Ainsley Joins Chelmsford
Tuesday, 26th Feb 2013 11:58

Right-back Jack Ainsley has joined Blue Square Bet South side Chelmsford City on a month's loan. Earlier this month, left-back Joe Whight also made a loan move to the Clarets.

Chelmsford manager and ex-Town midfielder Glenn Pennyfather says the deal is a “a real coup" for the Essex side, adding: “Jack’s played in the Championship as recently as this season and he’s a quality player without a doubt.

"I’m delighted Ipswich have allowed us to take him on loan so he can get some games.”

The 22-year-old, whose Town contract is up in the summer, recently spent two spells training with Preston North End and was also on trial at Bury.

The Felixstowe-born defender, who won England U17 caps as a striker when in the Town academy, was close to joining Capital One Cup finalists Bradford earlier in the season but the move was halted when the change of manager took place at Portman Road with new boss Mick McCarthy keen to look at all the players at his disposal.

Ainsley made his only league start for the Blues against Huddersfield in August and other than that has made only two sub appearances this season, one in the Capital One Cup.

In total, he has made five starts and three sub appearances for the club where both his father George and brother Stuart - a former Chelmsford player - were previously youth players.

After coming through the ranks of the Town academy, he made his senior debut in the 2009/10 season and has also spent time on loan with Histon and Rushden and Diamonds.

Ainsley, who will be at the Melbourne Stadium until March 25th, looks set to make his debut in tonight's game at Bromley, Whight having made his Clarets bow in the 1-0 home victory over Sutton on Saturday.

Good to see him get some regular football and hope he comes back to play 1st team football. Still young and has done quite well when played for Town previously.

Probably about his level i'm afraid.

He's 22, not 18 and every manager has decided he's not good enough and brought in loans or other signings to play in his position at RB.

Hewitt is rightly in front of him and he's only played L2 for half a season before his time at ITFC.

Best of luck, but the fact not even a conference side was willing to take a punt on him says a lot.

It shows how far below the required standard our 'fringe' players are : mind you, many of the others are not much better.

Think he will be back to haunt Town.. Like Trotter, Like Rhodes.. Match experience is vital. & thats what we don't give our youth players enough of.

Good luck to him, probably not cut out for our level. I thought he played well against Huddersfield but can't forget that performance at Peterborough away!

Tractorman, how do you know a Conference side wasn't willing to take him? Chelmsford are local, and it's a question of getting some games in, and his fitness levels back up. Felt he was hard done by, after being left out after a very good performance against Huddersfield, and not to get a look in after that. Good enough for the likes of Colchester IMO

I don't want to sound negative but I'm not 100% sure if anyone really knows what level ITFC are right now- I'd love like anyone to see our youth flourish; as I have a feeling with FFP on the horizon; youth setups are going to be majorly influential in a clubs success.

If he was going to make it at Town it would have happened by now!

He's 22 and if he cannot force his way into the teams we have been putting out for the last few years then.......!!!
