Martin Set for Exit Claim
Sunday, 4th Nov 2012 11:08

Town will look to sell midfielder Lee Martin in January, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. Contract talks with the 25-year-old, whose current terms are up at the end of the season, have been on hold since August.

However, with new manager Mick McCarthy only having taken over on Thursday, it’s highly unlikely that any decisions have yet been made regarding players' futures.

Even if the Blues and Martin are unable to agree new terms before January, that’s no guarantee that the Ex-Manchester United man will be sold in the next transfer window.

Two years ago, with Town similarly struggling at the wrong end of the Championship , the Blues turned down offers from Crystal Palace for David Norris and Damien Delaney in order to keep them to help in the fight for survival.

Meanwhile, ex-Wolves scouts Dave Bowman and Ian ‘Taff’ Evans are again mentioned in connection with moves to the Blues, as reported after their departure from Molineux on Friday.

Elsewhere, it's reported that Blues owner Marcus Evans consulted with former boss Paul Jewell about his potential successor during the Liverpudlian's time as manager at Portman Road. Jewell, who left Town by mutual consent a week and a half ago, and Evans enjoyed a close relationship during his time with the Blues.

Let's just hope this is true : the guy is a total waste of space who drags the team down whenever he plays ; we would be better off playing with 10 men. If we can get a few quid back on him, that would be a bonus. And he can take Chopra, Thomas and Edwards with him.

This will no doubt come down to wages. Martin out Boyd in maybe?

Wow, this is absolutely gobsmacking:
"Elsewhere, it's reported that Blues owner Marcus Evans consulted with former boss Paul Jewell about his potential successor during the Liverpudlian's time as manager at Portman Road. "

If true, that's absolutely amazing and shows the great decency of PJ the man. There's no doubt that he cared, maybe still does, passionately about our Club, I'm really sorry it didn't work out with him and wish him all the best.

Spot on I think, Martin was played by a poor manager in a poor team in a poor position (for him) and it is a shame because he can be an handful but the money he is on and who we can get for the same money then it would be madness not to cash in if he does not sign a new contract.

He puts 100 percent in for every game but on this seasons performance I don't think he deserves a new contract.
Swap deal for wellens I'd be happy with.

Being brutally honest, he's not good enough for us if we want to be successful. A fan favourite, don't get me wrong but his end game is so poor.

When you look at people like Boyd, Burke, Phillips, Ince, Coutts these are all much better players in similar positions

Agree 100% with the previous poster about getting shot of Chopra instead. He is not what this club is about, has been about, or will be about.

I bet he becomes twice the player when he leaves, alla Walters.

Boyd, hhhmmmm Mr Clegg, wish you brought him in.

IamSpartacus added 11:47 - Nov 4
Another utter fail by Clegg- isn't this his job to ensure the financial veracity of the club? If we were never going to agree to the wages then we should have sold in the summer.

It is this kind of mis-management that has resulted in the club being £60mil+ in debt, and rising by the day in interest. Before Clegg joined the club when did we ever seriously question the work and capability of the Chief Exec?

I really believe that MM can sort the problems on the pitch but am still concerned with the ones off it.

He's a capable player on his day. It's great to list other players who are seemingly better but can we sign them? As far as PJ offering advice to Evans it shows how he's a thoroughly decent gentleman and should never have been the target of much of the scorn. Criticise the results, criticise the performance, criticise the tactics but not the person. PJ would have been a good choice a few years ago but he came in at a very tough time - the squad being less stable than any time in the history of the club. He wasn't able to get the players in to stabilise things. But which manager ever has? In the history of the team we've never gone through this level of rapid change in personnel.

If MM wants him he will be offered a deal. Then its up to him. If he is greedy & feels he is worth more then i would sell in jan.

I am sorry but Martin can do a very good impression of Norris as a headless cicken role. 100% effort maybe, but only 50% effective.

Dont take to much notice of what the papers say a few weeks ago they said harry redknapp was going to be the next ipswich manager.
I am not sure if martin is a worker or a shirker.
If he is a worker he will stay and play .
If he is a shirker he will be on his way.
In january with all the other shirkers.

At spartacus... We were already in that debt when mr clegg took over, also the reason we have never questioned the CEO because we never went without a win since march! Another pointless blame on clegg. Leave the man alone.

As for Lee Martin, earns too much, and no end product, id rather have a jamal campbell ryce or yannick bolasie type player on half the wage!

itfc1981 added 12:10 - Nov 4
Gibbs do you then blame Jewell for not getting players to sign contracts who else is to blem but the CEO, get real.

He has failed to get players to come to the club, Austin and Boyd. You cant say they wanted to much money as we have had Chopra and Bulllard on stupid money since the Austin saga.

He fails annually to get players to sort out their contracts the summer before they are up. Are you and others blind to this? If they dont sign they should be sold ASAP.

Clegg has increased the debt by failing to recoup transfer fees. Plus theres the wages these plays take while their contracts wind down.

We might get about £200K for Martin with 6 months of his contract to go, and it is strange to me that we didn't set a deadline for him signing this summer and then transfer list him to try to raise funds to buy new players. We said we would do that, but just didn't.

As for Martin himself, he seems to be one of the hardest working players and does seem to care, but on the other side of the coin he won't sign a contract and he doesn't have much end product on the pitch. If he leaves, I won't be too unhappy.

Paul Jewell advising on his own replacement - top bloke! I hope that Mick can bring the best out of some of the young players Paul signed such as Cresswell, Hewitt and Emmanuel-Thomas, and if we can sign up the likes of Reo-Coker and Campbell too there may be some Jewell legacy that is positive.

daley - i would be very interested in who your choice of new manager would have been and also any of the current players that you actually rate.

We might remember that at was PJ who turned Martin's Ipswich career around. Up until that point he had been a complete waste of money. Latterly he became a bit of a waste of money. I'd be happy to let him go - my only concern is that we have so little creativity as it is, we'd want to replace him with a similar type. But someone quite good this time please.

StowTractorBoy added 12:21 - Nov 4
I won't be disappointed if he leaves as he has absolutley no end product. He runs around to look busy but achieves little and his goalscoring record is poor to say the least.
If Martin thinks he can find another deal anywhere else or indeed at Ipswich Town that will match what he is on now he will need to think again. Unfortunately it looks as though another contract will now run down and we will get nothing for him.

Jewels added 12:21 - Nov 4
Best news I've heard all day - Martin thinks he's something more than he is, he does some good stuff (not much) but he does a lot more bad stuff. His final ball is rubbish and I cannot remember the last time he scored a goal for us. I also think he has a bad attitude - I hope MM sees this too and he does go in January!

jas0999 added 12:23 - Nov 4
I'm afraid Martin has never really cut it - so if we can cash in, we should do that. McCarthy will want to bring in his own players in January and with the loans hopefully returning or being signed permanently - if we can save on Martin's wages - we should.

If you substitute the words 'team' and 'plays' to 'forum' and 'writes' then you could very well be writing about your contribution to this site.

Hereby starts the next set of rumours on here.....the January transfer window!

Can we concentrate on climbing up the bloody Championship first without more unsettling rumours.

Yesterday was one win, there is still much....very much...... to be done to get this club back where it belongs!!!!
