McCarthy Confirms Player Exits
Tuesday, 7th May 2013 17:54

Boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed the exits of midfielders Lee Martin and Andy Drury and keeper Arran Lee-Barrett and that striker Michael Chopra and midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas have been made available for transfer.

McCarthy told the club site: “Lee, Andy and Arran are all out of contract and have been released. I want to look at other options but we wish them every success for the future.

“I have also spoken to Michael Chopra and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and told them that I don’t see them as being part of my plans going forward and they are free to look for another club.”

Town have also confirmed that keeper Jason Brown, who joined on a short-term contract in March, will not be extending his time at Portman Road.

Glad to see MM getting rid of the dead wood, onward and upward

One thing is sure Mick wont tolerate players who think there bigger than the club, cant see to many wanting to buy troublemaker Chopra

As expected. Looking forward to some exciting signings. Strong rumours in Ireland that Alan Judge is a done deal. Hope so.

Shame Lee couldn't stay. He was class for a time, but didn't seem to be doing it of late, same with JET. best of luck to them both and thanks
ALB was a great squad player too and deserves to be a first choice somewhere. Thanks for your services too.
Drury always worked hard and deserves to do well wherever he goes, so thanks too
Cheers Chopra you scored some vital goals in your time and created some 'entertainment' to go along with it.

Shame for ALB,always thought he was decent back-up..glad to see the back of Martin tbh, hasn't brought much here in 4 years apart from lots of cards.

Looking forward to some good signings in the coming weeks.

Well well...Martin going as well. Since Martin arrived under Keane in the summer of 2009 I had great hopes for him but unfortunately I've been underwhelmed, his dead ball skills, crossing and goal scoring have just not been up to the standard required, he largely was recruited by us in the first place to be creative and unnerve defences which he seldom did although not short on effort.
Thanks for the effort Lee but unfortunately you have been found wanting and not without a few quid in your pocket. Now for someone who can be creative!
Well done Mick yet another correct decision.

Funny, isn't it. Chopra and JET have been told they can look for other clubs. JET says he is looking for a new adventure, Chopra hits Twitter to insist he doesn't have to go if he doesn't want to. Says a lot about both players, I would say.

Remember Hyam was told he could leave, yet look at him now. Still hope for JET in my opinion. Until he has gone he still has a chance!

I will miss Drury. He comes accross as a decent pro but needed more games. I think he can still do a job in the Championship though.

ALB asside the rest dont seem to have the appetite For the demands of the championship. We now need some more characters in the Tommy Smith, Luke Chambers mould. For the first time in years I have confidence in our Manager to get in the right players and more importantly to get the most out of them.

You gave your all and good luck wherever you end up!

Ferguson did a good con job on RK when he got £2.6 mil for Martin as he could see he would not cut the mustard in any high level football ! He is league 1 at best with his discipline being a hindrance to anything higher . We will benefit from a replacement with the ability to pass and cross .

agree wholeheartedly superfranz, JET seems a decent lad and ill be sad to see him go. Chopra however, just cant help but be an idiot, for me he is the opitomy of the modern day idiot footballer.

I support the release of these three players. they are all good players to have at your disposal but not at the wages theyre all probably on. JET is the only one i'd be sad to see go, ultimately i get the feeling he's never quite gonna make it but its not hard to see why he's so popular

i think martin has been handled perfectly, if he was committed hed take the contract, if he doesn't take the contract then he's probably not that committed so thanks but no thanks

.... feel somewhat sorry for ALB and Drury - both very decent squad members in my opinion, and have never let anyone down with their performances.

As for Martin - no nearer delivering the final product, than when he arrived at the Club - great work rate but that's about it - had hoped that good coaching could provide the missing 'bit' to his game.
For whatever reason it just hasn't happened.

Martin will fit in well, where, and at whatever level, work rate is the essential ingredient.

Thanks in particular to ALB I grew up with him playing for Whitton sports and he is Ipswich through and through. Never moaned even though has been treated harshly at times. Deserves to be number 1 elsewhere good luck mate! Drury has been a solid squad player and at a bargain fee. I feel let down by Lee Martin he just never quite does it. For all his hard work he is supposed to be an attacking winger which means setting up goals, beating his marker and scoring goals, he does none of these. Alan Judge for me all day long

Sad to see ALB and Drury go, but I think they aren't quite good enough for squad players if we wish to push for play-offs.. Not too bothered about Martin, never rated him too much. I still wish JET would convince MM to keep him during pre-season. As for Chops, we would be so much better off never having signed him at all.

I thought we had offered a reduced terms contract to Martin, and if we did I am glad this was quickly resolved rather than dragging on weeks. I can see anyone paying much for him, as although his work rate is good he has no end product and is always a disciplinary risk. The stats tell the story: in 4 years at Ipswich he scored only 6 goals and had 3 red cards.

"can't see anyone paying much for him", I meant.

Once again few can disagree with MM's decisions;but this means the club have lost 13 players including the loanees and
Joe Whight and Jack Ainsley.
Hope we can sign Jay Tabb and Richard Stearman especially as well as David Mcgoldrick;but nothing is certain until contracts are registered(is it still at Lytham?)
It therefor looks as though ITFC are in for another close season of upheaval;but I am hoping that Mick can get things sorted much earlier than his predecessor did.

Mark

They do not have to pay for him as he is out of contract . He will be lucky to be offered a contract at anything like the terms he had with us !

It's a bit disappointing that we won't have Judge and Drury - a puntastic combo that will never happen.

Witrh ALB and Brown going - the goalkeeping situation will be an interesting one to look out for

Thought Drury worth keeping but suspect that as a professional he wants to play rather than take the money and run. MK Dons desperate for a player like him imo and he'll do great in Div 1. I like ALB but we need better. As for the others get rid and bring in better replacements. Exciting times (I hope!)
