Wolves and Brighton Eyeing Scotland
Wednesday, 9th Jan 2013 22:45

Wolves and Brighton and Hove Albion are both interested in signing out-of-favour Blues striker Jason Scotland on loan for the rest of the season.

The 33-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of June, has featured only once as a sub since Mick McCarthy took over at Portman Road and with David McGoldrick, Aaron Mclean and Frank Nouble having signed in recent days, seems destined to leave on loan during this transfer window.

The likes of Nathan Ellington and Ronan Murray would also appear set to move on.

League One Preston North End have also been monitoring the former Trinidad and Tobago international’s situation.

Meanwhile, reports in Norway claim the Blues are amongst a number of Championship clubs to have enquired about 25-year-old frontman Alexander Søderlund, who plays for Haugesund in his home country.

Rosenborg have also been linked with 6ft 1½in tall Søderlund, who has two years left on his contract, and who is unhappy that his current club have priced him out of potential moves.

Having signed three strikers in the last week, and with DJ Campbell still on the radar, the Blues would appear unlikely to pursue any interest in the 11-times-capped Norwegian international.

What a shame. I was hoping Ipswich would get a striker from every EU country.

Word on Søderlund here:
Brilliant player, pacey, strong and knows where the goal is. Id rather have him than Chopra!
Really hope we get him

I still think he can do a job, don't think we have anyone better at the club at holding the ball up and bringing others into play. Suppose with the amount of strikers we have now we wouldn't miss him though!

Would be great for Jason to get a crack at a new club...he shed pounds to get fit enough but didn't get a real chance....Chopra wasted £££s and his career before ITFC which could be over now that younger, hungrier players have been bought for the future team.?

Norway's not in the EU.

Anyone who still thinks Scotland is a viable option at this level for us is looking at this with a bit of nostalgia and frankly he's never been the player he was at Swansea while at Town whether he improved or not

He's needs to drop down a level imho but good luck to him if he can find a Championship club.

Mick seems to be going for pace and power which is something we've lacked for a long time.

Good, not because I don't like him, but he may as well stat match fit whether he staying or going, plus cut the wage bill a bit

Shame as good as anyone at the club at holding the ball up IMO and can defo do a job at this level still. Certainly rather see others leave over him.

In comparison to some of our other signings by the previous two managers (before Mick), Scotland was by no means the worst. First season he was I believe top scorer, but his fitness has been an issue. At 33, it is time for him and the club to move in a different direction.

I think we should definately have a player from Norway just so Phil can use Monty Python quotes as headlines - Norwegian Blue, beutiful plumage!

Why do I get the feeling we are still selling better players than we are getting in ?

Since his arrival, I believe Scotland has consistently looked our best striker. For much of his time here he has operated as a lone striker and has been given very little chance to perform in a front two, and I can't recall him ever playing alongside a bigger target man type partner.
I guess it's a political thing that's dictating that he should leave the club before Chopra, what with the financial commitments to the latter. I can't believe that it's a football decision, just look at the clubs that are allegedly interested in him.

The problem is, with a very large number of strikers in the squad, some have to go and it ain't going to be the 3 newly signed ones or, it appears, Rocky Chopra, although I think he may go before the transfer deadline. So I feel sorry for Jason as I don't think he has been given a fair crack of the whip, but that is football for you!

I think it's about the time for Jason to move on, he's done well for us but now only got about 30 mins per game left in him with new men coming in and hopefully keen to show what they can do it's time for him to move on.
