Jewell Still Has Backing of Bosses
Sunday, 21st Oct 2012 15:02

Town boss Paul Jewell continues to have the backing of owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg, TWTD understands. The Blues manager, who said he would discuss his future with Evans after yesterday’s game at Hull City, is expected at his pre-match press conference tomorrow lunchtime ahead of Tuesday’s match against his former club Derby County at Portman Road.

Jewell, who was at Playford Road this morning to watch the 1-0 U21s victory over QPR, yesterday said he would consider his position with the Blues without a win in 10 games and in 23rd in the table.

"We have to look at the bigger picture for Ipswich and think ‘Am I the man to take them forward?’, he said.

"And if I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people who are close to me that the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that.

“I don’t want to do that, I’ve got to be honest and I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with Marcus and honest with people close to me.”

The answers he has received from those in charge at the club appear to have been those that he was looking for.

i can understand why he would want to go! look at all the players they have targeted over the time he has been here, never have had first choice, only end up with third and fourth choices.they go into the boardroom and then disapear!all you so called fans called for jim magiltons head and look at his record against all these others, we should never have got rid of him!and who do you think will want to be are manager at this over rated club of ours . supporters you make me laugh! lose a couple of matches and all you do is whinge and moan. i will be there on tues! coyb

So many of you ‘talk' to PJ, The Major, and ME through this (excellent) website. None of them read this website - they've suggested as much or even stated this. Why not copy/email the club if, for some reason, you're not happy? Or even go to the next two home games and shout at them? Just saying...

I wonder what the settlement package would be if Jewell was sacked? - does anybody know what PJ's 2 year+ contract was worth?

It really surprise me that PJ is doubting himself now after getting these new loans in after the last few weeks or so but can't help feeling that ME & SC make some sort of 'pact' a few weeks ago more or less along the lines of 'we'll get you these loanee's in and see how the team performs over the next few months and in the mean while give you time to 'gel' these faces together and take the heat of you'. Unfortunately for ITFC I can see this going on til' near Xmas unless PJ resigns which is the most probable rather than being sacked. Either way I have very little confidence in the board!

The whole club has become a joke from top to bottom! Went to Hull yesterday and sat in the main stand with my Hull friend. My seat was equivalent to that of the Co-op stand (or whatever its called) - anyway P block. My hull seat cost just £20 compared with at least £30 at PR, it also had a much better view and better facilities behaind the stand.

ME you are mugging us fans off, your prices are too high, the standard of facilites at PR are far less superior to those elsewhere. The standard of football is certainly of a standard less than to be found elsewhere. And then to top it all, even when you know that the fans are right about Jewell you refuse to take any action. ME take note, not even the most loyal of fans will pay these prices to watch league one football next season.

This is just like the last days of 'Keano', just before we lost at home to Nott F (Delaney - own goal) .... it's déjà vu…… all over again!

nunn the wiser, i share that belief.Jewell has to go ,BUT Marcus Evans has to be as culpable as anyone for this mess. The buck dosnt stop with Jewell,Evans and his mouthpiece Clegg know little if anything about football, the present state of affairs is down to poor decisions from the top as much as from the manager.Even after Jewell moves on [as with Keane] the problems will remain .Dark days ahead im afraid .

The problem at the moment is not totally the manager as a season ticket holder for mo re years than i care to remember it makes me want to cry to see the state our beloved club is in. For this i mainly blame Marcus Evans and especially Simon Clegg. What they have done today shows how little they care for our club. There is little point season ticket holders boycotting matches as they already have our money and that is all they care about. To prove a point about Mr Clegg a fewyears ago two days after we had beaten Norwich i met David Sheepshanks at my place of work. We spoke for at least fifteen minutes about the match and the club. Last year i was having trouble buying tickets ( thats a whole different story) and on coming out of the ticket office Mr Clegg was at the gate talking to the security guy. I asked very politely if i could have a word with him at which point he looked me up and down like he had scraped me off his shoe said nothing and walked off. Bobby Robson asked Marcus Evans before he died to take care of his club god only knows what the great man would be thinking now sad very sad

I know people want to,rightly, vent their anger but on tuesday night lets remember the guy's on the pitch and support them from whistle to whistle. So much of this is not their fault also expect major changes from the squad on saturday.COYB

i have to say i have been a jewell man but arfter his confusing statement i have finally changed my mind i like the guy but he seems out of ideas and confidence .however my main gripe is with the completely clueless clegg the summer transfer debacle ,indecision, no outward direction and the desperate clutch of loanees tell the tale.clegg is way out of his depth and he more than anyone is responsible for this mess. and then pj invites the sack and clegg again does nothing .must be the worst we have ever seen

Nothing less than 6 points from the two home games will keep him in his job.

You will have to remain patient for a little bit longer. However, if suddenly the team go on a winning run, unlikely on current form, PJ could be here until at least Christmas!!

I hope P.J doesn't get personal abuse, fair play it's not worked out but we're in serious danger of becoming as bad as Norwich fan's who treated Glenn Roeder and his family atrociously.

And I know Steve Kean was useless at Blackburn but those fan's were disgusting from the moment he got the job, to the moment he left.

I tell you what i think, jewell is quite a good manager actually,he is good at identifying players both current and ones with potential he is also jovial and witty(a bit like joe royle who did amazing under the circumstances),the problem is that idiot assistant of his if you look on a matchday is is him who stands there with his clipboard suggesting tactics and subs etc to pj,pointing here there and everywhere,i think pj has been far too loyal to him and listens far too much to this stupid bumbling cretin.unfortunately this has cost him his reputatation which is now in tatters, also i have no issues with marcus evans owning the club but talking of idiots simon clegg?what a pompus prat he is a typical rich kid with a plum in his mouth(he probably has a degree in business studies)unfortunately has never had a job in the real world and knows nothing about football,as somebody once said on here it is like us punters talking about how to run an american football club i for one wouldnt have a clue and wouldnt dream of walking in and pretending to understand it,a bit like clive woodward moving from rugby union to southhampton, that didnt work either!

They must be keeping something from the fans. If not, why do they continue to back him? Nice bloke and all that but that wont win matches. We are in the s**t and the long suffering supporters of this club deserve better than this rubbish. I just cant understand why such a successful buinessman like Marcus Evans would operate this business so differently to the rest of his empire. Absolutely stunned by his support for PJ for such failure.

..... one huge concern to me is that some (evidence from posts' on here) are still of the opinion that 'we will be there whatever happens, and whatever level we play at'.

Maybe we just have to accept that as well as credibility, ambition has left the Club also - so what chance do the rest of us stand in our plight ?

StuartBrett9, well said mate. I think it is time for pj to move on but I also have huge admiration as he seems a thoroughly decent man who always seems to have been 100% committed to this club.

The problem has been the comittment of others at the club and a few need to seriously look in the mirror and ask if they have given the same? Makes me extremely angry players, Cheif Execs and ultimately owners are just as palpable and its not as though they can be sacked!! They have let the club down just as much as pj.

Although the time is now to move pj on (he's pretty much admitted it himself!) the worrying thing for me is who do we get in and will whoever does come in be given the 5 year contract and funding needed to really move us forwards? I think not and for the first time since our Premiership days, I am beginning to get scared we are to be relegated.

The powers that be at Portman Road dont seem to worry about the fans. One wonders about why Evans is allowing this to happen its not for the good of this once proud club now the laughing stock of football

Stuart Brett9 - you're absolutely right - ITFC fans should never, ever, resort to the kind of behaviour you mention, whatever the level of disappointment.

Personally, I would like to think that EVERY ITFC Supporter would be above that.
