Jewell Considering Town Future After Hull Defeat Saturday, 20th Oct 2012 17:37
Boss Paul Jewell says he will think over his Town position over the weekend after the Blues stretched their run of games without a win to 10 at Hull City. Jewell will consult with club owner Marcus Evans and other people close to him as he assesses what he feels is best not just for himself but for the club.
With banners calling for his exit again on show amongst the Town support, he says he empathises with where those supporters are coming from: “The fans of this football club, more than most, travel every other week huge distances and they’re not happy. I fully understand that and I accept the criticism that comes my way. I’ve had it before.
“What I want to do is what’s best for the club. I don’t want to quit but at the same time I have to realise what the best thing is for Ipswich, not just Ipswich, me as well, and the team. I have a lot of thinking to do over the weekend and we’ll see where it takes us.”
He says he considers where things are after each match, not just at the difficult times: “I think every game, whether we win a game or lose the game.
“It isn’t just one occasion. We have to look at the bigger picture for Ipswich and think ‘Am I the man to take them forward?’ and if I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people who are close to me, if I decide the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that.
“I don’t want to do that, I’ve got to be honest and I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with Marcus and honest with people close to me.”
As regards the game itself, he said: “Losing a late goal has been the bane of us really, but I think Hull deserved to win. I don’t think anyone who was at the game can say they didn’t deserve to win it.
“They put 31 crosses into the box and we didn’t stop any and they deservedly won the game. I’m not hiding behind anything.
“Late goals are very difficult to take, but the reason we concede late goals is because we allow crosses to come into the box.”
Hull boss Steve Bruce was relieved but felt his side deserved their victory: “For me it was the right result, we were the only ones who were trying to win it.
"I can understand Ipswich trying to hang on with the position they were in and scoring in the last couple of minutes is always great.”

The only positive to consider after todays game is that 10/11 of the games we have played are in positions 1-10 of the table! we have played the top 10 in the league! we need to start picking up points now! whether Jewell goes or not!
PJ will be gone by tomorrow. Any discussion with ME can only result in one outcome. He simply cannot turn this around now. With an international break to organise a clearly failing defence now wasted and another case of 'same old, same old' to record in the club's depressing recent history it is pointless to speculate on how many more games he should be given. He has opened the door by admitting that he himself is questioning his future; no-one is going to let him shut it again and allow him to carry on as if nothing had happened.
As an epitaph his statement that 'they put in 31 crosses and we didn't stop any' seems to sum up the PJ reign. Pure defensive ineptitude but what could you expect when PJ's philosophy extended mainly to bringing in hordes of midfielders when the problems at the back were largely ignored.
Given the names we have got in on loan, and the fact more money seems to have appeared, I would say Jewell has been told here you go, here are the players. Now win the game. He is a gonna. He knows it, his comments were to say he agrees, lets sort pay off with Marcus.....The fact Marcus has sanctioned these players coming in means he has now sorted a manager to come in as well. Who?! Henderson and Reo Coker. Portsmouth and West Ham links....we shall see.
Terry Butcher at ICT would be my choice not every bodies cup of tea but the blood runs blue. Dark days are looming PJ do the right thing and show that its to big for you, shame because his a nice chap and reminds me of my uncle brin.

PJ has had 18 months to get things right after RK and it seems we are even in a worse state now than then, as PJ quite rightly points out the table reflects your true position, I REST MY CASE.
mattinlondon ,someone else said that earlier in the week ! as i ve said before i was no Keane fan , but how the hell has PJ cleared Keanes mess up ?.Must now be odds on to go Monday [or Tuesday night ] yet another disastrous era comes to an end .Lets all hope and pray M E has better judgement this time , i wont hold my breath though, .
Gotta say don't like supporters giving jewell the stick he gets on here, seems like a honest guy who's trying his best, but really ain't working for him, maybe he quits, but honestly think he will still be in charge Tuesday, but a change of manager is what is needed, but with who....... The problems at this club are much deeper than jewell, could be a season of struggle whoever is in charge!
Went to the metch today, but with a Hull fan, so sat in the main stand with a great view of the match. I was actually quite glad to see Hull score late on as I felt that an apology would have been in order to those around me!
Apart from the ten minutes after half time it was all one way traffic, we should have lost by eight or nine in truth. The defence looks more shakey that when Delany and Smith were the main two. Why Chpora was brought on I will never know, he is a complete waste of space. DJ was showing some promise up front.
Its going backwards under PJ, the team which started the season was not good enough and now PJ is just desperately signing players on short term contracts or loans. We are not building a team for the future, just creating a short term team to get out the bottom three and even that is not working!
Quite simply, watching Ipswich Town has become and embarassment, time for PJ to go!
OK YOU HAVE JUST GOT IPSWICH JOB who do you keep who goes constant changes are not good either we have been in decline for years this is not all pj s doing and changing the manager could be final nail. but it is likely you will all get your wish .
Mick Mills - are you lot mad. Stop living in the past and move on. We need a vibrant, tactically sound manager, no nonense manager who will steady the ship and take us forward.
Jewell's time is up. it was up a long time ago. The latest crazy decision was to play unfit players. Why have a fitness coach (ex olympics) and then completely ignore him (i presume he said the players were unfit). A new manager and coach is needed and i suspect people have already been sounded out..
In my opinion, I would go for Billy Davies from the people available. Wait to be shot down on this.
Not by me Dog. I agree entirely...would like Harry but guessing he is advising on players coming in on loan only. Billy Davies is a quality manager at this level.
Problem is to a degree PJ has shuffled the team about so much he really has no loyalty to anyone and it seems that way even if they play reasonably, how often has the same midfield or defence/gk played together under him. He has never had a settled team and that's what I was looking for at the beginning of this season after a somewhat better second half to last season and it simply hasn't happened, no wonder the subs which are coming on lately look lack lustre and disinterested, they were once in a plan to get this club moving forwards and now discarded i.e. Scotland, Hyam, Chopra, Luongo, Carson etc - if PJ does go there's a lot of work to be done by the next man in (whoever he is).
Totally with you Dog..Billy Davies is a no-brainer.
If Jewell is still here after 2moro then there is something seriously wrong at PR.
How much mediocrity are we going to have to put up with until something is done?..how many chances is Jewell going to be given?.
7-1 stuffing vs Peterbro. 6-0 stuffing vs Blackpool. 7 defeats in a row last season. 10 games without a win this. We let in 2 or 3 goals every single game.
It's an absolute disgrace that he hasn't been sacked and we're having to seemingly wait for him to go when it suits him.
MARCUS139 dont get personal my opinion is that mine. as for not understanding my post well never mind it obviously goes beyond your intelligence AND I WILL USE MY ONE BRAIN CELL TO SAY F... .F
