Jewell Still Has Backing of Bosses
Sunday, 21st Oct 2012 15:02

Town boss Paul Jewell continues to have the backing of owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg, TWTD understands. The Blues manager, who said he would discuss his future with Evans after yesterday’s game at Hull City, is expected at his pre-match press conference tomorrow lunchtime ahead of Tuesday’s match against his former club Derby County at Portman Road.

Jewell, who was at Playford Road this morning to watch the 1-0 U21s victory over QPR, yesterday said he would consider his position with the Blues without a win in 10 games and in 23rd in the table.

"We have to look at the bigger picture for Ipswich and think ‘Am I the man to take them forward?’, he said.

"And if I decide when I speak to Marcus and one or two other people who are close to me that the best thing for Ipswich is not to be here, then I’ll do that.

“I don’t want to do that, I’ve got to be honest and I hope the answers I come up with are positive answers but I’ve got to be honest with myself and honest with Marcus and honest with people close to me.”

The answers he has received from those in charge at the club appear to have been those that he was looking for.

Sorry lads but getting so annoyed I hit the enter button which possibly some of our players should have done weeks ago !!!

As I was saying do you think Marcus Evans is just using ITFC as his tax haven, otherwise he might have come out and shown himself to the fans. Wil he be in attendance at the clubs AGM this year and explain his reasons for keeping Paul Jewell and SC on board.

carlisleaway - I think theres about as much chance as Marcus Evans attending the AGM as me becoming the next manager of ITFC. In fairness, he's never put himself in the spotlight so why should now be any different I suppose? It would help ease the massive frustration from us lot if he did give some sort of explanation though.

I am not sure Jewell is a great guy - being filmed cheating on your wife with a hooker hardly points to him being a man I would trust or like.
I do not particularly find him funny and think he has shown himself to be clueless when it comes to improving and organising a team despite having funds available, 2 years in I have no idea what formation or style of play he is setting us up for.

I think we can pick up some points over the next 2 games - I will be at both games - no drama queen statements 'of not going' and other emotional jibber here. I think the squad of players is good but regardless of what happens Jewell should be replaced.

Does Paul Jewell drive a silverish BMW 3 series?

Have just driven up to Newcastle for work commitments and passed a BMW with Coopers of Ipswich on the side and the number plate AV** JWL.

Maybe heading home to discuss things with the wife????

Jewell is like any of us in work, bottom line this is his job and it's a result driven business, if you aren't getting the results, then time to go.

Good guy, but not the right man for the job.

I used to have alot of respect for Paul Jewell, but the longer he stays the more I think he is just looking after himself. Who is going to employ him after his time here, this could be his last management job, would you walk away??

Damn it Reo-Coker hasn't been added to the FIFA 13 squad yet!... Oh yeah Clegg & Jewell out!

Wicksy - unfortunately, not even a pale shadow of it's former self - and that hurts enormously.

Whatever the likes of Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby would think - God only knows.

As Jewell never reads the papers apparently and the Noddy lookalike Clegg doesn't look as if he can read (let's face it Marcus Evans doesn't actually exist - he's just Clegg's imaginary friend) they are probably blissfully unaware how unpopular they are..this has slipped from the club giving support and showing faith in a manager to a mentally ill stubbornness...

Evans thought that he could buy success with a few sheckles. How wrong has he been. Only way for success is to have a long term plan - not a short term one based on loanees who have no committment to the club.
The buck stops with Evans (and his mouthpiece Clegg).

ITFC lost its identity when ME took over the club, many of the supporters were concerened that this would happen then .The misplaced thinking that he saved the club is now begining to register with the others. We were presented with a temporary reprieve. The chances of ITFC becoming anything more than a Championship or dare it be said League 1 club under present regime IS NEXT TO NIL .ITFC dosnt seem to have any heart or soul anymore, it was like a big family pre Evans .

What is the problem? Jewel now haas the strongest squad he has ever had at PR. Give the man a chance. He narrowly lost to Hull away. One of the most depressing fixtures of the year. He has 8 new loans to settle in. This aquad will not get relegated so man up you so called fans. Get behind the team on Tuesday.

It seems everyone is to blame except the exceptionally negative and moaning fans. Well sack them as well, and we might be half way up the table if this team got some half decent support.

If he has said himself he can't motivate the players and doesn't know whether he is the right man for the job, why stay?

The only sheep on here are the ones who urge us all to 'keep the fafe' while the club is falling apart.

There is no unity amongst the fans who are calling for changes. It's PJ..no it's Clegg... no it's Evans and now it's everyone. These are desperate times but pointing out the bleeding obvious isn't helping. I believe that everyone in role has the best interests of the club at heart but things are still going badly wrong. A change is needed but the rubbish I read on here sometimes and conspiracy theories is laughable.

Let's face it nobody here knows how to run a club or what really happens behind the scenes so maybe we should just do our bit and support our team and try and help them out of the hole they are in. Yes they might not deserve it and we pay a lot of money but our atmosphere is crap, the numbers are dwindling. Catch 22 but consider this... When you moan that the club don't do enough with ticket promotions and the club run some the season ticket holders moan. On the questionnaire the club responded to atmosphere and entertainment by putting stuff on around the ground and trying drums,Guess what more moans. We all need to play our part.

We do not have a divine right to be at the top of the championship there are bigger clubs than us in that league and below us who will also feel they should be up there and the sooner we focus on long term development rather than instant success the better. All summer we had posts constantly with lists of players for Evans spending up to 10m on strikers keepers and centre backs. If there was a TWtd consortium of owners we would be out of business by now.
