Town Sign QPR's Campbell
Friday, 5th Oct 2012 12:05

Town have completed the signing of QPR striker DJ Campbell on a three-month loan. Earlier today, TWTD revealed that the 30-year-old had arrived at the club to put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him at Portman Road until Saturday 5th January.

As reported last week, the Blues failed to land Campbell prior to the Barnsley game as cover for the sidelined Paul Taylor and Michael Chopra with the striker expected to join Blackpool. But despite protracted negotiations that deal didn't go through.

Having been a youth player with QPR and Aston Villa, much-travelled Campbell began his senior career in non-league with the likes of Chesham, Stevenage Borough, Billericay Town and Yeading before moving into the Football League with Brentford and then the Premier League with Birmingham.

Since then, the Londoner has represented Leicester, Derby and Blackpool (twice on loan, once permanently), before returning to QPR again last summer for a fee of £1.2 million, signing a two-year deal.

Having rarely been involved with Rangers, the former England C international had long been tipped for a fourth spell with the Seasiders.

Campbell, who will wear the Town number five shirt, may well go straight into the team facing Cardiff live on Sky tomorrow evening with Chopra perhaps left on the bench after this week's off-field issues.

Good signing, pace, movement, scores goals and offers something entirely different to what we have at the moment.
Well done and COYB.

Right, after getting that off my chest

Agreed could be a good signing, but let's look at the facts here for a moment chaps,

We have half a squad of loanees,Higginbottham,N'Daw,DJ.Campbell,Luongo,Murphy,Wellens and probably Moshni later on today.

Where oh Where are we going.

It breaks me to think how far we have fallen, and we still have further to fall under this managerial regime.

According to Wikipedia he's already scored 8 goals for us without playing a game?

My god we're easy to please nowadays, Jewell & Clegg really have got us clutching at straws when it comes to excitement!

Some of these comments are ridiculous...Real Striker, Knows where the net is & scores goals for fun!!!

One look at his stats shoots those comments down in flames!

Hope you do well DJ but your not what I call a prolific scorer or a quality striker and that's been a realist.

I can see the logic in this one. This is how the emergancy loan window should be used, to bring in cover for an injured player, but the Higgingbottom loan was down to poor planning and the Wellens signing was pure panic.

Although i can't criticise for this addition, you can't look past the fact that we now have 6 players in on loan, players keep having to get use to playing in the same team, there's no stability, do half a team of loan players really care where we are next season?
Whether you blame Jewell, Clegg or Evans or all 3, there is something seriously wrong with how the club is being run, untill that's resolved we will not make progress.

As I posted elsewhere needs must and if these loan signings help keep us up then that will do for me. Supporters who dreamt we may go up or be in the play offs were far too optimistic as we are way down the pecking order with regard to financial clout. We are a championship Club at best in hopefully the short term. For the long term we firstly have to stay in this division this season and then hope our youngsters come through and Mr Evans continues to invest. Best of luck to the loanees as far as I'm concerned you are Ipswich Town be it short or long term.

the way i see it is these players want to play football and be part of something, however this might not work out for all the loanees there is sure to be some positives from these short term contracts it down to these players to work hard and impress the club and fans

Loanees from out of England do not count in player numbers ( loanees starting ) and some of these loanees are with a permanent switch in January or for next season . Murphy is out of contract at the end of the season , N'Daw will also be free to move and with a bit of luck D J will want to sign a deal in January , as he will be out of contract at the seasons end . Some of the loanees have already stated a wish to make moves permanent ( Higginbotham and Mohsni ) so lets keep our thinking regarding loanees sensible and not get overly sensitive about their fighting for the club !!!!

Potentially a terrific signing this, his pace and movement will be a big problem for Championship defences. Our team now suddenly looks to have depth but its up to the players to go and show how good they really are starting from tomorrow. I know people are annoyed that they're loans but at the moment that doesn't really bother me, PJ has got to try and do something because our squad in my opinion was not good enough previous to these aditions, If we were to just play our young players every week I would really fear relegation and thats not a criticism of them it is just my humble opinion. Lets hope for a win tomorrow.

A roster of strikers if he was made a perminant edition would look like this.
DJ Campbell, M Chopra, J Scotland, P taylor..... and Murray, lose N Ellington of course.

Damn i would be happy with that!

Oh and Murphy for the height option too.

Our young up and comings will surely benefit from these additions thus making them better prspects for the longterm good of the club. Very positive day for the club and fans i feel

Yeah true that, just hope they dont get to downhearted though because from personal experience at a lower level you can feel a little deflated in this kind of situation. So Jewell has to keep them on their toes and let them know how valuable they are.

He still needs to fit them into the first whenever he can for experiance &like you say keeping them keen and selfworth going but with the new additions dosn't have to over exspose them like i feel young t smith has been causing him self doubt the pressure now off will serve him well

Can't say I'm disappointed with this signing - if he plays to his ability scoring a few goals at this level 'should' be a breeze for him.
