McGoldrick Set to Return to Forest
Thursday, 4th Apr 2013 14:28

Striker David McGoldrick will return to Nottingham Forest after Saturday’s game at Derby with his loan having come to an end. The 25-year-old had been understood to be with the Blues until the end of the season — at which point he is expected to sign a two-year deal — but is in fact only on a 93-day loan.

Manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that the four-goal frontman will be on his way back to the City Ground after the weekend: “The loan deal was for 93 days and we took him until the Derby game.

“He’s a really good player and before anybody asks me why we didn’t sign him, he couldn’t have three registrations for one club in any season.

“He’d been registered with Forest and he’d been registered with Coventry as a window-to-window loan and you can’t have three.

“We would have signed him permanently at the time, but we couldn’t so we had to take him on an emergency loan, so it was either miss him for five games at the start of the loan or five at the end.”

Both club and player have stated that he will sign a two-year permanent deal with the Blues on July 1st, but McCarthy says that’s not yet formalised: “We can’t do anything about that, it’s one of those things.

“We took him on loan for 93 days, there have been talks with him because we agreed to take him and give him a contract, providing we stay in the Championship, and that [Town's divisional status] is not sorted yet.”

The Blues boss says McGoldrick couldn’t sign a pre-contract agreement: “He can’t sign one, that’s illegal. You can’t do that.

“We’ve discussed it with him and he wants to stay, but until he comes out of contract we can’t do anything about it. There’s no point in me trying to hide away from that fact because everybody knows.

“Has he loved it here, has he liked it? Does he want to stay? [If we] stay in the league, I think he does. He’s been loved here by everybody and he’s enjoyed his football, so we’ll see.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy confirmed that midfielder Jay Tabb has had his loan from Reading extended until the end of the season: ”That’s to the end of the season. They’ve got a recall on it, which suits everybody. They’ll only recall him if they want to play him.

“Tabby’s doing great for us, but if they wanted to play him in the Premier League I couldn’t deny him that anyway. But I don’t think that’s going to happen. He’s loving it and he wants to play.”

Whereas Jason Scotland would have been a far better "replacement".

I predict that this was always going to happen. The fact that with McGoldrick in the side we have about 6 players who can play up front maybe suggests Mick was preparing for this to happen?

Team bonding and all that, making sure we had cover for the situation. McGoldrick has been very nifty indeed, and I really hope everyone is telling the truth here.

Time for ITFC to ditch the loan system as of now..football teams cannot be built on such a shoddy system as it'll come back and bite you as has been proved today and with Henderson (Stockdale last year).

-I don't mind the odd 1 or even 2 but when half the matchday squad is made up of another team's players it goes too far.

Next season I want a team full of "our" players.

It was only yesterday Frank Nouble was listing him as a player we have up front along with the other strikers he mentioned. Im guessing he didnt know either

That's a shock. What a mess this club has been in for a number of years.MM please change the ethics of this once proud club. When we look back in history in years to come,i know Town fans will say MM was the best thing to happen to our club at such a crucial time. One more bad managerial appointment would have sent us in free fall.

I can remember Crook from Norwich(think that was his name)being paraded in front of cameras by George Burley;but then going back to his old club when I think they had a change of Manager,so nothing can be taken at face value.
Clearly no agreement in place that will ensure he is with us next season, contrary to what we were led to believe when he signed, which is a pity as Didsy looks a good prospect and could be a blow to our survival hopes, especially as we now have a keeper who reminds me of Matteo Sereni as the ball never seems to stick with Scott Loach and he doesn't seem to be improving yet either.
On another matter still havn't had my season ticket applcn yet,as Retro Blue has.Anybody else still waiting?

Alframacol - Jim Magilton, Jason Cundy, Martjn Reuser all benefited us from being on loan immensely

I'm feeling quite annoyed by this news, dissapointed and short changed, lied to and quite bitter, I never speak like this on these forums, regarding rules of loans, they are what they are but clearly someone here is lying to us as it must have always been the case.

Oh well, I still think with Nouble, Chops, Murphs and A Mac we will be ok...I hope

This is a classic example of the player deal not being done and dusted until the ink is dry on said contract....scum fans also beware!

This makes the fact of the Jason Scotland deal/release, whatever you wish to call it, look even more daft!! So we learn only now that it was a 93 day loan deal and the very person, who in the main is banging in the goals for Barnsley, a relegation rival, could have instead lets say remained here with ITFC to cover this fact. Incredible....

Maybe there is a small possibly that mick has been told by Marcus he can have some money to spend on a good striker therefore there has been a change of heart and mick looking at better options for next season. You never know especially if Evans has been impressed with mick and is getting more confident at spending his money

This is gut wrenching news and someone at Ipswich Town Football Club has fed us with false information. How can the Club make such an error is frankly beyond belief. I always had a nagging doubt about him being here next season but to lose him after Saturday is a bitter pill to swallow. Doubt very much we will see him in an ITFC shirt again after Saturday which is a great shame but money talks as was demonstrated with DJ Campbell. How many more negative eventualaties will we have to cope with this season ?
Murphy and Nouble to step up to the plate now.

suspect it will be Murphy: Chopra now as the main strike force

He will be another big miss, especially with our run in.

My opinion is the club wasn't aware of the 2 loans to any club in a season rule. Some pen pusher at the FA has said (adapt snotty accent) "I'm sorry but he will have to return"

Hadn't received mine either so rang ticket office who informed me that if you payed by direct debit this season it was renewed automatically. A bit presumptuous I think, especially considering this little bombshell. Somebody at the club needs to come out & tell it how it is before the rumour mongers light the touch paper for a literary riot on here.

That is about as bad as it gets!

He is the one player we have who has true quality and class.

It's like car crash pr!

Normally I'm patient with these such things but I want someones head of a stick for this.
The only way to ease my anguish is a public flogging of a member of the pr dept.

I think brendenward35 may have a point or is it just wishful thinking on my part. All parties would have known about a limited loan spell when pen goes to paper. I believe he's had second thoughts about staying and his parent club has had seconds thoughts about letting him go.

....."Be part of it"

Yer right !

Be part of WHAT exactly ?

Town fans sold down the river , AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN !!

What a lot of fuss about nothing, he hasn't exactly set the world alight. Even though he scored 4 goals one of the other strikers might have scored more if he wasn't there. At least Nouble is our player even if he is another striker who couldn't score in a brothel !

At least we have always got Scotland to fall back on as a replacement after McGoldrick has left.

Very disappointed by this news. As many others have already mentioned on this thread, the club always said it was for rest of season until suddenly, today it changes.
Either the club have lied to us throughout or more worryingly and more likely, they got didn't know the rules regarding loans.
If its the latter, then lets hope they have double checked the rules regarding all our loanees as a points deduction for fielding an illegible player could prove terminal in our relegation battle.
The whole thing just leaves a bad taste and smacks of a very unprofessionally run club.
Time for Chopra, Murphy and Noodle to stand up and be counted
