Frimpong Fuels Speculation
Tuesday, 13th Nov 2012 08:55

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has fuelled speculation that he might be a Blues target by revealing that he expects to go out on loan this week. The 20-year-old, who spent time on loan at Wolves during Mick McCarthy’s spell as manager at Molineux, has been the subject of online rumours regarding a move to Town since the new boss took over at Portman Road.

Tweeting last night, the England U16 and U17 international dismissed suggestions that he’ll leave Arsenal permanently in January but says he is on the verge of a temporary switch: “I am positive of going on loan this week which am really excited about and I am fully committed to [Arsenal].”

TWTD understands that a number of Championship clubs are interested in loaning Frimpong, who played five games for Wolves shortly before McCarthy’s sacking. He has said he enjoyed his spell working for the Blues boss. The 5ft 11in tall midfielder was recently linked with a return to Molineux.

Ghana-born Frimpong moved to London as a child and joined Arsenal - where he was a good friend of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - aged nine. He has so far made 10 starts and six sub appearances for the Gunners. One start and one game from the bench in the Capital One Cup have been his only involvement so far this season.

McCarthy may look at Frimpong as an alternative to Richie Wellens, who returned to Leicester after Saturday’s victory over Burnley, with no guarantee that the Foxes will allow him to return after Town have visited the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The deadline for Football League clubs to make ‘emergency’ loan signings is Thursday of next week.

Meanwhile, former Blue Connor Wickham is being tipped for a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday. Last week, reports in the North-East linked the Blues with the England U21 international.

Get him in if it is a season long loan (and not short term). His conmtract expires at the end of the season and Arsenal dont want him - he could be one for the long term

Think this guy could add something extra in bite and energy, but my head says 'nooo, not ANOTHER loan!' undecided...

If he is fit and he 'wants it' then he would be a great signing (even if it is temporary)
It would appear that Wellens is staying at Leicester, so Mick has looked elsewhere, personally out of the two, Frimpong is the better player so I have no problem with him coming here, though I would personally have thought a left midfielder or Centre half would be more of a priority as Central Midfield is somewhere where we atleast have bodies available

It's not as if he is an addition to Wellens, he'll be replacing Wellens so it seems like a good idea.

This boy is mustard. He is tough tackling no nonense chap who we need in midfield.

Far better addition than Wellens. He is fit (not in that way) and would in my opinion be great sitting alongisde Reo Coker and Hyam in Midfield - it will protect our defence.

I for one will dance like Mick if this happens.

Arsenal are allegedly interested in Wilfred Zaha so if Crystal Palace are interested in taking Frimpong on loan, he will go there to facilitate Zaha's move to Arsenal in January

Would welcome him. At the moment loans or platers out of contract are our only options.

He'll probably sign an extension to his Arsenal contract just before going out on loan... Otherwise it'll be a Frimpong swansong.....

Friends with JET, liked working under MM, I say we'd stand a chance of signing him. OTOH, haven't we got enough loans?

PS @daleyitfc, please refrain from commenting if you don't have anything to add. The last few comments I have seen from you have been in double digits into the negative, so I don't think anyone particularly cares for your views. You look a mug as well.

SamWhiteUK, you have the best picture profile ever!! I havent stopped laughing for a good 5 minutes!! Great stuff!!

This boys a good player, remember when he broke through at Arsenal and was surprised when he was loaned to Wolves.

I would agree with some comments on here though in wondering exactly were he would fit into the team.

Looks like MM is looking to get hard tackling, big lads in, making us as hard to beat as possible, its what we have needed for a long time as in this league, theres no place for tippy tappy sttuff on the whole.

In this league you win with a team of hard Mothers!
