Grant Confirms Town Talks
Friday, 28th Jun 2013 16:11

Winger Joel Grant, who earlier this week agreed to join Yeovil Town on a free transfer with his contract at Wycombe up at the end of this month, has confirmed that he held talks with the Blues before opting to move to the Glovers.

Grant, 25, told the Western Gazette that he recently spoke to Town boss Mick McCarthy, TWTD having reported the Blues' interest a fortnight ago: “There’s been bit of interest, so I’ve heard from my agent. I was lucky enough to meet Mick McCarthy and he’s an excellent manager.

“But at the end of the day Yeovil have shown a keen interest right from the beginning of the close season and it’s one that I have decided to take them up on.

“I know it’s going to be tough for everyone but we will all give it a good go and that is something I want to be a part of — trying to keep Yeovil in the Championship.

“It was the work ethic of the team that attracted me, as well as the fact they earned promotion last season and the manager [Gary Johnson].

“Speaking to him he reminded me of Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe Wanderers because he’s strong on work ethic and it’s something that I have improved in my game in recent years.”

Elsewhere, former Blues midfielder Ian Westlake has agreed to join Ryman League Needham Market for the season ahead. The 29-year-old left his previous club, the Montreal Impact in the MLS, in February 2012.

I wouldn't say silly, but it sounds to me like he just felt more suited to Yeovil than us. That might be finding a certain rapport with the manager, finding something you like about the area or any number of other factors. Sometimes it doesn't matter who you are or what you offer - if the player doesn't think you're a fit, there's little you can do.

Bit of a shame knowing that we were in for him, but nothing to worry about. Still plenty of the window left and we have a manager who can still find the right targets.

And MM does not have a " WORK ETHIC ? "

He knows he's at Yeovil just to try to keep them in the division, when MM must have told him our plans to challenge for promotion at the other end of the table. Apart from wages, I can't understand why any talented ambitious player should choose them over us just because "they showed interest in me from the start of close season". That means nothing!

what grant probably failed to mention was that we were being realistic with wages and yeovil probably offered more. However we must of been a better prospect surely, oh well funny old world.

Grant is not at all silly in moving to Yeovil.. think we are still a little naive in the transfer circus.. this will give us league mediocrity again if so..

he came down here and decided he didn't really like the training facilities and thought the turnstiles could use a lick of paint

It will be three things that made up the boy's mind: Money, money and money. And which of us would not do the same?

Disappointing. I can only hope that Yeovil are not offering better terms than us! But, overall if he doesn't want to join us, then we move on!

Fair play to him, same league as us and probably more game time. All the people moaning, where does he say anywhere in that interview that McCarthy actually offered a contract to him? He only said he met him.
