Clegg and McCarthy Pay Tribute to Scotland
Monday, 21st Jan 2013 11:27

Chief executive Simon Clegg and manager Mick McCarthy have paid tribute to striker Jason Scotland, who, as TWTD reported yesterday, has left the club by mutual consent after his contract was settled.

Clegg told the club site: “I’d like to thank Jason for his services to Ipswich Town Football Club and wish him every success for the future.”

McCarthy added: “Jason is a fantastic guy and has been great around the training ground but we are going younger and he’s been missing out.

“He understands that and wants to go out and play football at the twilight of his career. We wish him well.”

Doncaster and Wolves are leading the chase for the 33-year-old, while Barnsley, Brighton and Preston have also been monitoring his situation.

shame as when he has come on he looks hungry and strong. HIs hold up play is probably the best in the club. I can understand the new young and hungry and totally agree but feel he could have played a part for rest of season. always looks stronger than Chopra in recent times.

Rightly deserving of praise. Never sulked. Proper pro. Thanks Jason.

always rated Scotland, a real handful. He's strong, intelligent and knew the game very well. Popped up with goals too, even though he wasn't playing much! I saw him last season at the leicester defeat at PR and he was a different class, they couldn't handle him and he put us 1-0 up, all the best Scotland!

My thanks to Jason Scotland for the work he put in, always a hard working player I thought.

Sadly another player Ipswich have had to pay to leave, we could not even give him away on a free transfer! This keeps happening over and over again, and just shows what bad signings and contracts have been made by this club under Magilton, Keane and Jewell. Another £750K transfer fee that turned to dust.

Don't understand this one. He is streets ahead of Chopra and as good if not better than anything else we have at present. I am sure he will be a success somewhere in the twilight of his career.

Mark - I agree. I remember in Jan 2008 rubbing my hands when Evans took over, almost expecting a real promotion push, on the basis we would sign the players to give us that extra bit when our side was already on the edge of the play offs. Then Magilton signed Norris, Shumulikovski and Alan Quinn, when we already had Garvan, Roberts and Gavin Williams. Not world-beaters, but the first three were not markedly better. But the transfer policy became much worse under Keane and Jewell. Now we have no creativity and struggle to score goals. And I hate to say it, I personally think DJ Campbell was the most effective striker we've had since Kuqi/Bent. He will be missed badly.

I totally agree with Mark. Whilst the player has done a more than a decent job for us, its this issue of signing players on big transfer fees and they allowing them to leave for free (not even a nominal fee) or paying them to go which just gets to me. It has just happened so many times and is a big factor behind where we find ourselves at this present time.

I just hope and believe that with Mick we now have a manager who will invest for the longer term, get the right players at the right ages in and give us the ability to sell a player for more than we paid, if the circumstances are right - just like other clubs seem to do!

Absolutely miles better than Chopra! More physical, better work rate and an all round better player.

no great loss, should of brought in DJ but MR EVANS lacks real ambition, first example of the owner not backing the manager!!

Scotland has done really well for us with no service. Think what he would of done with some proper service. Here we are again paying someone off to leave, we never sell anyone and get a free, we really are laughable in the transfer market

What a load of crap if they thought so much of him they would have kept him and got rid of the rubbish that is left Thomas and Chopra for instance not someone who ALWAYS gave 100 per cent

Jason Scotland, a true gentleman of football. Jason always put the commitment in, more than can be said about Mr Chopra; hardly busted a gut to get to any of the long balls on Saturday. I shall miss him. Good luck Jason.

Shame - a real asset to have at any Championship Club - would have been great to have kept him until the end of the season.

Thanks Jason - a good pro' - a few players could take an example from him.

h32 agree with you that we could maybe have kept him til the rnd of the season and he might just have helped us in an emergency. but sont think he would have got in the side in any other situation than that as mm has clearly decide to go younger. plus i suspect that this decision was as nuch jasons idea as the clubs as he wants to be playing more regularly which clearly wasnt gonna happen here. ormy. no its not a case of the owner not backing the manager by not signing campbell. i dont think giving a 31 yr old a 4 year contract would have been anything like a good idea, however well hed done while on loan. if like another 30 plus loan player, hed not performed once signing permanently wed be left with a massive bill to pay off his contract. also towards the end of that contract. even if after 2 years, he would have no sell on value.

One of the rare signings that has done reasonably well in the last few years. Always looked strong and up for it with a goal in him.

Wish him all the best for the future.
