Town are in talks with former England international Emile Heskey. The 34-year-old is out of contract having left Aston Villa earlier in the summer.
A national newspaper broke the news of the Blues' interest in the veteran striker earlier today, with TWTD sources more locally backing up the report.
Last night, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that Town are close to making their fourth signing of the summer with a big frontman in the Heskey mould very much amongst his targets.
Heskey started his career with Leicester City before moving on to Liverpool, Birmingham, Wigan and then finally Villa.
Jewell previously signed 6ft 2in tall Heskey whilst at Wigan during the summer of 2006.
was never a big fan until he helped destroy germany when england beat them 5-1 in germany, ledgend and a defenders nightmare, Goalkeepers love him cos of his shooting, but defender hate him cos he is awesome
Please I hope this is a bad joke.....! He is a lump and an injury prone muppet! He has got disaster written all over him.... Quite possibly the most overrated numpty who has forever lived off his Leicester career.... He's done eff all since then!
Norfolk mighy horse. Just tell the scummers what I do is all they do is buy leeds players and if I'm right they only finished 1 place above us last year so all there doing is buying no better players then what we have they have no ambition won't spend and that's why they will get relegated
Firstly, he is not and never will be a prolific goal scorer. Thats not his game, never has been) so you can list as many stats as you like about goals scored. BUT Michael Owen was always very vocal about positive effect playing alongside Heskey had on his game. He may not score goals but his strike partners do! Depending on the wages he could give that other option in games where you need to grind out a result. Chopra could feed off him i'm sure!
Also with regards to the "too old" comments. If you look at our current squad it is now very young so maybe we need a splash more experience in the mix. A former England international too.
Watching Heskey flick on / fall over / chase a punt up field from defence is not something I want to spend £33 on. Surely it is aspiration and energy that we need to add to the squad not lethargy - likely to end in a Bowyer type situation
To all those who think this would be a bad idea I think should have a word with yourself. He's not going to be coming to Championship to earn big money he's already done that. Hopefully he's coming down to enjoy his last playing days. I'm sure it was as the Japan/Korea world cup Brazil said the only England player that would get into their team was Heskey!! He can be a beast and wins a lot of free kicks in dangerous areas. If he wants big wages (for us: 15k) then hell no. But if he wants to come to play football he could add another 10 goals to Chopra's tally and knock in the odd 10 himself
My bro's a Leicester fan. He's been wanting Heskey to go back there for YEARS. In all the times I've talked to him about it, I never ever conceived for a second the possibility that Emile might end up with US instead.
MAJOR doubts as to the footballing merits of this move, but a big part of me just thinks this would be so hysterical that I want it to happen.
I think Heskey could be a very good signing to hold up play ,win headers ,link the play and would compliment Chopra well with bags of experience .
Those providing stats would want to check Jason Roberts also ,he only scored 24 goals in the last 6 seasons at Blackburn in the premiership but was excellent dropping down a league ?
You dont play in the premier league for 18 seasons and get 62 England caps by being a nobody ,sign him up
@duncan. If heskey wants to play football he can train down the rec with my kids, they'd show him how rubbish he is. I wont deny that he was good at Leicester but really he's done nothing since apart from fluke being in the right place at right time. I would be majorly disappointed if he came here :(
I am reminded of an old joke, which I have reworked slightly.
Paul Lambert is taking his first pre-season training session at Aston Villa and gathers his new troops in the dressing room, when suddenly he notices a large "Richard the Third".
"Who's s*** on the floor?" shouts Lambert.
"Me boss" pipes up Emile Heskey, "but I'm fantastic in the air"
