Jewell: Loach Was Target Last Year
Jewell: Loach Was Target Last Year
Thursday, 19th Jul 2012 17:23

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed he tried to sign new addition Scott Loach when he first joined the Blues in January 2011. The 24-year-old joined Town on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth season earlier today after the clubs agreed a £150,000 fee.

Jewell said: "I have followed Scott's career for a while now and we're obviously delighted to have him here at Ipswich Town.

"I actually tried to buy him when I first took over here but Watford were looking for a fee in the millions and we didn't take it any further.

"We have been monitoring his situation during the summer and we feel we have signed a very good keeper in what is a good deal for the club. I know he's a boyhood Ipswich fan as well so I'm sure our supporters will take to him."

Paulo.... have you seen his form in recent years! Watford wanted him off the books.

Great bit of business by the club, Very well done by all concerned!! This signing along with Chambers increases the hope of a good season massively!! Can't wait for the first game now

The fee was so low because nobody else were prepared to take a chance on him.

By all accounts his form has somewhat tailed off recently so he should be well at home here.

ITFC ESSEX ....... Some Watford fans have been on his back. He lost confidence and therefore lost form. Someone said that a move away was just what he needed - now it is down to US to support him and give him back that confidence (and therefore enjoy that form) and of course to PJ and the whole management structure (including the dressing room) to lift him back to where he was form wise. (Same goes for Chambers btw) (and Chopra) etc. WE HAVE A BIG PART TO PLAY NOT LEAST ON HERE WITH OUR CRITICISMS, even if we think it is justified.

On the same logic if ALB needing to go elsewhere for a fresh start where people don't get onto him every time he sneezes? Or will he be happy as number 2 ? Maybe - but then where does our second senior keeper come from if he "needs" to move on ?

A great signing and a steal at £150k.
I am sure it will not take long for his form to return and let's hope he is our number one for many seasons to come. Welcome back Scott

V exciting news we our close too another signing according to S.Clegg at the press conference, the club rarely comes out with statements like that so we must b really close too another potential signing exciting times ahead I'd love it to be Keogh or Baldock

@ITFCEssex / Hugo_Chavez

Have you got any stats to back that up?

Just wondering since he was their first choice keeper for such a long time 'till Kuszczak took over and then the number of additional points gained by Watford under Kuszczak's 10 game stint wasn't remarkably different to Loach's (4 points in 10 games).

@fussysnake
I believe he only accepts people he knows on twitter. If you just search for him he will appear.

Looking forward to this season, happy with those we have had arrive at the club and hoping those who were already here have a better season than last.

Onwards and upwards!

Great to have him at the club. Hopefully he will be given the chance to show us how good he can be. Forget the Watford fans. Its hard to play well if your own fans are on your back all the time.

Great deal, so Jewell wanted him last year but they wanted too much. Just shows you've got to be patient and then you can more likely get your guy for the right price. Just hope we don't have to wait a year for everyone :L we done Jewell and co

Great signing - Welcome back.
Seems like a bargain price as well - perhaps Watford feel guilty about how much they were paid for Priskin.

Form is temporary, Class is permanent.

Really excited to have Scott back at Ipswich, let's give him a chance and I'm sure he can be our No.1 for years to come.

Good now get kello in and then we can push on from there hopefully with davies next plus keogh and a left winger we will be in a great position to push on next season and try and finish in the top 6.

Keepers are always cheaper for some strange reason but this is still a bargain basement signing. He has the desire of this there is no doubt and can anyone tell me what other club in the whole of the English league have their top two keepers on their books from the acedemy and are local lads? ... Phil?

Screw Watford fans 1 bad season does not make a bad player. Football is all about confidence as are most sports. Welcome home Scott. Onwards and upwards looking forward to the new season. A few more signings and I believe we have a good chance next year. Btw Keogh has just signed for Derby. COYB

Loach is a very good keeper, young,hungry for success. All keepers go through a wobbly patch, we've seen world class keepers do this. The move here will hopefully bring the best out of him. Welcome Scott may you be here for many years to come
