Jewell Considering Town Future After Hull Defeat
Saturday, 20th Oct 2012 17:37

Boss Paul Jewell says he will think over his Town position over the weekend after the Blues stretched their run of games without a win to 10 at Hull City. Jewell will consult with club owner Marcus Evans and other people close to him as he assesses what he feels is best not just for himself but for the club.

With banners calling for his exit again on show amongst the Town support, he says he empathises with where those supporters are coming from: “The fans of this football club, more than most, travel every other week huge distances and they’re not happy. I fully understand that and I accept the criticism that comes my way. I’ve had it before.

“What I want to do is what’s best for the club. I don’t want to quit but at the same time I have to realise what the best thing is for Ipswich, not just Ipswich, me as well, and the team. I have a lot of thinking to do over the weekend and we’ll see where it takes us.”

He says he considers where things are after each match, not just at the difficult times: “I think every game, whether we win a game or lose the game.

“It isn’t just one occasion. We have to look at the bigger picture for Ipswich and think ‘Am I the man to take them forward?’ and if I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people who are close to me, if I decide the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that.

“I don’t want to do that, I’ve got to be honest and I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with Marcus and honest with people close to me.”

As regards the game itself, he said: “Losing a late goal has been the bane of us really, but I think Hull deserved to win. I don’t think anyone who was at the game can say they didn’t deserve to win it.

“They put 31 crosses into the box and we didn’t stop any and they deservedly won the game. I’m not hiding behind anything.

“Late goals are very difficult to take, but the reason we concede late goals is because we allow crosses to come into the box.”

Hull boss Steve Bruce was relieved but felt his side deserved their victory: “For me it was the right result, we were the only ones who were trying to win it.

"I can understand Ipswich trying to hang on with the position they were in and scoring in the last couple of minutes is always great.”

There has to be a COMPLETE change at Portman Road in the next few weeks/days, this has to include a change of Owner. As much as people like to say that Paul Jewell has to go, which is very true, since Marcus Evans has taken over his decision on managers has been abysmal. He firstly got rid of Jim Magilton who had done absolutely nothing wrong, and since then he's brought in Roy Keane (one of the worst Ipswich managers i've ever seen) and now Paul Jewell who, as someone said earlier, sorted out Keane's mess, but now he's done nothing. His signings have been woeful, his decision making of line ups and formations is shocking and, most importantly; inconsistent.
How to resolve this: get rid of owner and manager, get in two people in those positions that really care about the club, Mick Mills perhaps for manager? Then, get rid of all the useless loan signings and play the youngsters who have been at the club since the start and have played with eachother, know eachother etc. If this means that we go down to league one for a season then so be it, but otherwise this club will go nowhere in the next 5 years. The premier league is the target, and with the current system that is in place, we won't get there for the next 20 years minimum.
I don't know if people at the club read these articles and comments, but if they do, please take on board everything that is said here because, at the end of the day, this club is a family and the fans make up a huge part of that family. We are suffering. Thank you and COYB

We need a manager who can make us compete in this division and create a team. We have some decent individuals but no team.
We need organisation and a spine.

That man is Billy Davies and give him a 3 year contract straight away.

Unfortunately, neither the league position nor the goals against column lie. The bitter truth is that under Mr Jewell we are not good enough.

A change of owner? now? Do you know how much this club owes ME???? Please would anyone who wants a change of owner THINK!! I admit that it would not be shooting ourselves in the foot, it would be slitting our own throat.

Right now a manager change is what we need, with the game next sat being the absolute final straw. I know this has been mentioned before, but Solskjaer anyone??

I cannot believe our owner does not make some sort of statement now. We need something from the very top yet again total silence.

Agree with previous post that this club needs a change right from the very top to bottom. Yes Jewell may go but who wil come in and what will they be able to do apart from the normal instant lift for a few games, this club has major problems and has since ME took over and I feel will take many many years to put right.

Said it before the club needs leadership at the highest level...and it seems to have none.

Nice bloke, got nothing against him as a person, however not the right man for this football club, he seems to feel as though his time is up, do the right thing and walk, so we can start again and get back on track, COYB!

I feel sorry for Jewell, he seems like a nice guy, but managers like him are part of the past, I think he could still be ok a division or two lower, but not in the Championship. I just hope our next manager won't be Megson, McCarthy, Kean or Coyle...

God i thought that all fans up the road would be watching the game with Arsenal.
Simonss94 agree with most you say other than Magilton was backed with money and didnt deliver. Mick Mills is a legend in my eyes but his time has passed. I want to see a young strong manager who wont tolerate passengers.

How about Roger Osborne? - makes me laugh how some are just mentioning any former great Town player without a moments thought. I wouldn't jump the gun just yet, PJ hasn't left .

Paul - leave with your dignity and go now please. You did a good job to salvage the Roy Keane wreckage but your "best Town Squad ever" are not delivering and to be frank this team should be pushing for a top 10 finish - in short they need a 'f&*(I'n' rocket up their backsides. Please leave with a semblance of pride and honour - thank you, good luck and goodbye. Now - CURBISHLEY or BIG MICK IN AND NOW BEFORE TUESDAY'S GAME.

Well who do we bring in? Mills? A great but not one to take us forward. I'm not sure who but think we do need someone from the past with itfc in their blood in some capacity to help the new manager what it means to be part of a great club.
