Target Davies Linked With Blackburn Talks
Target Davies Linked With Blackburn Talks
Wednesday, 11th Jul 2012 10:24

Town target Steve Davies is reported to be in talks with Blackburn Rovers. The 24-year-old frontman has confirmed that he will be on his way out of Derby this summer having turned down a new contract at Pride Park for unspecified family reasons.

Davies, who Blues manager Paul Jewell brought to Derby from Tranmere during his time as boss with the East Midlands club, recently said that he was looking for a club in the south, although nothing was confirmed: “My family are actually from London, so I think it will be down south, but not 100% just yet.”

The 6ft 1in tall striker, who has a year left on his Derby contract, was recently reported to have confirmed that the Blues were amongst the clubs interested in him, while Leeds and Bristol City were mentioned in connection with him earlier in the summer. At the weekend, the local Derby press claimed the Blues were still the frontrunners for Davies's signature.

Injuries - including a fractured skull last October - have limited him to only 55 starts and 39 sub appearances in his four years with the Rams, in which time he has scored 23 goals, 12 of them during 2011/12.

Blackburn seem to be following PJ's path of last year, sign old men!

Davis hardly fits that profile. Who's want to play for them anyhow!

Remember the Chambers back to Forest stories last week folks.

Learn to ignore speculation.

Think this is just rumours, cannot be true as he wants to come down south. I am pretty confident he will sign for Town. Would be a welcomed signing!

I know PJ's no genius but if you prefer Steve Keane over him you've got to be a bit of a numpty.

As BlueBailey24 says. Rumours. Lets not get carried away. Would be a good signing for us imo. Would love to hear something positive on the keeper front.

Alanmahon2011 do you have anything good to say. Even when a family had a sad loss u manage to give a stupid comment. Grow up.

I'd be more worried if Davies wasn't linked with other clubs to be honest. I've read a few articles/blogs from Derby fans on this guy and they all suggest that he has the same attributes:

"a striker with many strings to his bow — technique, passing, heading, shooting from range, hold-up play, free kicks, a great penalty-taker. Granted, he lacks pace and isn't the most powerful striker in the division, but there is no reason why he can't become one of the best number nines at this level — fitness allowing."

I think he could play in the Murphy role in a 4-2-3-1 or up front with Chopra in a 4-4-2. If we didn't get him then I think we would need to sign both Judge and Fuller

Probably got his atlas upside down ! Would like to see him here but I agree with others in that would be happier to see some news about signing a GK.

Hmmm, if this is true Derby must be wondering whether the 'closer to London' line was just a 'its not you, its me' comment! I'd much rather we signed Baldock from West Ham anyway...

If you read some comments on the Blackburn forums they think they are relegation rather than promotion bound with their current set up.

Lets hope if he does end up here that he knows which direction he's shooting at.

@Irishtim i saw that Baldock said he wants to stay and fight at West Ham but after seeing they might get Andy Carroll on loan i'm sure he'd take the hint to come on loan! As for Davies, it's pretty common knowledge now that he's only moving so he can be down south for his family, Blackburn is no more southern than Derby!

I'd like to see Baldock here too and I remember PJ quoted as saying recently that he may go into the loan market if he feels it's right and that he was interested in Premiership players. He then said that he might have to wait until their pre-season is well underway so that the managers can decide if the players are going to figure during the coming Premiership season. Previous speculation that PJ's mate Sam Allardyce might let us have Baldock (or Maynard) on a season-long loan would make this a possibility - just a thought.

Blackburn must be closer to London than I thought - geography was never my strongest subject at school, cant be his either!

Think there are some negotations on the fee, we have offered £600K and they want £1m. Blackburn probably have more cash than us.

Either way he will probably be at Portman Road for the first game of the season

This guy is after a bigger money elsewhere and that is why he's leaving Derby. The genuine personal reason is just a smokescreen. He say its not 100% that he is moving south which means he could move to the north/north west as well. This vagueness makes it possible for him to move to Blackburn or Leeds etc and he will just say that he never said for certain he was moving south blah blah blah.
