Carlos a Doubt for Forest Trip
Monday, 4th Mar 2013 14:35

Skipper Carlos Edwards has emerged as a doubt for Tuesday’s trip to Nottingham Forest with a groin injury. The Blues will also be without loan striker David McGoldrick, who is unavailable against his parent club.

Manager Mick McCarthy says Edwards is his only new injury concern: “Carlos is a bit of a doubt, he’s got a sore groin area, his pubis symphysis. It’s just a little bit inflamed, so he’s a doubt for tomorrow.”

Town’s only other injured players are Anthony Wordsworth (cracked vertebrae) and Paul Taylor (foot). The striker, who hopes to be back in action before the end of the season, is currently working at the FA’s new National Football Centre at St George’s Park near Burton.

McCarthy admits it’s disappointing that Saturday’s goalscorer McGoldrick will be missing tomorrow but isn’t overly concerned about it: “It is but that was part of the deal and we knew it was coming.

“There’s no point whinging about it, you can’t play against your parent club. It was agreed at the time. No problem.”

The Blues boss has confirmed that Michael Chopra will continue in one of the striking roles but wouldn’t be drawn on who would replace McGoldrick, with Daryl Murphy, Aaron Mclean and Frank Nouble all options: “If I tell you that, I’d have to kill you.”

For Forest, one-time Blues loanee Danny Collins, who wears the armband at the City Ground, will be assessed having been replaced with blurred vision late on during Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

Another defender, ex-Colchester man Greg Halford, is banned, striker Marcus Tudgay is sidelined with a broken collarbone and centre-halves Daniel Ayala and Sam Hutchinson are back in training but not yet ready to return to action.

Could be a blessing, get JET back in. Carlos has been poor all season imo.

Carlos Edwards is one of few forward-thinking players we have in our squad. He tears up and down that right flank for every last second of every game and although he may not be the most gifted footballer he gives 110% every time and is certainly beneficial to the team. However, JET is one of the other attack minded players we have and on the flip side he is one of the most gifted players in the league let alone the squad unfortunately he epitomises 'hit and miss'. I think this could be a blessing in disguise if JET is on one of his 'hit' days. However do not agree with Carlos being criticised.

C'mon, Carlos has been a good servant for our club. It's not good news. No doubt MM will find a solution, however.

I think Carlos is one of the most natural footballers we have.Hasn't been so attack minded because MM concentrates on defence;but showed up well on Saturday I thought.Bearing in mind his age and the fact he was unwell earlier last week, feel a rest would do him good;so opportunity for JET 2moro?

I really don't see what all the fuss with J E-T is. His ability to take on and beat defenders then put a decent cross in is as bad as Lee Martin's. He won't do half the defensive duties that Carlos does from that position and I think MM knows it. That's why he has come out and said he is more of a front man.

Edwards is only a doubt and not definitely rulled out, but if he doesn't make it, my money is on MM opting for Drury in the role.

On a more footballing note... really wouldn't want to call this one. Both teams off of the back of a good weekend win, Forest home advantage, new manager, but seem to have some injuries. We've got a couple out but nothing major and need the points. Neither team is prolific at scoring at home (forest have only managed 28 so far), defences according to the tables look evenly matched, but our away defence is poor (although take out the silly drubbings we had it's not too bad really). Stats are saying forest leak less goals than we do, but with our inability to really get the goals this season, if we ship an early goal, not sure we'd pull it back. Personally I can see it being a draw 1-1 (us scoring first), but we all know this leauge is crazy, so let hope we do a P'boro vs Milwall. COYB!!!

Carlos Injured. How sad. Well, if it means Jet is back in the frame a reason to be cheerful I think!

Perfect replacement for Carlos would be Elliot Hewitt

according to the local notts press, huddersfield nullified forest when they went to a 5 man midfield, doubt that will have passed mick by, so i think drury will come in as a 3rd central midfielder with jet (or more likely murphy) taking the wide role

I would love us to have a crack at Forest, which would mean selecting JET. However, I suspect that management will be more cautious and look for a no score draw, which would mean a match for Drury.

while carlos hasnt performed as he is capable of on far too many occasions this season since being moved forward, he offers more from the defensive side of the game than jet, so to lose him for this match would be disappointing. and after he had a much better game on sat too. lets just hope whoever takes his place is able to do the job that he would have defensively or we could be badly exposed down that side of the pitch. do wish people like chris makin would either get behind the players and encourage them or just go support some1 else. and before someone says we need all the support we can get, then yes, i agree, but is he and others who are constantly negative supporting the team, or just slagging them off all the time?

Agree with SchancheITFC 100%. Hewitt would provide defensive cover for Stearman, is capable of pushing forward and can deliver a ball.

With Forest being such a force attacking wise at the moment I think McCarthy will opt for Drury , with Hewitt being the outside bet. If Jay plays and goes missing we wont look the solid 4-4-2 we have been and if Majewski is on their left side I fear they would have too much space. The flip side is that Jay could make us more of a threat offensively and put them on the back foot, something that has been missing from our game a bit lately partly because of the need for points. Alternatively Jay could play behind Chops in a 4-4-1-1 type formation with Drury or Hewitt coming onto the right, we would still be hard to break down and might give us something different going forward.
