Chambers Signs for Town Monday, 9th Jul 2012 14:24
Town have confirmed the signing of former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers on a three-year deal. The 26-year-old free agent was at Portman Road this morning to tie up the detail of his move, having been at the club last Tuesday for a medical and to look at the stadium and training facilities.
Chambers told the club site: "I'm delighted to be an Ipswich Town player. I spoke to a few people in the game that know the manager and Ipswich and they had nothing but good words to say. Coming here was a no-brainer for me."
Manager Paul Jewell added: "There were a few clubs in for Luke but I always felt confident we would get him and I'm delighted we have."
Chambers is Town’s second signing of the summer after Macclesfield’s Elliott Hewitt, who joined for a fee of £250,000 plus top-ups at the end of May, also signing a three-year deal.
Town have announced a press conference at 4pm this afternoon.

blues1, I am generally optimistic and not a PJ out person (apart from PJ needs Duncan maybe, his posts are without rationale or logic) but it's amazing how fickle we can be. If Chambers had gone somewhere else how many people would have said, oh well Forest didn't rate him so no loss, probably nearly as many who would criticise PJ and Clegg for having missed out. Most of the fans who came on here didn't seem to be criticising him in a bitter way, it all seemed genuine but as you say he had been player of the season and runner up. Only one problem is he has a go at fans for booing, I take it nobody has told him some sections of the crowd are good at that here, myself not included.

By the way,If we signed Cheryl Cole as a fitness coach ,we might atract more players.Only a thought.

I agree that its a good signing - welcome to the club Luke. Dont know why but I get the feeling this could be a good season for us. Just have a belief that with a new qualtity GK we could just click. Really looking forward to the season's start.

Keogh from coventry would be good addition. Heaton Loach supple two out of that 3 would sort the keeper crisis. Davies or fuller up front wiyh murphs providing the deals suit the club i would be confident of a top 6 challenge.

Great news, any new defender should be welcomed with open arms! I don't know why people are moaning about a player who actually wants to sign/play for us! Some people need to get a reality check, we are not a top flight team, & lets be honest, we have become only an average Championship club, with the likes of Brighton able to beat us to a signature! So stop moaning & lets welcome this guy. "Welcome Luke, sure you'll do us proud!"

Irishtim, you mention Supple as a few others have done but would he not be a bit rusty, I feel he would need a good 3 months to get match sharp again (if he were to even consider a return to football) because the line between being match sharp and not is so fine at pro level.

Man City have released Stuart Taylor, would love to see him down at Portman Road between the sticks. Go on PJ you know it makes sense.

Welcome, Luke Chambers. If you read this, there are only a handful of idiots on here [ those who are berating you for joining us for a start ], the rest of us hope your three year stay [ maybe longer ] is enjoyable and productive for all concerned.

Shane supple is one of the nicest people I have ever read an interview of, but top-class he ain't and secondly he gave up football because it has become only about money. There is no passion or loyalty to the actual game. Maybe klug would be able to convince him otherwise, but that would be it.

Great News! BTW, is that Lukes son holding the town shirt? He looks about 30 in the top picture, and about 18 in the one holding the shirt. Wait till he tastes the ITFC pies, he'll be back to the photo in the top.

@buryblue77. Shane is playing Gaelic footie week in week out. Sharpness & Fitness should be ok. I just think he is worth a chance as he is a free signing knows the club & i think still has unfinished business. Im from Cork in Ireland But i blame that W....r Roy for driving Shane away from the club among others. Walters rhodes Stead Garvan D. wright.

Nice one, welcome on board Luke. I live and work in Nottingham and have a friend who is a Forest season ticket holder and in his eyes Luke struggled last season with the weight of the Captaincy and other issues happening at the Club however prior to this he was a good, solid no nonsense defender who just got his foot in, won the ball and cleared his lines. Sounds exactly what we have been crying out for to me.

Excelled signing. Really pleased to pick up a free transfer who is good quality and at a good age. Just the type of cb we have missed since Macauly left.

Irishtim, yeah I see your point, fitness probably wont be an issue, maybe a few weeks with Malcolm and he should be sorted. Shame he quit, takes some doing though when you think about giving up thousands of pounds a week, just goes to show, not all footballers are money grabbers.
Bezzer added 16:21 - Jul 9
Really can't get excited about our transfers since Jewell took over ! The club has no money and no ambition and if everyone thinks freebies are the answer then think again. If we really wanted any of the players who have turned us down in the last year then we could have had them - money talks and we don't have any!
