Blues and Canaries in Pre-Season Friendly Talks
Blues and Canaries in Pre-Season Friendly Talks
Tuesday, 28th May 2013 15:03

TWTD understands that Town and Norwich City are in advanced talks regarding a friendly at Carrow Road during pre-season. Rumours regarding a friendly between the two clubs have been circulating for a number of weeks.

The proposed game, which is yet to be confirmed by either club, looks set to be arranged for late July after the Canaries have returned from their pre-season trip to the USA.

In recent years East Anglian derbies have usually been played on Sundays with lunchtime kick-offs and, if the match is confirmed, the same is likely to be the case this time around with Sunday 28th July appearing the most likely date for the game to take place.

A friendly between the Blues and the Canaries was at one time a regular feature of the clubs’ pre-season preparations with trophies such as the Wilhire Cup and the Hospital Cup the prize for the winners.

Meanwhile, reported Town target Murray Davidson is set to join Rangers following his St Johnstone exit, according to the Scottish media.

Sounds interesting. Wouldn't this cause trouble between the two sets of supporters or will it be behind closed doors?

Don't like this.

Reducing a game that produces one of the most intense and heated atmospheres for both supporters to a friendly?

Only way it won't be a disappointment is if it is bigged up and it actually gets a near full stadium etc. but really its these seasons without this fixture that build up anticipation and desire for the next time we can meet and we can't pick and choose when we want to play them.

Is this a good idea for a warm-up game, when players are building up match fitness ?

I can see the logic in that we need to play decent opposition and locally they are the best team we can play, I guess the next closest prem team would be West Ham. I guess this is a problem of not wanting to travel too much pre season and not having much local opposition of reasonable level.

I would love to see this...... although friendly may seem a bit far off. more like a heated pre-season warm up match!

Not sure whether I like the idea just because I wouldn't like to start the season on the wrong foot but hey ho I guess being underdogs away we haven't anything to lose. I can't believe people are contemplating it being a sell out?? It will be and it will be a full blooded affair as well so will be exciting to watch. Also there will be zero crowd trouble/concerns.

Can't see it happening, will just be risking injury to players. Nightmare for police too. Can see it kicking off easily

Great decision !

1) A pre-season friendly played at the same intensity as a league game

2) Extra revenue

"zero crowd trouble/concerns" Are you sure?! This game would require the same level of policing as a normal league fixture, does'nt matter if it's sunday lunchtime or midnight on halloween. Light the blue touchpaper & stand well back!

Hmmm i don't think i like this. Makes me feel like Norwich are seeing us as a lower league team like Colchester. Takes the rivalry away in my opinion.

I wasn't meaning with regards to police levels. I am sure there will be the same level of plolicing but the revenue would more than cover that. I was referring to trouble. When it's an old farm derby league match it always passes by with no trouble so this would be the same.

Mixed feelings about this, but would be nice to do em before they start their fixtures. I would however prefer to play West Ham as I rate them a better challenge for our lads.

That does say 'set to join Rangers' doesn't it? that does translate to dropping down two flights of football to play at nowhere grounds in a nowhere league in front of no fans for at least another 2 years doesn't it!?

HAHAHA - That's even funnier than the judge decision!!

I don't like the idea, as Norwich have the multi-million pounds the Premier League offers plus they are at home, so realistically we would be looking at a defeat there. I'd prefer us to sort the side out first, then get promoted and play them (or hopefully miss them if they come down!).

Don't like or want it, it's a pointless game why would we want to end pre season with a defeat against our deadly rivals. You just know the two headed idiots will treat it as there cup final and use the game to gloat.

PLEASE PLEASE NO!!!!!!!
