U21s in Action at Bristol City

Luke Hyam, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Josh Carson, Jack Ainsley, Joe Whight, Chieck Kourouma and Ronan Murray are in a Town U21 squad facing Bristol City’s second string at Ashton Gate this afternoon (KO 1pm).

Also in the party which travelled to the west country yesterday afternoon are academy youngsters Byron Lawrence, Amir Berkane, Mark Timlin, Michael Crowe, Kyle Hammond, Jack Marriott and Jacob Marsden.

Murray was sent off for a headbutt in last week’s 1-0 victory over Brighton but his three-match ban, which only applies at U21 level, doesn’t come into force until September 30th.

Prior to the Seagulls game, the U21s had lost 2-1 at Swansea and beaten Cardiff 6-0 at home.

bluefeast added 10:12 - Sep 24 Pointless , these lads need coaching and development and friendly local games ,not a 10 hour round trip. I just wish the youth groups focussed on ball retention as opposed to results. Fact is the result is meaningless anyway ,but the improvement of players via modern techniques of coaching is worth its weight in gold.

RichOBlue added 10:37 - Sep 24 Bluefeast, these lads train all week and the majority is based around ball retention always being told the importance of not giving the ball away. The expierience of travelling up the day before a game spending the night awayfrom home, then playing at Ashton Gate is hardly 'pointless' in there development as a young proffesional footballer surely??

bluefeast added 12:49 - Sep 24 RichOblue , i agree with your point , however look at the weak points of all our youngsters that break into the 1st team ,none of them have a good touch , none of them are quick footed , none of them make a pass and then support the ball. Ive seen French and Spanish youth teams over the years that are streets ahead.

bluefeast, your right they are well ahead of us but thats just british football we've only just begun trying to catch up with them. To be fair our current under 18's are playing much better football than previous years but there a group that has been together a couple of years now and hopefully we'll get 5 or 6 at once which helps as there on the same wave length when it comes to pass and move football...............then we need a manager brave enough to trust them, bryan klug??

RossHolmes added 14:20 - Sep 24 What is up with jewell? spends most of preseason highlighting the importance of youth in the squad, suddenly hyam (whos been one of our better performers) has been put in the u21's and replaced by some carthorse, what a way to kill his confidence, he's just pissing all over him!

Hyam being in the squad just stinks of a manager who cant manage , one min hes brilliant then hes dropped, what message does that send out. What a joke ..
