Town Set to Land Chambers
Town Set to Land Chambers
Wednesday, 4th Jul 2012 16:50

Town appear increasingly likely to complete the signing of former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers, who underwent a medical and held talks at Portman Road yesterday. The 26-year-old returned home to Nottingham last night with rumours circulating that the move would break down with Leeds and a number of other clubs also believed to be interested.

However, it appears Leeds, whose takeover is believed to be close, have not firmed up their interest in the former Northampton man, who is available on a free transfer, his Forest deal having expired at midnight on Saturday.

As per reports earlier today, it seems Chambers returned home merely to take his time before making what is a big decision.

While a deal may not be done in time for Chambers to join the squad for the first day of pre-season training tomorrow, we understand the deal could well be completed by the end of the week.

Whilst Town fans are understandably nervous about not signing Chambers like previous other players that have toured PR, had their medical, discussed terms only to sign for another club, I think the so called "local" rag has a lot to answer for (yet again) for running a story that heavily implies the player has turned his back on Town.

Seems they will stoop to any level in order to sell their grimey rag and more importantly puruse their now daily misson to wind up the Town fans. WHY ??

going to get slated but im almost to the point where evans should go, since his moneys pumped in we have failed poorly in all manner on and off the pitch,we were a step ahead but everyones being brought out these days by bigger investors we are going backward rapidly in finance, only saviour possibly that the long term financial criterea works and some of these other clubs may go to the wall but i doubt it they will be sold on there are bigger investors out there and we are an attractive club if there is no action soon we will either be stuck for ever in the championship or worse be relegated and then struggle to get back not all teams do a norwich or southampton and in the saints case had plenty of money to spend and loads in reserve we seem to have neither or a owner brave enough to really chase his dreams sorry if i offend but entilted to an opinion

billlm i totaly agree with your statement i think that ME is not giving us enough money to work with to get the players we need either he fuels for money into us or get out rather than mess us around.
As for Chambers we are so close but anything can happen leeds could swoop up and catch him at the last minute its not over till its over but we are very close keep pussing to get this one Clegg!!!

Billlm you do raise some valid points, but I think the dream chasing led us down the proverbial creek before the ME bailout. I for one would love to see more money flooded into ITFC from ME, but completely support the need for financial stability. We are no longer able to gamble. In all honesty I would find a club run like Man City et al so hollow and shameful. The last thing I would want is a load of mercenaries wearing our beloved blue and whites

noticed he didn't score any goals last season in any competition after his player of the year for them the season before, I just hope we haven't signed another player too late before he's peaked at least he's not costing us. Other than that I wish him all the best if he does come here.

Oh, please may this bloke join us. We want, as PJ must want, some good players in for the new season. Big disappointment that neither of the three from Portsmouth joined us. What is it? Are we not fancied as a club or is it because we are so far away from anywhere, stuck out on the east coast? This is a lovely part of the country. Really concerned that not many new faces have been recruited. 5 or 6 were indicated a few weeks ago. Still, fingers crossed & let's be patient

I do not believe it is solely a case of the money. It is the whole direction of the club. Keane was a terrible mistake, one which must rest with Clegg - who happily admitted that he was still learning the job a year after he had been appointed.

We have been failing is so many other areas off field as well as on field. Over 10,000 empty seats and yet no sense the club is, or concerned about, doing anything to fill them - bar painting the turnstiles.

Clegg is not the man for the job. There is no area in the club where we have improved - in fact we have consistently slipped back in terms of the squad, the attendances, the income ...even the U18's. Sure we will make the odd good signing, we will enjoy some great wins, but overall there are only blips in a very slow, downward slide.

Next season we will up against 3 clubs coming down from the PL with more money in parachute payments than we have in total income, at least two good clubs coming up from League 1 plus the likes of Cardiff, B'pool, Middlesboro and Brighton. Cobbling up a smaller squad with freebies and other clubs unwanted players doesn't suggest the right strategy to be battling against that lot - nor does it suggest the owner is too bothered if we aren't, either.

Worrying times, I fear.

I for one have no problem with how ME is running the club, so we will not pay over the odds, so what, the club will fortunately go on. Norwich did not have any overly paid players neither did Southampton and went up with lower league players above those who came down from the premier league. I am fed up with players holding our club and this game to ransom. Pay for success yes, but what has chambers achieved? Anyone, nothing, prove your worth come play for a club that has its financial house in order and the rewards will come should you be successful. Rant over.

You outlook is pretty gloomy considering a ball has yet to be kicked (even in training)!

Lighten up and enjoy, we haven't lost a game yet!

Surely this is what football is all about?!

Sorry won't believe this till signed and sealed, most players don't bother having medicals if they ain't gonna sign. Can never understand why clubs wait nhy on 2 months to try to sign players out of contract, then when it appears they set to sign for someone ,another club comes in! That's pro football for you!

He will join you, do ok, and you'll all wonder what the fuss was about. Watch out for the errors, lack of pace and finger pointing. Usually does the simple stuff well and can be a threat from corners. Good luck and stop stressing.

Keane was Clegg's fault - two days after he was himself appointed? Think you're misremembering!

OR.......is it just the case that he wanted to see if Leeds or whoever else were going to make an offer and now that it seems they don't Ipswich Town will have to do??? I don't like to be negative but its hard to be anything else in recent times as a Town fan, I have the upmost respect to those who remain positive on here but my spirit was broken long ago.

I find it strange that PJ not there and the Major must have gone early to be at the Olympic jolly in Peterborough and on telly(says it all about his commitment to ITFC).Would have thought that Luke Chambers medical could have been arranged so that the big guns were available, unless ME stood in for them!
Players used to have medicals followed by signing and media appearance in afternoon;so unlike many on here I wont be confident until contract signed and registered at Lytham.
Perhaps those that seem so sure he is 'ours' can tell me of one player we have landed since Simon Clegg became CEO,where we have been in serious competition with a rival club;as I cant think of anybody?

h32 - the thing is you dont see it as it really is. You see it only from your self placed pedestal in anti PJ/SC/ME land, where only the negative reside, trying to compare football in general to the game of 30 years ago.
Some of us prefer to live in reality, and also prefer to hold our comments and criticism until all the facts are available and not just base them on rumour.
