Chopra Still Planning to Stay at Town Monday, 3rd Jun 2013 09:27 Striker Michael Chopra has again said he could decide to stay at Town for the remaining year of his contract, despite manager Mick McCarthy making him available for transfer at the end of the season.
Chopra, whose relationship with supporters has been less than harmonious in the wake of his well-documented off-field issues and Twitter controversies, tweeted: “Might stay at Ipswich as I know how much the Ipswich fans love me keep telling people I don't need to leave.”
The 29-year-old was told he could find another club along with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas at the end of the campaign having failed to secure a regular place in the side but quickly indicated that he might choose to remain at Portman Road: “Just coz I'm on the transfer list does not mean I have to leave. I have one year left on my contract, it’s down to the player if he wants to go or not.”
While Fulham are targeting Emmanuel-Thomas, so far there has been little speculation regarding clubs coming in for Chopra, although a number of sides — including now-promoted Hull City — showed interest in signing him on loan in January.
One report this weekend claimed Chopra could move on a free transfer, a not unlikely scenario as McCarthy looks to off-load his wage - the striker is understood to be one of the club's top earners - in order to add to his summer transfer budget.

If he does stay then he owes us big time or Mick ought to let him rot in the reserves or youth team.

When you read what he's said it's not actually that bad, but it's just more confrontation which reflects badly on the club and makes him even less popular with fans. Does he enjoy it? So frustrating because I'm one of the stupid (probably) people that still want him to stay. He's a good player, but if he's not in the team and scoring, 18 thousand pounds a week is a lot of money. And of course Twitter exacerbates things.

erm...... a wolf in a wolf's clothing should not be too difficult to identify as a wolf. Whoever was tasked with 'due diligence' on this player before we signed him failed spectacularly. Not as if we did not know what we were taking on when he was signed but perhaps we were prepared to put up with the off pitch antics as long as he performed on the pitch. Should we really be too surprised when things don't go as well as we had wished they would? By the way keep him away from the reserves, under 21s, youth team etc as it would be akin to putting said wolf in a sheep pen.

Chopra cannot be that stupid. Yes he can take his salary for the next year but what does he do after that? if he doesn't play somewhere and show he can still perform no-one will pay him at all. The real question is "can he still perform?" If he can, he can do it for us, on loan or transferred out, it matters little. But if he can't or thinks he can't then he can only take what he can get - his final years salary. So what he does next will tell everyone what they need to know. No performance - no job. I doubt he has the talent to earn much outside football. I'm just sad that Keane thought he was the answer to our needs - when it comes to gross incompetence you don't have to look too far. I'm sure we wasted a pot of money there.

IF Micheal Chopra stayed, came off bench and netted a hat-trick in our first game away at Yeovil Town... then would we change our views a tadge..

Seems like he's prepared to sit out his contract and take the money. I hope he does something before long that allows ITFC to sack him, the club has bent over backwards to help the idiot. Having read various articles about him, ie his wedding, his gambling etc, the idiot is a loose cannon and we need to get him out but I can't see any club that would take him. Please Chopra do something really bad.

A bit late on the thread but here's my take on it. I don't care what he does in his spare time, I just want him to score goals and try hard on the pitch for Ipswich. He is in his last year at Ipswich so therefor will be either busting a gut for a new contract or trying to impress another club to actually want him ! If football is changing with financial fair play then footballers contracts should change also. If there is evidence of gross misconduct then sack him and escort him of the premises or if he isn't up to his job then put him on a notice to improve and see if there is a change !

...... he could still do the business - let's hope if no one shows interest in signing him, he at last gets his head sorted, and proves himself. I guess it's hope well above hope though - but if it happens I'm sure a few goals would soon reverse a few opinions !!
