McGoldrick Set to Return to Forest
Thursday, 4th Apr 2013 14:28

Striker David McGoldrick will return to Nottingham Forest after Saturday’s game at Derby with his loan having come to an end. The 25-year-old had been understood to be with the Blues until the end of the season — at which point he is expected to sign a two-year deal — but is in fact only on a 93-day loan.

Manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that the four-goal frontman will be on his way back to the City Ground after the weekend: “The loan deal was for 93 days and we took him until the Derby game.

“He’s a really good player and before anybody asks me why we didn’t sign him, he couldn’t have three registrations for one club in any season.

“He’d been registered with Forest and he’d been registered with Coventry as a window-to-window loan and you can’t have three.

“We would have signed him permanently at the time, but we couldn’t so we had to take him on an emergency loan, so it was either miss him for five games at the start of the loan or five at the end.”

Both club and player have stated that he will sign a two-year permanent deal with the Blues on July 1st, but McCarthy says that’s not yet formalised: “We can’t do anything about that, it’s one of those things.

“We took him on loan for 93 days, there have been talks with him because we agreed to take him and give him a contract, providing we stay in the Championship, and that [Town's divisional status] is not sorted yet.”

The Blues boss says McGoldrick couldn’t sign a pre-contract agreement: “He can’t sign one, that’s illegal. You can’t do that.

“We’ve discussed it with him and he wants to stay, but until he comes out of contract we can’t do anything about it. There’s no point in me trying to hide away from that fact because everybody knows.

“Has he loved it here, has he liked it? Does he want to stay? [If we] stay in the league, I think he does. He’s been loved here by everybody and he’s enjoyed his football, so we’ll see.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy confirmed that midfielder Jay Tabb has had his loan from Reading extended until the end of the season: ”That’s to the end of the season. They’ve got a recall on it, which suits everybody. They’ll only recall him if they want to play him.

“Tabby’s doing great for us, but if they wanted to play him in the Premier League I couldn’t deny him that anyway. But I don’t think that’s going to happen. He’s loving it and he wants to play.”

Apart from the fact that coming to Portman Road to watch average ( at best) football and being lied to time and time again ,makes my decision not to renew my season ticket a good one and not regretted for one minute.I am not one for living in the pass, but the days when our team along with many others could win the likes of the UEFA cup with just 14 players which none of them were loanees said a lot for the state of football today.
Desperate times!!!!

Oh well, that's a shame, but at least it makes the striker selection easier. I can see Nouble, JET and Chops getting one each, which at our current scoring (and conceding) rate, will be 9 points. Job done!!

I still think Nouble, Chopra, Murphy and Mclean is still more than enough fire power to get goals in this league but still hope McGoldrick returns permanently!

This has damaged my Trust in the club. We were told officially that he had signed on loan until the end of the season, so how can news suddenly be sprung on fans that it was only ever a 3 month loan?! McCarthy previously said he would be signing in the summer, now he may sign if we stay up, if agree terms... He'll go back to Forest and I doubt he'll see him play for Ipswich again. A big disappointment, as he was really starting to come good.

Can TWTD quiz Ian Milne or Jonathan Symonds about this? How can fans be given such misinformation?

I'm sure Mick will return some much needed common sense and sanity to our beloved Ipswich Town next season.

I don't think this was a deliberate misdirection; just a c**k up somewhere unbeknownst to Mick. that being said with a team of business men directing the club; you can help but think someone broke some massive business rules and didn't read the small print.

same old drivel by posters on here/ at least by those who only ever post when they can write something negative. gazmangaz, at least you can put perspective on it. yes, hes played well for us, but hes scored 4 goals not 14 or more so we hardly losing a prolific scorer. of course, this does mean that some1 else will have to step up and put the ball in the back of the net. we have enought strikers here for at least one of them to hopefully do so. as for those again using this to go on about us releasing scotland. 1. he wanted to go in order to get regular 1st team football which he wouldnt have got here. 2. does anyone really think that if hed been here hed suddenly have got into the side after months out of the equation? and before ne1 says but hes scored 7 goals for barnsley? yes, he has, because hes playing, and playing in a team that suits his style. whereas here, for 1 he wouldnt have been playing, and at time he was here we simply werent creating chances so he would probably not have scored even if he had got a chance to play. anyway, lets just for once everyone, get behind the team and cheer them to safety this season. and for those doubting dmc gonna return, well, hes already stated himself that hes agreed a 2 year deal. while they may not be able to do anything officially, im sure that something has been sorted or why else wpould the player have said nething. would only make himself look stupid.

I agree with wjk and am inclined to the cock-up theory. Mick is as straight as they come and wouldn't pull the wool over out eyes.

As long as they team keep their focus, and we get one last decent game out of McGoldrick at Derby. We have to make the best of this.

We can go on about this bad news as much as we want but the fact of the matter is that he will be gone after Saturday so let's get behind the remaining strikers - Nouble and JET worth a try? - and hope that our defence remains as solid as it has been for the last several games.

MM says a pre-contract agreement would have been illegal (and ok was never going to happen before now if the deal was dependent on us being assured of survival)but I thought those types of deals were now legal e.g. Zaha from Palace to Man Utd?
I am confused (as well as gutted at the news).

Not only is this disappointing, but very bad news. He has been our best striker - a good all round player. This is a blow to our survival hopes.

I wonder if MM was actually made aware of this at the time - because he was fairly definite that the it was until the end of the season with a deal agreed? Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't return. Shame.

i am not sure what postive's we have , seems to me our strikers we have left and going on recent form ,couldn't hit a cows backside with banjo.

This club gets worse and worse. Someone obviously knew about this and decided to hold it back from the fans. Wouldn't totally surprise me if McGoldrick wasn't even aware of this.

Its these sort of action by the club which has persuaded me after 15 years to not bother with a season ticket next season. We have no chance of promotion under the guidance of this lot. Expect to see our best players leave and more rubbish turn up.

Lets hope for six 0-0 draws!

Can someone clarify. Is this a mistake made by TWTD editors misunderstanding the press release by ITFC, or was the info from ITFC misleading?

If the latter, was this a genuine mistake by the ITFC press office or were they told what to put out? If a genuine mistake, why wasn't a correction issued?

Or is this one monumental cock-up by the powers that be, i.e. thinking they were getting him for the season, then signing the deal without reading the small print?

Was it Clegg's mistake which is why he finally walked?

I don't suppose we will ever know.

PS Phil/Gav Thanks for the spell check innovation for the site. Wiv enny luk the speling on thys sight will get better.

Sebastien I'm with you on this the lies are an insult to us supporters! It would appear given MM's statement today re: we either missed him for 5 games in Jan or 5 at the end, that this was known at the time (or he's telling porkies about it now). The club's statement on the day of his signing left no ambiguity and clearly said he was here until May with a view to a permanent deal (as posted earlier in this thread).
I'm really getting sick and tired of the disinformation and confusion that is coming out of ITFC, we as supporters should have a full explanation as to why we were misinformed in Jan, at the very least we deserve that.
