Jewell Still Has Backing of Bosses
Sunday, 21st Oct 2012 15:02

Town boss Paul Jewell continues to have the backing of owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg, TWTD understands. The Blues manager, who said he would discuss his future with Evans after yesterday’s game at Hull City, is expected at his pre-match press conference tomorrow lunchtime ahead of Tuesday’s match against his former club Derby County at Portman Road.

Jewell, who was at Playford Road this morning to watch the 1-0 U21s victory over QPR, yesterday said he would consider his position with the Blues without a win in 10 games and in 23rd in the table.

"We have to look at the bigger picture for Ipswich and think ‘Am I the man to take them forward?’, he said.

"And if I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people who are close to me that the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that.

“I don’t want to do that, I’ve got to be honest and I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with Marcus and honest with people close to me.”

The answers he has received from those in charge at the club appear to have been those that he was looking for.

Mr Evans should have opened his eyes a long time ago and realised Paul Jewell is not cut out for our club, and Mr Clegg is not suited and booted for it either.. I'm losing the will to live with what's happened

What a complete shambles !! Please do the right thing and resign. Yo have had more than enough time to build a team at Portman Road . More loanees this season who have no allegiance to the club!!!
I have supported ITFC for forty years and this is the worst I have ever seen.We are at our lowest ebb and I feel that if we do not appoint a suitable replacement soon , we will find ourselves in League 1 next season .

A couple of weeks ago, i was informed by a number of you that we were no Blackburn rovers and we behaved better. Well, how many of you will have your head in the sand on Tuesday. I will be there with my son, as i have my driving test the next day and i want something to take my mind off of it - something not stressful. Jewell Out. Clegg Out. Evans - wake up and smell the coffee.

This is convienient because we play derby in 48 hours and he said he will decide his future in 48 hours so if we lose it is 99.9% likely that he will go.

Is leaving Ipswich managerless when bigger clubs like Bolton and Blackburn are looking for managers too maybe isn't a better option than PJ being given a couple of weeks to see if his loanees settle. I'm not saying I totally agree with it but I think it's a valid point.

League 1 here we come then. This is just ridiculous now, how this clown can still manage our club after what he said after the game yesterday is beyond me. We need to act now or it will be too late, whoever takes over will inherit an absolute mess, a team of rejects and loans.

So what's it to be, make our voices heard on Tuesday about what we think or vote with our feet!

After these 2 home games look who we have away.

This isn't about getting something out the next 2 games it is the rest of the season.

If we had Robbie cowling as chairman PJ would be gone.

He has to go.

like to know where this story has come from phil? have you spoken to the club owner or clegg to get this info or is this just guesswork or speculation. hopefully its 1 of the latter & he will be gone by tomorrow. as for the story of jewell being at the u21 match this morning, i spoke to some1 at lunchtime who was there, standing with chris hutchings as it happens, & pj was nowhere to be seen at any point of the match.

The players owe P.J a performance... none of these daft comments about 'we're playing for the manager's job and all the other ' b*ll*ck's ... two games or bust!!!

If we lose again on Tuesday Jewell must walk, whatever Evans thinks, he has lost the crowd already and after yesterdays display he seems to have lost the dressing room as well ! He obviously forgot to tell the players that the game lasts until the ref blows up, not just 90 minutes, as they forgot to move in extra time and just ball watched as Hull took 3 easy points again ! I can feel a Duncan Out demo coming on Tuesday night, so don't stay at home to protest , be there at Portman Road and make yourself heard !

ME usually likes to have a replacement lined up before sacking a manager. Maybe his preferred replacement is not available at present. That is the only reason I can come up with why PJ is still at the club. However, if this is the case, I would much prefer to have Klug or Osman as caretaker until the new manager can be appointed. ME is supposed to be an astute business man who must have made tough decisions in the past, including sacking staff who don't perform. So, why can't he see that PJ is finished as manager of ITFC?

Unfortunately he was never gonna back down he's not that kind of guy and I as well as a lot of the fans knew he wasn't.

Jewell I'm sorry you're time here is up.

Seems ME and Clegg are about the only people who still have belief in PJ!! The longer this goes on, the worse it will get, the more damage it will cause to the club and more likely that relegation will become a reality. What a joke.
In some ways, I'm looking forward to Tuesday night just to see how bad it gets and what the crowd reaction is. I shouldn't feel like that but its now gone past the point of no return and I have lost any hope.
Please ME or PJ, see sense and end this farce

Leave Jewel alone until after the two home games. In the meantime go and beg Kevin Beattiie to take over next week.

If Jewell leaves Town like how it is now, then he will not get another job in the Championship. He will be in exactly the same position as how Roy Keane finds himself, only without his 'big name or reputation'. And how many top or second tier chairman have rushed to employ Keane? If he clings on to the slightest possibility that he can rectify the situation then he will be more employable.

I have no idea whats behind Marcus Evans thinking. Maybe he is scared of who he will employ after Jewell goes...his track record isn't great.

This actually means nothing. I would think that there is somewhat of a a Mexican stand off in place with neither ME nor PJ keen to blink first in agreeing the terms of termination. Truth is PJ is not in any shape to lead; what can he possibly say in any pre-match team talk that can possibly make any difference. Whether or not PJ sees this as a vote of confidence or not remains to be seen. What should be clear to ME is that PJ does not enjoy the confidence of the large majority of the fans and that alone makes his job almost impossible. This together with PJ's self professed self doubts make the task of getting a decent result on Tuesday ridiculously difficult. In recent weeks we've heard that of course there is a tipping point when action will have to be taken. For most of us who can't see how things can get any worse, that tipping point has well passed so either PJ should walk or ME should bite the bullet and put the manager out of his obvious misery. Prolonging the agony serves no useful purpose.

Can't believe that these people are treating the fans with such contempt...it's SO obvious that Jewell's protecting his pay packet and Evans doesn't want to pay him off.

Jewell, you are insulting the history of our club by refusing to go...you are doing such an unbelievably bad job but think that you're doing us a big favour by seeing it through to the bitter end...Evans is becoming just as big a joke..does he honestly think that Jewell is magically going to turn things around?..in the 22 months he's been here he's been below average at best, what makes Evans think it's going to improve all of a sudden?!

I hope the fans truly make their feelings known on tuesday evening..sod the result, this is the long term we need to be thinking of now by ousting this numpty.

GET OUT!
