Chambers Excited By New Signing Hewitt

Central defender Luke Chambers says he’s excited by summer signing Elliott Hewitt. The Wales U21 right-back underwent hip surgery towards the end of last season while with his former club Macclesfield and finally made his Blues debut as a sub in the 3-0 victory over Millwall before appearing from the bench again in last weekend’s loss at Leeds.

Chambers said: “Everyone is delighted for him getting his first appearance of the season and his debut for the club. He’s a tremendous lad and I think he’s got a great future ahead of him as well.

“It was a fantastic signing for the club — there was a lot of talk of bigger clubs than Ipswich being after him in the summer — but unfortunately he had the injury he had.

“He’s come back stronger, he looks to be one hell of an athlete and he’s an option to throw in there.

“You saw his attacking prowess late in the Millwall game and he’s one to be very positive about."

blueherts added 08:24 - Dec 18 Hats off to PJ on this one !!?? Yes the Back 4 has a good feel about it and when up against the likes of Dyer or Thomas etc ie , Pace he is an option vs Orr .

PJ did make some terrific signings, Chambo, Cresswell & Hewitt. Loach will be around for many years to come too. JHe got ET and he picked up Druary for peanuts too. Plus he gave Smith and Carson some valuable experience and brought Martin back from the wilderness.
In fairness to PJ he helped build some solid foundations for the next few years.

As for Hewitt, MM has said on a few occasions that he wants experienced players helping out the younger lads in defense. I cant see Orr being dropped for Hewitt (barring injury + congested fixtures) in the near future. But im sure he will get a few games from the bench and maybe a few starts in the last quarter of the season when we pull clear of relegation.

RetroBlue added 10:01 - Dec 18 Its great to see Hewitt regaining his fitness to enable him to re start his career. However our problem will be hanging onto him. I'll wager that the biggers clubs will already now be alerted to his fitness and will be watching very closely, his progress over the next 12 months . I will be expecting Town to have to fend off offers for him next season.

Michael11 added 11:25 - Dec 18 @oscarwhiting Completely agree, if our back 4 was Hewitt, Chambers, Smith and Cresswell then the average age must only be 22-23 years old so the future looks really bright if they can all develop an understanding as a unit! If we can just survive this season i have 1000% faith Mick will have us climbing up the table rapidly!

bluesman added 22:20 - Dec 18 Some of you boys are finally waking up. Keane took us apart. PJ put us back together. Too bad he had such a long bad run this season but McCarthy is starting on a different level to where PJ found us when he first arrived here

I totally agree with Tim & Bluesman.
PJ was on a hiding to nothing. He inherited a squad that was almost out of contract and really struggling. I remember the atmosphere was terrible. Remember the Walters/McAuley situations among many others??
PJ brought in Jimmy and lifted the club to safety, a good achievement.
His first full summer he brought in some young talent and filled the remaining gaps with loanees. He helped rebuild the coaching/scouting set up and most importantly banished the shadow of RK from the club. You can see he and the owners had a clear vision with the permanent players they brought in and that was to build for the future!!

In fairness to Marcus Evens, he looked after PJ very well (from what I hear) and appreciated the hard work PJ put in.
