Jewell Still Has Backing of Bosses
Sunday, 21st Oct 2012 15:02

Town boss Paul Jewell continues to have the backing of owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg, TWTD understands. The Blues manager, who said he would discuss his future with Evans after yesterday’s game at Hull City, is expected at his pre-match press conference tomorrow lunchtime ahead of Tuesday’s match against his former club Derby County at Portman Road.

Jewell, who was at Playford Road this morning to watch the 1-0 U21s victory over QPR, yesterday said he would consider his position with the Blues without a win in 10 games and in 23rd in the table.

"We have to look at the bigger picture for Ipswich and think ‘Am I the man to take them forward?’, he said.

"And if I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people who are close to me that the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that.

“I don’t want to do that, I’ve got to be honest and I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with Marcus and honest with people close to me.”

The answers he has received from those in charge at the club appear to have been those that he was looking for.

The biggest immediate problem I now see is that now Jewell has said he was considering his position, everybody expects him to go. This will include the players. They will not be truly motivated by him(lets face it they havent been for most of the season!) and will be expecting him to resign/get sacked any second. He has no faith in himself so no-one else will either. Team will have lost the match mentally before kick-off.
This proves he cannot and will not turn things around. It will continue to get worse till he goes. Once he announced his fears he had to go. I fear ITFC are doomed

I hear we're getting in a loan manager for 3 months. Someone who is destined for bigger things but is going to build up his fitness with us - pitched straight in even though not fit.

I wonder how long exectutives last in the Marcus Evans empire last if they perform as badly as P J has? i've been town through thick & thin since my first game when we beat Liverpool 4-1 in 1958!!!!! & apart from the Jackie Milburn managerial spell(in his defence he started the youth policy that was to serve us so well in the coming years)in the time after Sir Alf i've not witnessed such non interest in players wearing the shirt not only has P J lost the dressing room & the fans he seems totally clueless as to what to do next on his on admission he states "i don't want to keep saying the same thing each week! well he did that at Sheff Wed & Derby so nothing has changed nice bloke but has had too many recent failures including us enough is enough P J do the decent thing & go & join Keano back on the pundit circuit.

Evans and Clegg clearly doesn't listen to the Fan's and there feelings towards PJ, the club is in a right state and heads should roll starting with PJ and SC.

I just wonder what ME thinks Jewell will do, I agree with somehow showing our protests to him in a way not to affect the team. Maybe we could all send a private and confidential letter to him, he will take notice. He probably wouldn't read them himself but can you imagine the effect of 15,000 or so letters turning up and his PA having to deal with them all. It would need coordination but if they all turned up on the same day, he would get the message from the fans.

The way i see it it PJ will be here for the next two home games, and depending on results we lose he walks, we win he is here until end of his contract!
I wish i had a job where i can be completely enept and useless be on a huge salary and can,t get sacked!

To me, it's pretty obvious that Jewell doesn't want to be here yet doesn't want to lose the chance of a pay off; hence he makes this halfhearted comment about being unsure about his future hoping that Evans will see it and sack him as he's basically stating he's lost the dressing room.

However, Evans doesn't want to pay Jewell off; he wants him to resign so we're at an impasse.

Furthermore, the atmosphere at Portman Road library will hardly make Jewell feel he's gone beyond the point of no return; it's not like he's attempting to appease Blackburn fans. It feels as though no one cares anymore - not the chairman, not the CEO, not the manager, not the players...and, going by match day atmosphere, not the fans.

Bosses still back Jewell ,Oh my god!
10 games without a win Say no more.
Should have got rid in international week that way had time to get someone else.
Not even a quarter through season and 15 points off top, its like startin season with 15 point penalty.
Get Jewell out now. Rednapp in!

It's gonna take about 3-4 games for the players to even start to gel properly, but as often seen a change in manager brings an up turn in form n results, he has clearly lost the dressing room hence players not listening to him, I now believe its time to go as supported him up till now but in the long run who ever the new manager could be they will av same problems as keane and jewel av had working with clegg, we need a football person running our club for ME

CLEGG OUT

As season ticket holders and life time supporters of this once great club, we have to back the team for 90 minutes against Derby. But I feel we should then make our feelings known to Marcus Evans and Simon Clegg after the game. We cannot carry on with Paul Jewell as manager what ever the result.

Marcus Evans is a successful business man, but he obviously knows or cares less about the fans who have supported this club over the past mediocre 4 years. He is lucky that Ipswich fans do not show their feelings about how badly this club is being run at the moment. Come on lads and lasses it is time you showed your true feelings, not just walk away from the ground moaning or talking to Radio Suffolk.

@runaround i agree with your comments i truely believe he's looking out for his mates he goes they go simple as that so he will hang around to be pushed. They all get their payouts, so as far as im concerned its all about greed, he knows this is his last chance at management there cant be anyone as incompetent as Evans out there to give him a job surely.

Hey i know its has been a shocking start but i could get shot down in flames hear but the mans heart is in the club he is helpless once they cross the line sometimes i wish players could get sacked as well.iM NOT HAPPY AT ALL AT THE MOMENT and am not sure by any extent that paul is the man to carry us forward but football is fickle and if a miracle is poss and we win 5 maybe 6 on trot he will be leading us upwards yes we have been crap yes our owner and clegg cert unimpressive and players need to look at themselves but derby tue give him support and lets c a very sit on the fence but frustrated town fan

this will I won't I jack it in is no good for anyone. Look PJ you will know whether you have the fight left or not. The fact is you have done no better than keane and 1 win in 10 tells you something is far from right. Let us all move on quickly for the sake of our club.

Do us a favour Paul and kindly admit defeat!! You've been on borrowed time for months and totally out of your depth. Please give us the opportunity to rescue ourselves now before it's too late!!

This may sound bizarre but I am actually looking forward to Tuesday night. I will be there just to protest...why stay at home and protest? Plan B if protesting don't work is to stay at home and hopefully as stevebluey says, the owner might get the point of this total clown to be rid off!

We sould give ME a break, him leaving would 100% be bad news for all of us. He has put a lot into the club and tried to help. The two people we sould be getting rid off is PJ and SC. They do not have a clue what is going on. Also what us fans want!!!!!!!!

Mr Evans,

As an Ipswich fan are you happy being 23rd in this division? Are you enjoying the lacklustre displays and pathetic effort being put in by your staff?

As a business man are you comfortable with the way your company is performing and the way your management are enabling your assets? Are you ok with the fact you are now losing 100s of customers each week???

If you're happy to let this continue heaven only knows how you're other businesses become so successful!
