Town in Hunt for Winger
Saturday, 18th May 2013 21:23

Town are battling an unnamed Bundesliga side for the signature of free agent former Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt, according to reports in Ireland. TWTD revealed that Hunt was on Blues boss Mick McCarthy’s wish-list back in November.

McCarthy took the Irish international to Molineux from Hull City for £3 million in August 2010 and the 31-year-old was a regular in his side for the next two seasons.

The ex-Crystal Palace, Brentford and Reading man missed much of the 2012/13 season due to calf and hernia problems before returning to action in March but couldn’t prevent his club from plummeting into League One.

Hunt is understood to be keen on a reunion with McCarthy, however, the Blues may not be able to match the terms on offer elsewhere with the Laois-born winger’s next contract likely to be the final big payday of his career.

Wolves told Hunt and two more of McCarthy’s signings, striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake — who is currently sidelined with a broken leg and an ankle ligament injury - and centre-half Christophe Berra, that they would not be offered new contracts earlier in the week.

Another of McCarthy’s former Wolves players, 32-year-old midfielder Seyi Olofinjana, was released by Hull on Thursday. The Nigerian impressed while on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in the final two months of the season.

Meanwhile, we understand that loanee striker Daryl Murphy is still to learn whether the Blues will offer him permanent terms. The 30-year-old’s Celtic contract is up at the end of June.

Too old at 31 get a life you lot!! If he's fit and affordable then his experience will be invaluable otherwise I'm sure MM will be looking elsewhere. There are some players at Bradford that look interesting ESP Wells so looking forward to MM getting his squad sorted sooner rather than later as that's where PJ went wrong.

Freezer82 - I like Forrester but I'm not sure he's ready for the championship just yet. Definitely worth signing though. I keep saying it but if we're looking at Brentford, Adam Forshaw is the one!

Keanish- cresswell adjusted quickly from league 1, Hewitt looks a player with potential that will improve with games over time. Get forrester in and have him adjust over next year or so, agree maybe not a 90 min player but impact sub or play for 1st 60mins, defiantly one for future. Rather him than Hunt. And be better than Martin
Forshaw would be a good addition, good upbringing at Everton and at 21, again lots more to come. Another ex- Everton youngster I'd go for wold be Jose Baxter, quality player with bags of potential.

Could give us the bit of quality we've lacked in recent years. Similar to what Andy Reid has done for Forest, a slow winger but with the extra quality to make up for the lack of pace. Although I think that Reid is better than Hunt.

I used to rate Hunt as a player, but he's been injured for the best part of 2 years - seems like he could be Jimmy Bullard #2 to me....

Olofinjana is a player I've really been impressed with before, but again he's old and perhaps would want big wages - he would give us that physical prescence in midfield which we'll probably lose with N'Daw
