JET Linked With Swap Deal for Bristol City Winger
Friday, 28th Jun 2013 14:18

Town have been linked with a swap deal which would see Bristol City’s Paul Anderson join the Blues with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas moving in the opposite direction. Emmanuel-Thomas, 22, was told he could find another club at the end of the season despite having another year remaining on his contract.

According to Bristol-based sources, talks between the clubs have already taken place.

Winger Anderson, 24, started his career as a youth player with West Brom, before moving on to Hull City and then Liverpool in November 2005.

Anderson spent time on loan at Swansea and Nottingham Forest — when he was linked with a move to the Blues - while with the Reds, before making the switch to the City Ground permanent in the summer of 2009 for £250,000.

The 5ft 9in tall former England U19 international moved on to Bristol City last summer, signing a two-year deal. He made 19 starts and 11 sub appearances for the Robins during their 2012/13 relegation campaign, scoring three goals.

Emmanuel-Thomas, who played for Bristol City boss Sean O’Driscoll during a loan spell at his former club Doncaster Rovers, is understood to have been interesting Fulham, who watched him on a number of occasions last season.

The former Arsenal man's wages could potentially prove to be a sticking point with the midfielder or striker believed to be amongst the Blues' higher paid players and the Robins likely to be looking to reduce costs after their drop into League One.

This wont happen if it was ever on the cards. WHY would jet move down when he has a year left here?

If we could get a player who is just as useful on half the wage, it would be a good swap to free up some funds elsewhere.

I'm with those who don't think Jet will move down. He can stay with us for a further year and pick up a higher salary and then I still think he would be able to secure a move to a league 1 club. Why take the drop in pay a year early?

....... can't see the so called 'JET' wanting to go to Bristol City - if he thinks he should be plying his trade in the Premiership !!

....... yet more nonsense - I guess. Move on again.

I've always been impressed when I've seen Anderson play, especially against us. i didn't realise he was at City and it's a bit of a wonder how he ended up there, so maybe his career has gone off track.

I can't see JET dropping down to League One. I'd rather Fulham bought him - we'll take what we can get - and we pick up Anderson for a small fee (smaller than what Fulham give us obviously).

.... all these experts saying play him here, there and everywhere - he needs to get himself sorted and knuckle down - in doing that he could be highly successful playing almost anywhere, because he has talent for sure, but that's not everything - AS MM WILL HAVE SUSSED - hence making him available !!

JET is a match winner where as Anderson is more consistent. On his day jet a much more capable player in my opinion. Be disappointed if this does happen

I simply can not see this being true. How can a division one club afford JET's wages? If they can - then it really does make a mockery of Marcus Evans. We need to be more competitive. We have been out bid by Yeovil for Joel Ward (make no mistake - footballers go for the money). MM is an excellent manager and has been great for us so far - but would have liked to have seen some new blood in by now - only Skuse so far - as the others were with us last season.

I think this may well be the wake up call that JET needs, we all know he has talent, the trouble is we only see it now and again, only eleven players on the pitch and the TEAM cannot carry him for 90% of the time, i hope it goes through, a shame but he is an expensive luxury we can,t afford to keep!

I dont think we have been "out bid" by Yeovil. We have CHOSEN not to break a self imposed wage structure in light of the FFP rules. Now many Clubs will make the decision to ignore these FFP rules. But they do so at their peril...those that fail to comply , as far as Im aware will face sanctions.

The days of fat, long contracts for players and absurd agents fees are soon, thankfully to be a thing of the past.

Phil, sorry mate but I don't believe there is nothing in this story. JET will never drop down to League One.

Secondly, Yeovil outbid us for Grant because they viewed him as a star player/ marquee signing & MM most likely didn't. Therefore MM offered him what he thought he was worth. We already have 'star' players like Chopra & JET on the biggest salaries so not everyone will get offered silly money. Yeovils wage bill is no doubt nothing like ours, so they might have room to sign a 'star' player.

Thomas is a lot better than Anderson, think we should look elsewhere.. This will be a joke of a swap if it happens, and I wont be smiling...

he coukld be on similar wages as jet. Bristol went through a phase of spending big not long ago so maybe he is on a good wage

jas0999 - all good points that 'many' have a tendency to ignore - very conveniently.

There are times when I feel very concerned that the current ambition of ITFC - matches the ambition and expectancy of an all too high percentage of the Support.

Hence where we have been for 12 years - maybe (sadly) people like you and I can expect no more.

Keep jet is he really that bad? I know he's lazy at times but he has potential.
Give him a go till Jan if he hasn't performed then hopefully flog him in Jan.
Putting him on the transfer list might buck his ideas up & chopra.
They both can't come bad players over night, I know they don't wear their heart on the sleeves but this could be an eye opener for them both.
Surely Mick can sort em out & them playing well again. Still see them as good additions to the squad at least!!

h32 i can sypathise with some points youhave made but we have signed up 4 decent players already and have taylorback so should have a squad good enough to compete.

if you look at the form mick got from the current group it would suggest we have a chance this year
we will need a bit of luck along the way but i think this group are a good ifnot better than previous group that have cost millions to assemble
