Jewell Considering Town Future After Hull Defeat
Saturday, 20th Oct 2012 17:37

Boss Paul Jewell says he will think over his Town position over the weekend after the Blues stretched their run of games without a win to 10 at Hull City. Jewell will consult with club owner Marcus Evans and other people close to him as he assesses what he feels is best not just for himself but for the club.

With banners calling for his exit again on show amongst the Town support, he says he empathises with where those supporters are coming from: “The fans of this football club, more than most, travel every other week huge distances and they’re not happy. I fully understand that and I accept the criticism that comes my way. I’ve had it before.

“What I want to do is what’s best for the club. I don’t want to quit but at the same time I have to realise what the best thing is for Ipswich, not just Ipswich, me as well, and the team. I have a lot of thinking to do over the weekend and we’ll see where it takes us.”

He says he considers where things are after each match, not just at the difficult times: “I think every game, whether we win a game or lose the game.

“It isn’t just one occasion. We have to look at the bigger picture for Ipswich and think ‘Am I the man to take them forward?’ and if I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people who are close to me, if I decide the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that.

“I don’t want to do that, I’ve got to be honest and I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with Marcus and honest with people close to me.”

As regards the game itself, he said: “Losing a late goal has been the bane of us really, but I think Hull deserved to win. I don’t think anyone who was at the game can say they didn’t deserve to win it.

“They put 31 crosses into the box and we didn’t stop any and they deservedly won the game. I’m not hiding behind anything.

“Late goals are very difficult to take, but the reason we concede late goals is because we allow crosses to come into the box.”

Hull boss Steve Bruce was relieved but felt his side deserved their victory: “For me it was the right result, we were the only ones who were trying to win it.

"I can understand Ipswich trying to hang on with the position they were in and scoring in the last couple of minutes is always great.”

To be perfectly honest nobody was really happy about his appointment from the start. Some things are just not meant to be, this sad affair was one of them.

Have just retuned from Hull: PJ is governed by reputation: team doing well as a starting unit. Under pressure - yes, but doing OK! The only change he needed to make was not have started with Emmanuel - Thomas.?

Ok Marcus9. Sorry. Just structure your posts a but beter, without the lurching from text to capitals?! It is all cos I am so effed off with it all at PR, spin, smoke and mirrors. Us fans should stick together more both in the ground and away from it. Why do we put up with ludicrous ticket prices for example?

The squad (incl. the loan players) is definately good enough for a top 10 finish, but the tactics, team selection, morale, players confidence etc... is down to the manager and coaching staff, yet none of this is happening so Mr Jewell , I am afraid you have to admit you have failed at your job, so it is time to resign.

How can he stay after that comment. Anyone who is considering their future and if they can carry on.........will not, he will be gone leaving us in a terrible position. I fear for whoever comes in. Having to work with clueless Clegg. Please give us our club back, instill some passion. Give us some one proud to be ITFC leading players, staff and the fans from the front. Evans PJ's replacement is the most important decision you will have to make in this hobby horse you call Ipswich town. Give us some Cobbold Magic!!

Unfortunately i think he'll stay for one last roll of the dice on Tuesday night. It will be Derby beating us on our own turf that will seal his fate. ITID

This is nonsense, How on earth is jewell allowed to say such things? What if he decides to stay after the weekend? Surely the communication that he has should be with his employers not the press. It is not the first time and another example of a club with little orgainsation, leadership or common bloody sense.

Jewell cannot stay now and we should have McCarthy in tomorrow.

MIcks Mills is not an answer to any solution at ITFC, putting an out of touch failed manager in charge would be suicidal.

As far as todays game I thought we were lucky in the first 20 not to be 2 down, The goal lifted the team and we could have gone on to get a second and there was signs of progress, Wellens and Reo Coker were good, Campbell a menace off the scraps, Chambers solid, We let them cross at will from the left which should have been dealt with early on but we paid the price eventually. I have not seen Cresswell play well this year, he lacks pace, Higginbottom - I like him as a stop gap but taking him on a 2 year contract ? Not sure whether he has this length of time in him.

This is the first post I have felt the need to say the following but reading the above from pj and going by his whole tenure.....he's dead in the water.

Its been coming....time for the club to put us all out of our misery, wipe the slate clean and seriously sit down and realise that the current "1 year plan" on both manager, player and fan front is not working and never will.

Why can we never agree terms on wages over summers, yet seem are willing to pay them short term on loan players for a month
post window, surely affecting contracted players most likely out of the team. In defence of pj, this isnt just reflective of him, this has now been going on for season upon season for at least 3-4 seasons.

This isnt just a failure of pj, its a failure of the club and particularly the owner and Clegg. Marcus Evans needs to realise that if he wants any sort of return on his investment and ultimately success for the club by acheiving Premier League football, he needs to realise that the history of club success has taught us that any long term acheivement has been by building 3-4 year projects.

Anything shorter than that is short sighted and doomed to failure in my opinion.

Make no mistake, we now need urgent drastic changes in my opinion at this club or League 1 is a distinct possibility!

It has been clear for some time PJ is not upto it,however, ME and SC have shown complete negligence in handling the situation, almost to the point of burying their head in the sand.

Whatever happens I do not support any vilification of PJ as a person and many town fans do not want to go down the Blackburn route. Action must happen now, PJ must be removed along with Hutchings and put Klugg in charge for now. SC must lead this as we know we will not see ME.

Apart from wasting 4-6 weeks, we all knew that changing the manager 2 weeks ago was the correct course of action - we are now in such a mess I don't believe that with any manager we will now stay up.

In essence I don't think we have reached the bottom yet, I hope I am wrong!

We can't even buy a player, so don't look for a manager that will require compensation to be released. I'm gutted my club has got to this state!

Perhaps even Jewell now realises its time for him to go. The teams seems to be in a tailspin of death right now and every change Jewell makes has a negative effect. Bringing in loanee after loanee never works and Jewell just doesn't have the ability to turn things around.
Changing the manager will not by itself put the club back on track but it will be a start.
Jewell out!!
