Higginbotham Would Welcome Longer Stay
Wednesday, 26th Sep 2012 10:40

New loanee Danny Higginbotham says if all goes well he’d welcome staying at Town beyond his initial one-month spell. The 33-year-old joined the Blues on Friday and made his debut as a late sub in Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Charlton.

Higginbotham told the club site: “We have to see how things go but if the opportunity was there to extend the loan then I’d definitely look at it.

“The most important thing for me is to play games and Ipswich have given me the chance to do that.

“Being left out of the 25-man squad by Stoke made the decision to go out on loan easier because I’m not really a player who wants to sit around and pick up my wages.”

Football League clubs can take players on loan for a maximum of 93 days outside the transfer window.

He says he talked to a couple of former Town men before deciding to come to Portman Road: “I spoke to Jon Walters and Danny Collins, who have obviously both played here, and they spoke highly of the club and I’m delighted to be here.”

Higginbotham's Stoke contract is up at the end of this season.

Anyone know why it's only a one month deal? Does PJ expect to pick up someone better? Is Higginbotham an injury risk?

Its a one month deal as PJ will be gone within that time. Clear as day his days are numbered so i guess the owner only wishes to sanction short term in order to avoid the player not being the new managers cup of tea. On the other hand lets hope we go on a 10 game unbeated run with at least 6 wins in there. That way confidence from all would be far higher than todays depressed state.

If this guy can steady the rocky defence his welcomed to stay till the end of the season :-)

Let be positive for once a good quality experience player what harm can that do?

Higginbotham says: He'd welcome staying at Town

I am beginning to question his current mental state

With most of 30 something's, they tend to be out injured (History show that it's often)

Jewell signed him on without a trial,
which questions why he keeps having these other 30 something's having to endure one

Surely it doesn't take a week to decide upon a player, and whether he has got what the side is obviously lacking in.

We have OSMAN here at the club, (Ex England)
Surely with his knowledge of the game, he would be better employed with sorting this shambles out, than being used in his current role.

Nice comments, just what Keith Andrews and Danny Collins said.

You can look forward to playing alongside them.

....Doh!

I would start him against Barnsley on sat just to see what he gives.
He can't be any worse than what we have St the moment.
Sorry Smith u would be the player I would take out. You need to earn your place back.
4.4.2 would be good to see as well. Murphy playing up front where he would normally play and Martin back on the wing where he normally plays. I would give Carson a start for Jet and Hyam a start for Drury.

Team

Loach
Edwards
Chambers
HigginBottom
Cresswell
Martin
Hyam
Lulongo

Slightly different tack but did anyone else see this quote from Mancini last night:

"We didn't play well and this is my fault because I am the manager,Now I shall find the solution quickly as we have important games."

Spot the difference !!!

I wouldn't welcome a longer stay, he's useless.

Albeit a player that does not have a long term future he is better than Smith is at the present moment and as such should be straight in the team for Saturday, brings experience and certainly a commanding prescence, this is not to say Smith will not be back (even though i have never rated him) just to say that he does look apathetic and in need of a break. Will also add competition as at the present moment the back 4 are under no pressure for their place in the team, the quicker Hewitt gets back to add additional competition the better. It is the added pressure that invigorates players and at pressure we have none.
That said not sure what is happening up fron, definitly need some impetus to encourage what we have, maybe a loan striker if we can get one.

Its nice to see someone actrully wants to stay here for a longer period of time instead of running for the hills, a little bit of stability can only be good for the team even if its only for another month or so.

theipswichking5 - what makes you think he is useless? I have looked at a Stoke City forum and they are all saying how good he is. Still, no point letting something positive get in the way of a good moan is there?

Everyone is asking why only a month it could be have him a month then do a couple of games without him where jewel feels smith would be ready to return. Then bring him back and the 93 days would be up in January

Phil, I hate to be picky, but his quote actually says that if the chance to extend was there, he would "look at it", which is a little way short of welcoming it.

I rather think that if results don't pick up soon, he will not have a decision to make!

Has he signed as a centre back or left back? Never seen him play centre half in his career! Chambers and Higgo in the centre against Barnsley?

people keep knocking this guy.Have you seen him play ? He hasnt played much for stoke lately but so what there isupson huth shawcross etc to get past to get a game. If you think that lot are no good then higgin isnt any good aswell but lets see him play first. i think he will be decent for us

I think he is what we need, a proper defender, wont pull out of a tackle and will do the basics well. will relish the challenges of playing against some of the forwards in the division rather than be intimidated by them which perhaps our defenders are at the minute. Think his experience will be vital and strikes me as the type of player who will organise a defence and tell them when to push up ect..

I think now is the time for town players to step up & reward the town fans, especially those who go to games week in week out. I am not in that category but does'nt make me any less a town fan. Our full backs this season have been below par. Edwards in a sense i feel sorry for as he is a winger imo. Loach so far ok. Chambers same. Tommy Below standards required. Cressy poor. Lukey good when played. lougo Good at start but slipping. Lee not doing it prop has something to do with contract. JET waste of space so far. Murph very dissapointed in you fellow irishman pullur socks up. Chops cmon man you can do alot better. Scots so far you have played well. Andy Drury dont rest on your 2nd half of last season. As for the players i've excluded did in step up and give everything. Now all players wearing the shirt lets start kicking ass & winning games. Give this clubs great name back so once again we can be proud. Now over to u pj.
