Town Linked With Wellens Move
Sunday, 6th Jan 2013 12:30

Town boss Mick McCarthy wants to bring Leicester midfielder Richie Wellens back to Portman Road, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. The 32-year-old made seven appearances during a month-long spell at Portman Road during October and November.

Asked whether there was a chance of Wellens returning to Town on Thursday, McCarthy said: “Well, I need to get some players in, we’re talking about loads of them.

“We’ve been sat in there with [scouts] Dave Bowman, Taff and Steve McCall and we’re going through a list of names as long as my arm. I won’t talk about individual players who are at other people’s clubs.”

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are again reported to be in the chase for DJ Campbell. Manager Ian Holloway was the 31-year-old’s boss at Blackpool and is said to be at the front of the queue should QPR allow the ex-Blues loanee to move on.

Town boss Mick McCarthy confirmed after yesterday’s game that he is still looking to sign Town’s 10-goal top scorer, despite having added David McGoldrick and Aaron Mclean to his squad this week.

Well if we have 6 stikers , maybe one or two of them will be able to find the net on a regular basis , think the wellens thing may well happen

We definitely need someone in midfield who can create and score goals but is he the man to do this - I have my doubts but liked him when he was here.

I think MM's squad is starting to come together quite nicely , albeit on an initial (prove you're worth a contract) loan basis. But I think next season we are going to be a totally different proposition in this division with a strong/ solid defence , creative MF and fast , pacey wingers / strikers in the team.

Hmm not for me, his effort can't be knocked but injury prone and old is not what we need. Think we've done better since he left too in all honesty. Would only really want him to replace Reo-CockUp!

I would certainly take this lad over Reo-Joker, who has shown himself to be about as effective as a rubber pool cue.

Agree with RetroBlue - was sat in the Aston Villa support yesterday because of the ticketing cock-up, and behind me two Villa supporters were saying "If Ipswich don't get relegated this season, they certainly will next season, with all these loanees." I wanted to say that I thought we would be very competitive next season, so really had to bit my lip!

No more loans, can't the club BUY players like other clubs one or two loans is ok. I'm getting fed watching borrowed players from other clubs week in week out permanent signings please.

Did the part time supporters enjoy there day out yesterday How many will be at Cardiff away and Barnsley at home???

Wellens turns 33 in a couple of months, so I can't get too excited about him. That said he did improve during his loan spell here as he got his fitness up, and I would prefer him to Reo-Coker.

Surely we won't sign anyone else on loan now we are up to the limit?!

Im not against loan players altogether but we dont want and cant plan with a team based on them, we need to have a settled side and create consistancy if we are going anywhere.I think we have the right manager now [fingers crossed he dosnt get hijacked to Republic of Ireland], and hopefully he will have better luck in attracting permenant players.

I assume Wellens would be brought in on an 18 month contract.

i really cant get excited about loan players, its ok if its emergency cover or with a view to purchasing at a later date. getting other teams players fit and putting them in the shop window annoys me somewhat, we are better than that and really need our own team..... Coyb

Wellens isn't the answer, need to try something else, defo get rid of reo joker! Ambrose is a good shout, good for balls into the box as Martin is rubbish at it.

Please dont sign Wellens.
As for DJ, it seems although its a lost cause and we wont be seeing him again. Sorry to be so negative everyone but it looks like the reality.
I have full faith that Mick knows what hes doing though!

Cannot see beyond Coker and JET, Ambrose is a very good call.

Midfield is the area we need to strengthen, but with that we need pace and a player who could score 10 goals a season.....also to create chances for our forwards would help

Ambrose is a player i would love to see come back here. Exactly what we need from midfield.. Energy/goals.

The Wellens link is a possibility as i have heard from a good source that Trotter is on his way to Leicester

To be succesful:

DJ Campbell (QPR)
Richard Stearman (Wolves)
Ritchie Wellens (Leicester)
Billy Sharp (Southampon)

Then sign Kisnorbo, Murphy, Henderson, N'Daw and Orr permanently. done
