows he's only got 2 seasons to get us up - to his credit Jewell seems to be building for the future by bringing in younger players with potential to add to the promising youngsters like Hyam, Carson and Smith.

Are transfer policy of recruiting young hungry players not on ridiculous wages n therefore eager too train hard n really grateful 4 a opportunity of playing 4 a good family club: much credit should go 2 Sonko even thou he was leaving the club he still wanted 2 help Jewell n Ipswich fantastic, it's sounds like he mite have identified a couple more gems: COYB!!

Over time i have red some absolutly ridiculous commetns on here, but MattRichards that is by a mile the stupidest yet!!!!
What difference does colour make to talent, pace or creativity?? Daryl Murphy does not set my pulse racing either, but he was solid, dependable and offered a different kind of outlet.
David Silva is not black, Adam Johnson, Messi, Ronaldo, Giggs, Downing, Nasri, GARETH FREAKING BALE!!!!!!! you my friend are an idiot of the highest order!

You don't go to any games or know any of our players then 'MattRichards4England'?

Bizarre comment.

I appreciate that this is a huge generalisation but players who come through the French and Italian youth systems tend to be more comfortable on the ball than those who progress through British academies. A high octane box to box midfielder with an ability to keep possession would very much be welcomed at Portman Road imo

Well MattRichards, if all the support for the team is as negative as yours, that will go a long way to ensuring you're right and we don't make top six. And with regard to the blak comment, agree with daniel. You must be Polish. Kourouma sounds similar to Kiwomya so sign him up on that basis :)

I for one hurt myself or more than one occassion since xmas when JET got the ball, cut inside and lashed a shot inches over the bar or in, prompting me to jump out of my seat and sit back down without folding it out again!!

MattRichards4England, who are you? Lenny 'all I talk about is black people' Henry?!

You my friend are an idiot, but I can't see why you would have any objection to Town making this signing, Cheick Kourouma is as black as they come...

Also, on a side note, let's get Ibrahima Sonko in as a talent scout!!

TimmyH added 11:50 - Jun 9
Don't know anythng at all about Kourouma and no doubt not does anybody else on here either, but I was thinking just the other day it's been along time since we signed a player from abroad, young and hopefully with potential. Even being a free agent I wonder how much he would be worth at this moment anyway - nothing to lose by the sounds of it.
