Brown Here to Compete
Thursday, 28th Mar 2013 17:30

New signing Jason Brown says he's at Portman Road to provide competition for Scott Loach and Arran Lee-Barrett rather than just as cover for Town's other two keepers. Brown, 30, joined the Blues on a contract until the end of the season earlier today.

Speaking in an interview with Ipswich Player, Brown said: “I’ve come to provide competition rather than just cover and I think every footballer has that same mentality.

“We’re fortunate at Ipswich that we’ve got two good keepers in Loachy and Arran and the training session we’ve had today under [keeper-coach] Malcolm [Webster] has been really encouraging.

“I’m just delighted to have been given this opportunity at Ipswich and I’m looking to give it my best shot.

“It’s a great club and I’m delighted to be here. The move came a bit out of the blue but I’m here now and looking forward to the challenge.”

Manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Loach will start against Leeds - one of Brown's former loan clubs - on Saturday with Lee-Barrett on the bench.

Let's hope Brown impresses. He needs to get his career back on track. It's good that he got into the Wales side while unattached, but that was because of an injury to ex-blue Lewis Price. Also when on loan at Cardiff he was kept out by Stephen Bywater, another ex-loanee who didn't impress here. I doubt Brown will become our first choice, as I expect Loach will be number one the rest of this season. It's good to have Brown as backup and possible challenging though.

WhoisJimmyJuan added 20:18 - Mar 28 Was Bywater that bad? Thought he was on loan for a whole season once? Can't remember too much about him. But we need one of our 3 keepers to be massive between now an the end of the season. A flaky keeper could be the worst thing, but one on form could make all the difference. Staying up could end up hinging on a goal here or a save there.............

wkj added 05:14 - Mar 29 as much as I want him to succeed I really REALLY want Loachy to come up trumps - to be fair he never had the most reliable back line I front of him

SamWhiteUK added 11:21 - Mar 29 I can't help but feel that we aren't going to see him. Coming in only until the end of the season, and supposedly behind Loach and ALB, don't think there's much chance of him playing. Bench maybe, but not playing.
